WOW. GREAT SHAPE. BEAUTIFUL. Have a Ford Fanatic friend in Sarasota right off of 41. Use to drive some classics around as well. Lincolns and the like. Love to see your car in person someday.....
Thank you for the kind comments. The interior was already redone when I bought the car in January of 2010. I was told the two-tone blue interior was correct by a Mercury Club official.
Did you have the color of the upholstery changed? Mine was white on top, with blue inserts. If my memory is right. You have a beautiful car there. But you already know that.
Mine was restored some time ago - I would estimate that to get a complete, frame off job of similar quality to mine, the chrome all triple plated, new glass, new interior, new everything, etc,,at today's labor rates would run at least $90,000.
I am very happy that my car brings back sentimental and happy thoughts. lf you're ever going to be in the Sarasota, FL area, I'd love to take you for a cruise in it.
I keep coming back to gaze at this car. Wish I had the wherewithal to purchase it. Probably the prettiest car I've ever seen. I'm serious. It also has sentimental value for me; my dad had one just like it when I was younger. Lots of great memories associated with this beauty.
Want to trade for a 55 chevy belair 2 door hard top total off the frame resto, all stock V 8, 265 with a powergulde, this car is dead stock with under 600 miles ???
My dad had one like this from '58 to '62. We loved that car. It was so sleek and powerful in its day. He's been dead for decades, but when I see one of these, I think of him picking me up from school or some such.
@tennsurfr I agree, the hardtop does actually look better than the convert.
Me? I'd be happy with about any body style of '56 Merc. A wagon would be cool just because there are so very few nice old wagons left. I guess my most desired model would be a "Medalist" 2-door coupe equipped with the M260 option. This would be a real sleeper and there definitely wouldn't be any others like it at the local car show!
We had the same model & body style, only ours was white over red. We felt like royalty riding around in that thing! Looks like you've got the 225 HP engine, judging by the blue valve covers. Hope I can find a nice '56 Mercury one of these days.
Many thanks. I bought it already restored. It runs like s Swiss watch. No rattles (which they had when they were new back in 1956!) Frame off, even all the wiring under the dash is NEW. Best running 50's car of any brand I've ever bought (since the 50s of course !)
Absolutely stunning! Love the 2 tone scheme on '56 Mercs, and that color combo is breathtaking! Congrats!

I have a 56' Mercury station wagon. It's the Custom model. I was just curious what it ran you to restore your car! If you don't mind telling me! :)

This is one car that, to me, looks better in a hardtop than a convertible. (Not many do).
If you want one, there are many for sale.
But do, your homework first. You can buy 'em under $20K, and you can pay over $60K. How nice a one do you want??

@1956MercM260: Oops, duh--coupes ARE 2-doors! I was thinking of the non-hardtop coupe, with the fixed pillar.
