You can play arpeggios; that is the technique associated with the three finger or Scruggs technique (there are several different "rolls" you can use with that approach, with the forward roll being the most widely known.)
I primarily Frail or Clawhammer, which involves exclusively downpicking melody notes by striking your fingernail across the string, and then strumming down, and then sounding the short fifth string with your thumb. I can point you to resources for this if you like.
And which banjo did you end up with? I'm playing a basic Tyler Mountain TM5-35 as my primary right now, but I'm about to upgrade to a Somerset S-5 Minuteman.
Ha you might like this, It's a Danville 24 bracket(?)
I know a dealer and have bought a lot from him before so he gives me pretty good deals, I payed $120 for it, and he threw in a good bit of stuff.
I don't know too much about how to spot a good banjo but he deals pretty quality stuff. Yeah i mostly have just been doing the forward and backward roll. I'll look into the others now, But i'm definitely open to any help you could give me or resources you know. Thanks.
Yes, the chords we have over there will work just fine for a mandolin :) We play it in G here since it's a great easy key for banjo and mandolin players.
Oh alright, I just recently started playing mandolin. Like the other week actually. I was looking for covers to learn the chords off of because i have a real hard time finding sheet music online and mandolin tabs are pretty rare.
Yeah i thought the original was in Em, and normally i think of the first chord as the key it's in so i wasn't sure. I'm hopefully going to get a banjo soon. Any recommendations or suggestions for buying a new banjo?

Hey, I bought that banjo. When your playing it though, Can you just arpeggiate chords? Like are you just playing G, Em and C finger-picked?

Will the chords you put over on the side work for on a mandolin? VERY good too ;D
This is great. Too bad more people don't listen to folk music.
