The best way to combat the mainstream media is to only buy music, movies, books, magazines, and newspapers from alternative media, independent studios, and small record labels. Sell/trade any DVDs and CDs you have from the big 6 media conglomerates. Don't use myspace or IGN which are owned by Fox. Don't even look at a trailer to their movies. Give up a little so your kids don't have to give up a lot.

It's a whole agglomeration of military-industrial complex, oligopoly, etc., able to influence too much policy because legislators gotta keep their incumbencies and are dependent on them (as well as some powerful SIGs.

cherry: Here's my understanding of it. Libertarians apparently believe that gov't is sort of the source of all problems. Therefore, they believe that the problem of the corp sector is that gov't "enables" it or "coerces" it or "subsidizes" it, and that's where the problems arise, therefore, just make the gov't _smaller_ and the corp sector will sort of fix itself, they would say. I think those beliefs are completely nuts, the answer is to fix the gov't.

Good suggestion on watching Olbermann. He's a fairly straight shooter.
