@titchymcmidget I guess you can somewhat say that. The repertoire of what they are playing is very old, hundreds of years in fact, but I guess the organization of the performance is more contemporary. It is a quite beautiful combination of instruments. Raag Malkauns in Teentaal. Very nice!
I remember that the Hindu word for 'musician' is "bhagavathar", lit., 'one who sings the praises of God' What attunement among the musicians! Magic indeed of a great spiritual source.
There's no doubt that ragas in the Hindu tradition have a spiritually mystic origin. Ragas in the Vedas were designed for instruments of meditation, and mediums of expression of bhakti, or devotion, to the Supreme.
My honest opinion is that there's no better way to express one's personal devotion to God than through music.
