@superfrickensexy r u kiddin me macho man drew more money in from 85-88 then bret did his entire career. @undisputedgreatest OK, I can see saying that about Bret (at least one of the best). But Savage? He had speed and agility sure. How many moves or holds did he really use? He was good. Better than most even. But one of the two best? Not even close. It was his personality, Elizabeth and his cat and and mouse BS that made him. IMO his mic skills were also overrated. Not that I really care all that much about mic skills ( overrated importance if you ask me). Mic skills have very little......
@undisputedgreatest I will say this. That Savage was one of the greatest I-C champs ever. I'll also say that his match with Steamboat at WM III was probably the greatest match in WWE history. His match with The Ultimate Warrior at WM VII was probably the best of the Warriors career. A classic. Many people like to say that Savage carried the Warrior through that match. They must not have seen it. Nobody was carrying anybody. So yes Savage was a great champion (I-C). He could have a great ......
@undisputedgreatest match. But one of the two greatest ever? Sorry, I'm not convinced. I really wish wrestling fans would raise their standards, at least a little. Then the promoters would have too as well.
So Vince McMahon says of Randy Savage: "Randy, who died in a car crash May 20 at age 58, was one of the building blocks of what is now WWE (previously known as the World Wrestling Federation)." That quite a different tune than him saying of Savage "I don't ever want to do business with that man." Vince McMahon is such a two faced person, but in the world of business, what else is new?
Great match by two highly skilled wrestlers giving their all inside the square circle. Wrestlers of today should watch this match to understand what it takes to perform a memorable contest.
One of the best WWF matches of the 80's. This match had great psychology, selling and the storytelling of Randy Savage with his bad leg beating the odds against Bret and his cronies. Its wrestling like this that is a lost art in today's no talent 5 move (and that's being generous) Cena era. Randy Savage and Bret Hart all all time greats because they believed in their abilities enough to make each other look good unlike Hunter Hearst McMahon who would have just squashed someone.
one thing I admire about Macho is how he is totally unafraid to make his opponents look good. Macho made bums like Warrior and Honky Tonk look like a million bucks. He shares that quality with Bret Hart and Andre the Giant, who are legends that actually made stars - Andre with Warrior and Hogan; Bret with Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, British Bulldog, Undertaker - doubting what I'm saying? each one of these guys had the best match of their career with the Hitman - they said as much!
andre did not make warrior into a star the honky tonk man getting squashed by him did, hogan was a star b4 the andere match and after that he was a legend, bret didnt make owen hart, hbk or undertaker, owen got some help but his ability is what made him a star not bret, the undertaker was a star way b4 he fought bret, hbk is the same
Andre made the Warrior into a zombie after he took cheap shot at him in the ring. He put out his fist and warrior ran into it and knocked himself out.
I would put Ricky the Dragon Steamboat as the one of the true greats (but not reaching that pinnacle as the ones mentioned) in making their opponents look super strong, and make the whole match believable.
The thing is, when you make it realistic (ie getting a suplex really should be painful) vs trying to look like superman (which makes everybody look weak actually) is far more better.
well...back then there was randy savage, now we have randy orton, back then was hulk hogan, now its john cena, there are only few that we can see in most important wrestling eras...shawn michaels, the undertaker, ric flair, you know its really interesting to see how much wrestling evolved. but there is one thing i noticed watching both past and present wrestling matches and that is the fact that the moves today seem more complex and the matches go on for a lot longer time.
@mancalledstinger thats right mate the old wrestling matches were the best. wrestlers had character were great talkers. lets get to the point why are we not seeing new macho man or new bret hart wrestlers? my take is ego maniac vince has destroy wrestling by restricting the young talent coming up.
@chocolateman85006 relax man look at usa? look at the bill of rights go down the drain? same shit man! wrestling going down the drain like zionist jew central banker style. get rid of them! grab ur guns and shoot these zionist! save america from the nwo!
@themios72 Thats not true, Bret Heart and Macho Man were workers but its always been a well known fact that Hulk Hogan can't wrestle and yet he's the best of all time!!!!!
i agree that it sucks now. but you gotta remember that wwf has changed several times over the years. when wwf broke away from the traditional territory wrestling shows a lot of people didnt like wwf because they were used to what they had. same with now, i grew up with late 80s/early 90s and dont like todays product. anyone who grew up with the attitude era would think that this era was lame. ultimate warrior was huge, but do you think he would be popular today?
growing up in a certain era is going to effect what you view as good wrestling. vince was smart enough to realize that in the 80s he could build a superhero and made a fortune. he was also smart enough to figure out that no one wanted a superhero anymore and created SCSA and attitude era.now were stuck in this era that i can not watch since its terrible, but its what makes the money now. soon enough another age will come. i agree the PG era is terrible, but he is marketing kids now
i agree that cena sucks, but its who the kids like now. i see little kids in cena shirts all the time. gotta market to the young crowd, get them interested now so when they are teenagers and young adults they are still interested. when the kids who are watching now are late 20s or older they will say the same things that my generation is saying now. everyone misses the good ol days
@radicalman33 Why do so many people call it the PG era? Like a stupid rating is what cases mediocrity. I agree WWE sucks now but not because of a rating. It's because fans have been conditioned to accept mediocrity. This era we're watching here was more PG than what you see now. The Attitude Era ended ten years ago. It's dead. Finished. Over. Time to move on. C.M. Punk and Daniel Bryan are the new wave of star. With guys like Evan Bourne and Sin Cara on the mid-card and a veteran like .......
why do people call it any era? its just a given name. where does golden age of wrestling come from? ` how much `attitude was there in the attitude era? its just a name. does it matter if the attitude era died 10 years ago? people who grew up with that like it and miss it. i didnt like it and am glad its over.
