i do not understand, i am an orthodox and we do not keep the Sabbath, we rest on sundays, the only ones that keep the Sabbath in my country are the seventh day adventists and i do believe that the Sabbath is the day when we must rest because that is what the Bible says so what's with the comments such as ''The Orthodox keep the Sabbath, which is on Saturday.''?

The Lord Jesus Christ says he is the Lord of the Sabbath!

We Orthodox keep the 7th day Holy and this is our Sabbath. Because the day Christ rose he freed us and gave us rest.

The seventhdayadventists hold to the creational sabbath.

The Orthodox hold to the Divine Sabbath. For Christ is Lord of the Sabbath!

@Adonomos the orthodox priests that i have spoken with said that they do not keep any kind of sabbath, they keep the sunday because that is the day Christ came back to life, the chapter from Isaiah 56 states pretty clear to me which day we must keep

@Adonomos i appreciate your response, there is no need to debate this because it is endless, and i am not seeing it from the old testament only ,Christ said in matthew 5.17 a very important message regarding the Law, the Sabbath was given at the time of the Creation when there were no jews or any other nations, only humans, and as far as i remember the first Christians that were the apostols kept the Sabbath , you can find that in the Facts.

Did Christ ressurected on Saturday or Sunday? Sunday. Every Sunday is celebration of Christ resurection. Not some Jewish sabbath. Although there were groups of Christian Jews who held also Sabbath at that time, there was no sense for Greeks, Serbs, or any other Orthodox to hold it.

@jovanj777 He didin't change the law, the sacrifices that they were making were all pointed to the last sacrifice , the sacrifice of the Lamb, it is true that He ressurected on sunday , but He never said to keep the sunday, for me the Bible is the supreme authority and i didin't find any verse that states that we must keep the sunday.

Of course because you made Idol out of Bible, you can't comprehend that Church is living organism that grows. Christ left Church to apostles because he trusted them. Obviously you don't trust them. And, notice that Bible is not Kuran. Bible is not given all at once with some special kind of revelation or teleport. Gospels are writings of early Church that are meant to be used between early Christians to pass the teachings of Christ. Also Paul's letters. Why do you think they are called letters? Because they were letters. You all seem to give greater importance to Bible than to the Church.

@jovanj777 For me the word of God is more important than the word of man, Jesus said Matthew 5:17 something very clear , and of course like all faith related matters this is endless, i'll continue keeping what Lord asked me to keep through His word, plus Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11:1 that we must follow Jesus steps , and Jesus kept the Sabbath.

Why did he said abolish the Prophets? Because Pharisees did that and are doing it to this very day. Version of Old Testament you protestants have is written in Hebrew by Pharisees. Every bit that has to do with virgin birth and specifics about Christ, like tree (cross) are removed.

What happened to the Greek word Eucharist in your English Bibles? It is clear from Greek word and it's usage in early Church it is not ordinary supper

The Orthodox keep the Sabbath, which is on Saturday. Sunday is the day of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We also keep the fasts, specifically on Wednesday, because on this day the council of the Jews gathered to betray our Lord, and also on Friday, because on this day He suffered death for our salvation.

The Orthodox have kept the traditions and teachings of the early Church. Our worship is Christ centered.

The protestant movement came as a reaction to the obvious wrong practices and doctrines that the Catholic were teaching. Martin Luther himself disagreed with the Catholic church on one main doctrine: Salvation. Catholics said sinners had to pay for their salvation and/or earn it. However, the Orthodox church and many other religious movements agree on the fact that Jesus died for our sins, He saved us, we have to accept that sacrifice. The Bible holds the truth not a given church.

Jesus DID NOT found the orthodox church, He founded the CHRISTIAN church. Now, God DOES NOT change, it's us, human, who do not follow his will and he has to give the mission to someone else (the same way the Jewish were the chosen ones but after Christ they were not anymore). God did not change opinion, it was them who followed laws of men, not the law of God. Couldn't that had happened to the Orthodox church? does it really follow Jesus' teachings? Sabbath keeping is not related to worshiping only but stop doing things u do on a regular basis (Exodus 20).

True... the life of a Christian is dedicated to God and doing His will, no question about it. But that doesn't erase the fact that Jesus himself and Lucas, and Paul, and Peter, and the Virgen Mary kept the Sabbath as the most special day they had. Make no mistake, those people, specially Jesus, are the example to follow. Stop making excuses to fit the Bible into your beliefs, rather fit your life into what the Bible actually says throughout both the OT and the NT. Research it.
