one time a friend of mine (ex zookeeper in Mexico City) told me something that even when big cats use their "death bite" as a tool to chock to dead its preys, they prints its max pressure when they're feeding, unlike canines who use their jaws as first weapon to attack, so they print more pressure at the "first bite" than cats even the big ones.
Human over population is not true! Human intervention is more of a problem. Humans wipe out their natural habitat for farming that's the issue. Not over population. I dont know if you have ever been in airplane but you need to be to see how small we really are.
i think great powers lke america, russia europe etc are capable enough to catch or prevent those criminals who hunt these animals i think they should do as much as they are doing against terrorism. is there something a common person like me can do besides donating for the organization especially if i don't have funds.
@TheDanceofjoy You're right, you can visit our website CatLaws*com all the current issues are posted there along with ways you can contact state representatives etc... about laws we are trying to get passed.
i would love to be a part of an organization like this. my dream job once upon a time was to be a zoo curator. congradulations on your success so far and i hope that one day these beautiful creatures can prosper once more in a safe enviroment.
No we don't breed, this would just be adding to the problem of these cats living in cages, when there are so many out there living in poor conditions that need rescuing.
So do you leash train them. Like putting them on a leash and taking them out of there enclosures to learn new scents and see new thing, like just continuing to allow there scenes to be indulged by new things.
NO WAY! These animals are far too dangerous to do things like this, we don't have any contact with our cats. We are 100% against people owning these cats as "pets" so we never want to send the wrong message :)
So what do you think of people like Dave Salmoni having a close connection with 2 Tigers. Or Kevin Richardson for actually being part of a Lion pride.
Or Simon King the British film maker and presenter of big cat diary becoming the surrogate mother of 2 orphaned Cheetah cubs in hopes of releasing them into the wild. He succeeds and the Cheetahs become independent. However he is still able to walk up to them after they make a kill or lay with them in the shade while he checks there health.
It's different in each case, I saw parts of the Salmoni show, was he trying to raise them for release into the wild? If so this is a gigantic waste of time, if we can't preserve what habitat is there for the existing tigers, what is the point and where did those two tigers come from? Kevin Richardson is an accident waiting to happen, why does he enter the cage with these animals?
I haven't seen the UK presenter and don't know the full story, but why lay next to them with a kill? He's done his job, cheetahs need more diversity when it comes to bloodlines to breed, many are inbred so this is good, but laying next to them seems unnecessary, leave them to be wild :) WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I feel the same way about Kevin Richardson. I think Salmoni said that about Tiger habitat, he was just trying to show that it was possible, but never released them in Asia. I have no Idea where the Tigers are now.
The trouble with shows like Salmon's is that they kinda create the idea that others can do this with big cats so they go out and buy cute cuddly cubs, which soon grow large and dangerous and cannot be tamed. The the owners abandon them, thanks for replying :)
Wow, Sarmoti didn't waste any time! It's so interesting to watch their different reactions to their treats! Buffy was like "Eh, the tail's OK, I'm going back to the paper!"
Its difficult to find info on the subject and accurate as well, this video was made a few years ago, so the info may be inaccurate. I searched the web and the tiger is supposed to have 1000lbs of pressure per square inch, does this sound right to you?
I don't know actually... What I know is that dogs is between 150 lb and 350 lb... wolves are 400+ lb... Crocodile which has the most power is 2,000 lb.. I don't know about tigers or lions... Thanks anyway for your care :)
From the ranging videos / information I've seen. It seems to range from 700 ~ 1200. So Averaging out probably at around 1000 should be accurate enough.
wow this tigers are very very impressive they look so heavy those must be at least 500 lbs right? those 4000 pounds of preasure are impressive i wont put my hand in the tigers mouth hahahah.
this ones weights more than cameron the lion right. ? they have no claws ?
Here is an idea...freeze some treets, like bits of meat, cow tails, whatever, along with a stout cotten rope to hang them with...adn suspend them from over head where the cat can reach them, and bat at them and naw at them. ALso how about a bigger version of the house cat toy where you put treats in a small ball that is launched at intervals...the "balls" could be made of ice with the treats frosen inside. A treat you can play with first.
I know that you make frozen treats, but like I said, Cats of all kinds and sizes need to play and many like to bat at suspended objects. I remember a film about a hot air baloon trip over Africa on PBS to study animals in their habitat...as they were launching the balloon a young lioness around 2 years old came running out of the bush, and chased the rope still trailing on the ground, pouncing at it and like any housecat, rolling over on her back to pummel it with her hind feet. Continued
LOL Buffy is like most "kids", you give them a present and they play with the box or in this case the wrapper. And yes I know they are not "kids" in some sence, but I think of them as, in the words of Mercedes Lacky "ever Younger Siblings" humans took them out of their natural way of living so now we are their guardians.
We're giving the animals a voice, as well as caring for over 130 cats at BCR we are constantly trying to get the laws changed and reinforced regarding captive wildlife in the US. They need our help...

These cats are very wonderful and beautiful, It's always fun to see big cats doing there thing with minimal human interference, curious have you had any births there?
We've been operating for over 16 years now and at first we bred some cats under the recommendation of others that this was the right thing to do to preserve the species, we also had some accidental births. Since then we have learnt and evolved realizing that this was just adding to the problem of big cats living in cages, we do not breed anymore.
Yeah I found out in another video you fix them, so that answered my question but thanks for taking the time to answer, these guys are really sweet. You even have Ocelots! I freaking love them. Hope to see more footage of them.
I was wondering, Have there ever been incidents where the tigers/lions have ever attacked a worker, and i saw your video with the bloodsicle, chisicle and whatnot and i was wondering did you ever try ground beefsicle? or steaksicle?oOr do you only give them certain types of meat?
NO accidents or injuries at BCR, we have a no contact policy and strict rules/training scheme etc... We have tried things like that for the larger cats we have also frozen rabbits in popsicles for them to have!
It is, our ultimate goal is to put ourselves out of business by getting the laws changed regarding private ownership of these cats so we don't need to keep rescuing them form horrible situations, thanks for watching.
I'm beginning to think the guy who wrote 'Watership Down' was right when he said humans aren't going to be satisfied until they've rid the planet of every other animal species but themselves.
He wrote the book b/c he thought housing development companies in England were sacrificing the wild rabbit's habitat to meet their own ends.
He wanted to raise public awareness of the issue, which he detailed through the story.
It is very true, this generation will be looked back on as the barbarians who destroyed everything, hopefully we will wake up to this problem sooner rather than later! :)
Feeding live cows to a bunch of tigers is a disgraceful practice, our cats are fed 6 times a week including whole prey (dead), the cow tail "snack" is just a form of enrichment we gave to our tigers to encourage natural behaviors and give them something to do. Privately owned captive tigers are also bred for their body parts or canned hunts in the USA.
Why is "feeding live cows" to tigers a disgraceful practice? In their natural habitat tigers kill and eat live animals. I would consider that if you "feed them live animals" you are encouraging natural behaviors. I'm just curious. :)
My cat likes to steal taco bell wrappers out of the trash can and play and chew on them. I don't know why but it is just his thing. Hopefully there isn't some sore of harmful chemical on em other than the meat grease.
Yep, they were wrapped in paper, it's harmless to them and they just rip it off and leave it for the cleaners to pick up! Big Cat Rescue is actually in Tampa Florida, we still have feral pigs here, but we'd never feed them to the cats. Thanks for watching!
tampa florida? Is it a normal place for kids to come (with parrents) i live in destin florida id love to come the tigers, our family use to live in Lousiana So we are big Lsu football fans ^^ (which our mascot is a tiger Mike the tiger)
Yep, we have guided tours at 9am and 3pm mon-fri then saturday at 9:300am, 11:30am, 1:30pm if you have any children under ten they need to go on the kids tour sat morning at 9am, hope you can make it for a visit!
Thanks! We have over 130 cats at the sanctuary these include, lions, tigers, leopards, snow leopards, cougars, lynx, bobcats, servals, ocelots, caracals, jungle cats, sandcats, fishing cat, visit our website for more info: bigcatrescue*org
I like the way you post facts along the way. It appeared that most of tigers came/retired from circus. Does a circus call and ask you to take them? It looked like India had ladders in her/his area. Do retired tigers still want to do any of their old routines (dumb I know)? Why were the ladders there?
Thanks for watching, the circus we deal with a s a cradle to the grave policy and we agreed to take some of their older tigers from them to retire. They were sliding doors in India's enclosure we use these to seperate her into one side if we need to do maintenance on the other side. We don't make any of our cats do tricks.
Aww buffy is so cute while playing with his paper !! Seriously you guys are doing great work!! Keep it up! It makes me feel good to see that some people are actually doing something to help these animals!

really inaccurate PSI bite force data. hyenas are about 1000 PSI and are probably the strongest jaws amongst land mammals. the nile crocodile is around 2000 PSI and pitbulls are merely 200-250 PSI. a tiger is probably between 600-800.
actually the crocodile has been updated. first it was 2500 pounds psi but they tested again when crocodiles not worn out and the 18 foot(5.4 metre) crocodile had 5000 psi
Hi, it's just another form of enrichment for our cats, we do all sorts for them we make bloodcicles, chickcicles and sardini martinis (all frozen) so it gives them something to do during the hot days. No matter how nice you make their enclosure they are still stuck in a cage so we give them enrichment to stimulate natural behaviors!
God these animals are so incredible...I would love more than anything to help out Bigcatrescue or intern with them :) I think that would be incredible...I can never learn too much about them! I'm doing all I can to help save the amazing cats.
I WANT TO INTERN AT BIG CAT RESCUE!!! I LOVE BIG CAT RESCUE AND I LOVE BIG CATS!!! I AM SENDING IN AN APPLICATION AND I'VE ALREADY SENT IN MY RESUME!!! -Elizabeth Hyder
Hi, the cats will eat the bones as it's a good source of calcium in their diet, we make sure they get whole prey once a week, which will be rabbits for the big guys and rats for the liitle cats!
Really? I didn't know that tigers ate bones. So is Buffy the oldest? I see the tigers in the video are all retired from a circus do you have tigers from anywhere else?
Unfortunately Buffy died last year he was 22 years old, we do have tigers from different backgrounds, Zabu our white tigress was rescued from a roadside zoo, and we have numerous tigers that were rescued from "backyard breeders". For more info visit our website: bigcatrescue*org.
aww they act just like big house cats. even my biggest house kitty Mr. Ash 18lb is tiny in compered to that big kitty. That is too cute the kitty wanted the paper more then the food.
Buffy says "I don't want that ucky cow tail. Either get me some better food or just give me the paper." Kind of energetic for being 21 years old, though I understand that 25 to a tiger is rather like 15 to a house cat. At that age I'd expect her to be calm, sedentary and requiring minimal or no caution but maybe not. Was the paper laced with catnip by any chance? Are tigers even affected by catnip? I had an actual house cat who wasn't made playful but rather felt sick from exposure to catnip.
who would kill them? its sick , such a proud beautiful creature , id rather see a human get shot than a tiger , id cry my eyes out and kill the person if I seen it happen.
cCcORDULUMcCc, I am sorry you didn't enjoy the videos. What would you consider action? We try to offer learning material about the cats and about what we do. Thank you, though, for your comment.
HilaryLynne, Big Cat Rescue is located in Tampa, Florida. Visit our main wesite at BigCatRescue*com to learn more about us, what we do, why we do it and how we do it. Donations do provide for the cats and VERY VERY VERY little goes towards administration. Feel free to mssage me any time for more details.
Next time I am in Florida, your sanctuary will be the first place I visit. Actually, the BF and I might have to make a special trip. I so love your dedication to these beautiful animals.
These cats are truely beautiful! They seem to be having lots of fun in the program~! If I get any ideas for enrichment, I'll let you guys know! :)

My cat likes to steal taco bell wrappers out of the trash can and play and chew on them. I don't know why but it is just his thing. Hopefully there isn't some sore of harmful chemical on em other than the meat grease.
markjurrens 2 years ago
Nice I like that, maybe we should rub taco bell wrappers on our enrichment, see if it as any similar effects? :)

bengali looks like she'd kill for some opposable thumbs at 1:48...
on the other hand, if tigers evolve thumbs mankind is screwed.
SatelliteExile 2 years ago
Bengali is a he not a she, your right bet he would like opposable thumbs make things alot easier!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
Oh, I don't know. I have two cats myself, and they don't need opposable thumbs to get around! :)

was it wrapped in paper
thats weird
i say give them ferral pigs, not alive, but feed them the scorn of there region this is in australia isnt it
ANCESTERSMEMORIES 2 years ago 2
Yep, they were wrapped in paper, it's harmless to them and they just rip it off and leave it for the cleaners to pick up! Big Cat Rescue is actually in Tampa Florida, we still have feral pigs here, but we'd never feed them to the cats. Thanks for watching!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago

I like the way you post facts along the way. It appeared that most of tigers came/retired from circus. Does a circus call and ask you to take them? It looked like India had ladders in her/his area. Do retired tigers still want to do any of their old routines (dumb I know)? Why were the ladders there?
chihuahuabulldog 2 years ago
Thanks for watching, the circus we deal with a s a cradle to the grave policy and we agreed to take some of their older tigers from them to retire. They were sliding doors in India's enclosure we use these to seperate her into one side if we need to do maintenance on the other side. We don't make any of our cats do tricks.

wait i stand corrected... buffy? i assume thats a female. she's enormous.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
Nope you were right the first time Buffy is a male tiger.
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
really inaccurate PSI bite force data. hyenas are about 1000 PSI and are probably the strongest jaws amongst land mammals. the nile crocodile is around 2000 PSI and pitbulls are merely 200-250 PSI. a tiger is probably between 600-800.
all this aside... that is a HUGE male.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
actually the crocodile has been updated. first it was 2500 pounds psi but they tested again when crocodiles not worn out and the 18 foot(5.4 metre) crocodile had 5000 psi
snoopdogsballs 2 years ago
Lol that tiger ate the paper over the tail. Must of been bored rather than hungry.
kingkongbassbeat 2 years ago
why do they give them the cow tails wrapped in paper?
alehax27 2 years ago
Hi, it's just another form of enrichment for our cats, we do all sorts for them we make bloodcicles, chickcicles and sardini martinis (all frozen) so it gives them something to do during the hot days. No matter how nice you make their enclosure they are still stuck in a cage so we give them enrichment to stimulate natural behaviors!

The Liger is actually the largest cat,and is more than twice the size of a lion and Tiger put together.
sforsayid 2 years ago
I think the video was referring to the largest species that exists in the wild.
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
i always thought lions were bigger? hmm o well I <3 tigers and i don't want them to become extinct.
bri2103 2 years ago
The liger is actually not a species. It's a subspecies and do not exist in the wild, only in captivity.

so they are in retiredment possitions they be like do this by ur self cuz iam retired lol
kungfustyler 3 years ago
i noticed allot of there food is given to them with bones. do they eat around them or are they actually eat them?
mashersmasher 3 years ago
Hi, the cats will eat the bones as it's a good source of calcium in their diet, we make sure they get whole prey once a week, which will be rabbits for the big guys and rats for the liitle cats!
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
Really? I didn't know that tigers ate bones. So is Buffy the oldest? I see the tigers in the video are all retired from a circus do you have tigers from anywhere else?
fireater25 3 years ago
Unfortunately Buffy died last year he was 22 years old, we do have tigers from different backgrounds, Zabu our white tigress was rescued from a roadside zoo, and we have numerous tigers that were rescued from "backyard breeders". For more info visit our website: bigcatrescue*org.

Also, do you rely on donations for care and feeding?

Donations do provide for the cats and VERY VERY VERY little goes towards administration. Feel free to mssage me any time for more details.
