  • @BikemagicVideos these are just crosscountry bikes and they suck donkey balls. and they don't even wear friggin full face helmets. so that's very dumb, especially when you go down a mountain with such a crappy bike.

  • @halfpipefreak I take it you know nothing about the origins of DH then??? Look up the 'Re-pack Riders' and say their bikes are crappy too. If it wasn't for the Grand-daddies Of Downhill you wouldn't be riding 200mm travel bikes. JMC is a legend.

  • @RobSchmooz who the hell do you think you are saying to me i know nothing about DH. dude i wasn't even talking to you, i was talking to jimbonorth1 so why are you commenting to me. just bugger off mate.

  • Dirt Video of 1995-the first MTB video I ever watched, and the reason I started getting into MTB'ing. One thing's for sure, if J was alive today, he would be world No.1, 60mph on a "long travel" bike back then is mental, imagine how he'd perform with today's technology.

I'm glad we haven't forgotten him, the UK MTB scene owes this man a heck of a lot.

  • Who is this Jason McRoy character?

    Legend! RIP

  • dude go real downhill with 200 mm forks and rear damper and do big ass jumps and stuff, this stuff's old ...

  • @halfpipefreak

Have some respect man, the boy was a legend. If it wasnt for the likes of him doing this stuff you wouldnt be doing jumps and stuff with your rear damper.

  • @jimbonorth1 back in 94 they had dampers and double crown forks. just watch kranked, that's soooo old and they ride double crowns and big DH bikes for that time. i even had a old DH bike from 2001 with a double crown 120 mm fork and a fox rear damper. the first DH bikes were made in the 80/90 's so this stuff is a bit lame if you'dd ask me. but still pretty cool for hardtail and i do respect those guys, i mean they ride really fast and do some small jumps on those flimsy bikes that's pretty sick

  • Jason was a school friend of mine. Great guy and great to BMX and play basketball with him. Crazy competitive!

  • I bought a bike from a bike shop in cheshire in the 90s and after a few weeks the i took it back because the gears were not working properly. Anyway, one of the staff lent me a bike so i could still ride that weekend. It was almost the same as the one jason was riding in this clip and it did have the letters JMC on the frame. When i took it back a couple of days later all the shop staff were all like amazed i had returned it because the guy never took my details. My bike was only £349. LOL

  • @superweng10

If i remember correctly he was on his Harley Davidson and collided with a Lorry. If i remember correctly. Long time ago. He was a massive inspiration all of the UK MTB fraternity then. first UK rider to get a decent international job with Specialized.

  • Are Bikes are so Plush compared to that. Wow He is a Badass

  • at the end it is funny how dramatic riding down that stairs is.

  • Haha that DH is so crazy and different than modern day dh! Crashing at that speed would suck so bad..

  • what really happened to McRoy?

  • Ride on JMC.

  • OMG! Me and him have the same last name!!

  • R.I.P JMC. You helped give me the MTB fever, all them years ago. You still ride with me pal.

  • you could like die

  • JMcR. Britsh moutain bikeing legend. lost far to early. what could have been?

  • Yeah they hook some serious rear.

  • man that suspension is well outta date, fox on the rear,

  • DAMN, look at that... what, 2 FULL INCHES of travel in the front!... respect to these guys.

  • The first time I rode the Kamikaze at Mammoth was in 1997 with a Specialized Stumpjumper hardtail, Judy XC fork with 80mm of travel.

    That was one hairy-ass ride.

  • dude thats all i've ever rode.. haha.. JMC RIP.x. Love from Newcastle.

  • Mastersd has got issues

  • Excellent video. Thanks.

Not really sure why some feel the need to post such negative comments.

  • god that is old skool but still pretty cool

  • the difference being you and 'your buds' inspired no one, thus becoming real no bodies for life.

  • wa**er!!

  • Did we not retain the Falklands?! Unlike you unsuccessfully trying to take backwater Iraq. At least we had a credible Empire.

  • @EMATURBO snapperhead

  • miserable git...

  • So you are 48 years of age, putting forward a Sisyphean argument on an internet message board...

Each to their own, I guess.

  • Jason: still an inspiration after all these years.

  • .... thx for posting! ... used to do cc races in these good ol´ days .... my yeti pro fro still waiting for me in the basemant ...

  • wow lol

  • Well done for uploading this vid. It's ace!!! Big thanks to JMC for inspiring to get into mountain biking all those years ago. It's a real shame that he's not here to see how the sport has evolved over the years. 'Idontlikethisrap' has really missed the point of this upload...

I agree with cashin69, the bit on dirt next to the wall is awesome, makes me want to ride every time i see it.

RIP Jason, a legend and a real hero.

  • i remember exactly where i was when i heard the news about him,one of the greatest things jason did was to get B.M.X.thought of as a sport that had atheletes and not just kids on bikes messing round!.

this years olympics say it all!.

    due in part to jason.

    R.I.P.

  • Wow, thanks for sharing with us this video. Jason McRoy was a superhero. He was the best of the best, a super-cyclist who did on his mountain bike what ever he wanted.

Loved the guy and always will.

  • lol the bikes are dump xD today this is nothing

  • you've really missed the point of this upload

  • ok this guy had good skills even the bikes arent the best

  • What a bloke. i never appreciated him when he was around in the mags,i preferred nico, but untill his death i only found out that he would have been the main contender for nicos dominance. From then on i had major respect for what he achieved and contributed to cycling at the time. Big up JMC.

  • I was lucky to meet him at the European mountainbike championchip in the Tjech Republic, what an amazing guy, the first English rider to join an American team.

On his last coins he entered the kamikaze downhill and won $5000 US to afford his flight back to UK.

    A legend will live on

    R.I.P. JMC

  • brilliant who ever got this footage on the tube. mc roy was the one got me started. dirt is the best video love the part where he is beating along solo, past the wall and the music brilliant. 12 years on one broken arm two broken heals loadsa ribs 1 hand 3 fingers 2 concusions. and last sunday got a broken foot and concussion again, air lifted of slieve donard in co. down norn iron. and still all the better for it. i love mountain biking for ever. xoxox

  • haha the good old days :)

  • just came accross this vid.... like prb007 said... 60mph, no discs!! awesome.

i might dig out my copy of 'Dirt' on vhs.

  • Met him in the Alps in 93 (and Dave Hemming) - all around top bloke - would still be going strong today - and beating people! First UK MTB superstar - taken way too early. Check out the 2" travel Spesh from way back when and the cantis! 60mph and no disc brakes - respect!

  • What a legend. One sadly missed gent indeed.

I remember watching the actual show on TV, the track was by his some in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

It brings a tear to your eye everytime you pass his resting place on the woodhead pass

  • In answer to your remark, NO, he wasn't a wasted stoned biker. He was the most talented rider to come from the Great UK. I have really taken offence to you grier50. The lad ain't here to defend himself and he doesn't have to. Got it? dude!.

    Gra.

If ya think your 'ard enough, lets give it a go.

  • He was on his harley and collided with a lorry (truck) on the woodside pass in Derbyshire, UK. He was a really competitive lad and you can bet your last dollar, wherever he is now, he'll be at the front!. RIP Jason.

    Gra

  • how did he die?

  • Jason McRoy, What a Legend. R.I.P. my son.

    Gra

  • how did he dye?

  • On his Harley in 1995. He has gone onto level 2 in the game!

    Gra

  • My No.1 influence, always will be....Ride Free bro

  • I will pray for his family.

  • R.I.P.

  • remind me of the old days, great rider jason was would of gone further, world champ

    RIP.

  • what happened to him?

  • Excellent vid, check out the reach on Jason's stem!

  • I have one of the Specialized FSR bikes which Jason is riding in this video. It's a peach, 60mm of rear travel and very light. Shame it's a pig to maintain in UK riding conditions.

Jason was almost exactly the same age as me and died on the day I took my bike up Ben Nevis. RIP indeed, someone who should never be forgotten.

  • Its amazing seeing how much the technology has grown in 12 years. Now you wouldn't dare ride that course with less than 5in front and rear! RIP Jason McRoy.

  • RIP Jason Mcroy.

  • nice one for uploading, very rare footage of an mtb legend! cant believe they road mammoth with 2inches of travel on xc bikes, and short sleeve lycra and a polystyrene helmet!

  • Hardtail is where it's at, you learn skills on them.
