The AHL is a far cry from the NHL. It's even a far cry from the old IHL, where the Admirals got over 10,000 a game back in the early 90s when Petit was trying to lure the NHL. The current Admirals ownership treats the team like a circus (I'll explain more about that if prompted), and honest hockey fans like myself never go to Admiral games because its considerably less annoying to go to BAdger games instead.

The NHL gave preferential treatment to the Gund Bros, and that turned Petit away.

Madison would be a superior market... Milwaukee has problems with the Bucks and Brewers as it is.. Badgers always have pretty full crowds (good and bad years).

Madison's a better hockey town than Milwaukee to be sure- but you'll never see a team in any league in any sport survive there. It's a Badger town through and through, and I have a hard time thinking that will ever change.

Although I will agree with the comment on the good crowds at Badger hockey games (and the average attendence figures are usually better than one or two NHL teams each year), it's still not a big enough market to ever bring in anything major.
