Paul is amazing, I've done 7 private lessons with him & 3 with Tom Cruse, incredible fighters, its unbelievable that they're are people who think this stuff doesn't work especially in mma.
i'll never say the biting method doesn't work. but what happens if you bite someone with a disease? like aids for example. something that definitely should be the absolute last resort in a fight. other than that, some good words on the martial arts by mr. vunak. much respect.
If you are in bad enough of a situation to bite someones jugular or face, then bottom line you should be in a life threatening situation. Id rather die 10 years from now, then walk out into the street and die tonight.
Why would you have a stick, then throw the stick away and go to the ground?? wouldn't it be better to beat the crap out of him with your stick?? or run away once he's on the ground. Why do people always go to the ground??? Paul Vunak's great but I don't get why he's saying to do this!!
I think its about leverage. Raising up to bomb away with the stick creates space that people, even untrained people, can use to buck, or reverse you. It was one of the things the Dog Brothers noticed when their fights hit the ground. The stick wasn't that helpful to either guy.
Uncle Vu you are the MAN!!!! I can not wait Till I see and train with you again Sir!! Sorry we had to reschedule but IKE damage my studio. we are going to make it a yearly event!!
He looks different than he did in the 80's lol. In the 80's he looked like a male porn star, now he looks like a regular guy. He's still as lethal as ever
How come when you let a Man know that you are fully capable of protecting yourself, that same man will want to test you? He becomes obsessed with the idea of defeating you. ?
You have know Idea what you are talking about. I have meet and trained with him and he is one of the most kind and spiritual people you will ever meet.
I own some of his tapes...I trained with his teacher Dan Inosanto(one of Bruce Lee's top student)..Guru Dan certifified Mr. Vunak in JKD...he has my respect
But no, Paul Vunak is an awesome instructor and from what I hear he can really walk the walk too, not someone I would want to tangle with for damn sure.
is it just me or does that guy have about the most intense look on his face that you'll ever see on someone? That alone would make most attackers think twice
paul vunak is the TRUTH. dude is one nicest guys you can meet. this soft talking guy you see IS him. he's like a surf dude almost. really really chilled out and friendly. he IS the saying "talk quietly and carry a BIG stick".
I always wondered if when the SEALs recruited him to train the teams the Navy secretely "trailed" him to see him do this stuff on the street. I mean, how else could they know just how good he is?
The way I heard it from an army buddy in special ops is that the SEALs had a bunch of instructors come in, and the testing method was said instructor was attacked by a big mean SEAL and they'd see what's what. Vunak was the only guy who won.
Now that's what I heard, which was way beyond second-hand (17th hand?). Maybe he just performed well under pressure. Either way the SEALs were definitely impressed, and SEALs do things like go get in bar fights, and there's no way they didn't take Vu along.
ive studied jeet kune do concepts for years and all i can say is WOW !!!. Sifu Vunaks attributes look better now than when i was watching his street fighting series 10 years ago. Eric/P.A.
Yes, I believe it's in California. He does a personal seminar program too, that asesses your weaknesses and natural style of fighting and they professionaly video tape your training so you can remember all that you learned.
vunak teach "Kina Mutai" one of the techniques in filipino martial art of Kali.Kina Mutai is the lethal Filipino martial art of Biting, Pinching inside the bicep and inner thighs eye Gouging!. Consider yourself taken down by a big person or a professional Brazilian Jiu-jitsu grappler, locked on the ground, extremely vulnerable position!. kina mutai is use to combat this scenario
i'm seeing so much interesting stuff and now i'm a little lost...
i want to practice a fighting style but i don't know witch one.
i went through several years of karaté and tae kwondo and even muay thai but now i want something else.
what do you think is the best between cqc , krav maga and jeet kune do ? i thanks in advance everyones who will reply ! :) (don't reply for bullshit , i want advises from martial artists , not dumb useless comments ! thanks...)
I say JKD mixed with the Kali is better than most Krav Maga I've seen. Mostly because of the stick training and the flow and movement that comes from that. Not to knock Krav Maga as it is very practical and effective(Isrealis are serious about real world self defense). I just think the Kali/JKD is a much deeper art. IMHO of course.
For all its benefit and not to say it's not effective, krava maga is still somewhat artsy compared to the others you've mentioned. Jkd can be as well, but it's structure and flowmakes up for it in the hands of an experienced practitioner. It dependson what exactly you're looking for, but if it's reality you want, go with sayoc kali. Many methods are great, but all those most useful for say a life and death situation, have at least some basis in kali.
on some of the ground scenes the opponent could easily eyecauge him with his thumbs if he wanted too or bite his face if it was a real lifethreating situation because his hands where free or maybe thats just the way i see it anyway vunak is cool though but then again your real teacher is your self your "logical"reactions and experience like brad pete said on 12 monkeys "there's no right there's no wrong it's all a matter of opinion"people think and act different we are not cyborgs...i guess:)?
It's like Krav Maga, maybe some Kenpo, Escrima, Kali, and maybe some jiu-jitsu. I like the way he handles the Escrima. I want to learn Escrima very badly. Seems like a cool guy. Nice video
Yes he has. I can tell you from experience that Sifu Paul has mellowed ALOT!!! He really is one of the nicest guys I have met. I was out to train with him in April. Sifu Paul cares alot about his students and there training methods.
If you have not had a chance to train with him I highly recommend it.
Yeah Sifu Paul trained with the Gracies in the 80's he often credits Rickson Gracie for his skills in BJJ. He was one of the first people in JKD training BJJ.
By blind luck i became interested in martial arts and happened into a Vunak instructors school,at 16 what are the odds? after a few years of training i hit the road for a decade all over the world. His material has saved my skinny ass more times than i care to mention.Just couldnt believe how well this stuff worked i was so naive to think that all martial arts knew the simple realities he teaches.
awesome, great martial arts teachings and a brilliant philosophy i have always felt the peace that flows through the learning of violence relates back to balancing the sides of our selves the primal and spiritual, the dark and the light and when you find that i have always felt there in lay true human nature
Sifu Paul you are an inspiration and an example as to what martial artists should be and what people should be - its been my honor and priviledge to have been your student. Peace out "Eminence Front" by the Who
I have always known the Paul is such a great artist. One thing I noticed, every TRUE Martial Artist I have met in my life were the nicest people you ever know. A humbleness and compation that other martial artists can read a mile away. I am stationed in Japan and I know a few of them here. We get along very well and hold a great deal of RESPECT for each other. Paul just explained what that truely is in a way I wish I could.
Vunak's DVD's the RAT and the Golden Goose are great. All the RAT moves are efficient, effective, and easy to learn. Just what the Dr. ordered to cure someone's severe case of assholeitis.

I saw him do that once to a guy once in St Louis. This guy got out of hand with Vu while doing Hubud and it got heated and Vu had to tighted the dude up,I think this guy saw several sides of Vu's Elbows and Headbutts.
Many thanks from PFS Sweden! We watched the DVD together yesterday and everybody appreciated Enigma! We are the only PFS club in Sweden (one of few in entire Scandinavia) and are having trouble attracting new students, so this really inspired us with new ideas..
