i think this production is brilliantly done. instead of having the singers going nuts trying to sing and run around, you have this wonderful imagery with the dancers. it's kind of like an upscale cirque du soleil ;)
After listening to so many versions out there, this version's Arriere! is still my favorite. The french is so smooth and crisp, and the tone is pleasantly light and colorful, with a vibrato that's not overdone like I feel with most others. Who's the singer, if I may ask?
Purely magical, deeply moving, tears in eyes. Can i suppose this is the classic Maazel version, best thing he's ever done, and a milestone in 20th century opera recording, actually with the(then)ORTF, and not Orchestre de Paris?
How sensible of Gymnopedist to post Maazel's version - the only version of "L'enfant et les sortilèges" worth listening to, really. Judging by his name, he/she is also a fan of Darius Milhaud. Gymnopedist has good taste!
its very very good

I don't want to put down any composer.
Hayden and Vivaldi they are great but
they did not recognize when they started repeating.

I was there at the wordpremiere in the Netherlands with the ballet of Yiri Kilian.
I think this combination with Lorin Maazel
is the best ever and never will be improved.

Every piece of music from Maurice Ravel
is a masterpiece and will be played everywhere in the whole word.
Thaty's the glorie of Ravel. A good friend of the composer said these famous words and he was right.
Some composers wrote tons of music for example Hayden about 120 symphony's
and lots of other works. I think at least 100of them are wasted time.
Strawinsky once said that Vivali about 800 times wrote the same piece.
I understand what he was talking about.

Maravillosa obra e interpretación musical, y una genial coregrafía de gran originalidad, que siempre está presente en Jiri Kylian.

Can anyone tell me what the picture is at 6:13? I see a woman (Princess? Fairy?) on the right but I cannot see what the figure is on the left.

It's a prince and a princess. When the picture comes apart, the real prince and princess pose in the same way as the ones in the picture.

Thank you... I am doing a similar backdrop for our ballet company's production and I just couldn't get a handle on the prince and his stance.
