  • I'm disapointed in your foam bat...

  • didnt know stu from hangover was a martial arts expert o.O

  • lmfao MMA is the MOST effective way to fight. That top comment is a ridiculous statement considering the fact that Aikido IS a martial art, and MMA is MIXED martial arts! lmfao I respect all forms, and each one has been integrated into MMA. I personally like Capoeira a lot, but there has only been one successful ONLY Capoeira vs MMA fighter and his record was horrible. Still a cool video though.

  • i think 1:44 best describes what your on about with the moving in argument that so many people are making. Good vid.

  • So what happens when the go for your kneecaps? Or actually swing a real bat instead of a foam noodle? Also the majority of these attacks show the attacker without the bat cocked already.

For example in the last move, the defending man received a swing with almost full force on his ribs while closing the distance. That is several cracked ribs on the outside estimate, with a possible punctured lung. Or a broken arm if you take the swing on the humerus.

  • LOL if i swung a bat at you trust me you wouldn't be able to do that but then again it depends on the person swinging the bat as much as it does on the person defending himself

  • Im pretty sure I can beat the shit out of you with a bat.........Lets meet up....I have a camera

  • Distancing, timing, and most importantly, reaction timing, are vital to actually performing Aikido against an opponent who truly wishes to hurt you. The techniques are neutralizing, taking away their ability to use strength effectively due to the body's joint angles and muscle construction. The longer you train in any close combat scenario, the shorter your reaction time becomes. A baseball bat is an unbalanced weapon, and so only the first swing requires a good reaction time to evade.

  • @ensoakido u really enspired me 2 learn how to defend myself now i dont have to worry about bullys and crap like that thx :)

  • Why is he using sword techniques for his bat? Like who swings bat with both hands, and over head? Most people would do sweeps, and it would be a lot harder to grab a metal or wood bat. The sweeps you did were good. i would like to see a random stranger you invite off the street to try this. give him the foam bat, and be like hit me. just to see what the result would be.

  • this is so fail stop wasting time and money on aikido IT DOESNT WORK and donate to 3rd world countries.

  • Not bad, I guess it'll work if your timing is spot-on.

  • so many people say that aikido is not practical but in my opinion man comes up to you and attacks you and you throw him like a rag doll nine times out of ten they will run away when they get up... i trained in tae kwon do (art of the open hand combat) for about 10 years and trust me if i was thrown around like that i would stay down besides he is trying to teach you how to avoid conflict if he was to go full out his partner would probably have many broken bones being thrown around like that...

  • @romashie Traditional TKD isn't practical at all for street defense.

  • After watching these clips several times it is evident that the basic idea is to read your opponents body language. Step in at the right time and you are (relatively) safe, plus you are withing a range for counterattack. Reminds me of my days (long ago) practising Wado-Ryu -style.

  • Hey mate, I noticed alot of people giving you a hard time but I think your techniques are very good and practical and your videos are informative! Don't listen to haters they are usually just couch heros who watch the UFC and think MMA is the only effective way of fighting. I could go on about that forever but it doesn't matter. Either way keep up the good work.

  • @jimmyisburning Thanks, mate. Will do my best!

  • @jimmyisburning your right bro ! great video man ! dont listen to those knuckle heads wheres there videos at least enso has the balls to try to help people and post his videos i want to see some of these critics videos of them selves preforming there elite techs .

  • @aetius2277 Thanks very much.

  • I srsly dont understand why people give so much shit to the guy. If you want to face an armed guy with 1 video training then you are the idiot. Nice techniques.

  • @RakaTV Well said. Thanks very much.

  • This is not 'watch this video and you will win.' This is 'if you can't escape, evade and counter; here is one technique to evade and counter.' You have to imagine how it might play out - you do it right, you throw him or pin him like it shows. If only partly right, you got closer - now trip/punch/kick. "Fighting is easy, winning is hard." - Keith English

  • using Aikido against a baseball bat is a no brainer imo, after all.. if you can avoid a samurai sword, you can avoid a baseball bat

  • fuck that shit. just fucking tackle their bitch ass and beat their fucking face into their brain

  • @heatwave2012 The point of Aikido is to defeat the opponent without your own force. At least, that's what I've understood about it. It's basically using the opponents own attacks against him. Also, it's more embarrassing for the asshole who tries to start a fight and loses to someone who didn't throw a punch or a kick.

  • i think what you need is someone who is actually trying to hit you. try that, have him actually try, HARD. tell him if he does hit you he gets his next belt test free. i bet that'll modivate him! Thats the only problem ive seen in videos like these. noone is buying it because it dosent look like he's actually trying.

  • they know their weakness, a bat is a ranged weapon in that it is most effective 2'-3' away from yourself. someone with a bat will keep you at bay while chasing you down. in game terms, its called kiting.

  • the hardest part of fighting someone with a bat is that they dont move in like that! they hardly move in at all, they want to hit you with the sweet spot, they usually swing for the hands as they are backing up, no swinging while moving forward. as soon as a limb exposes itself it becomes a target. noone takes a full step in unless they are already too far away to hit you in the first place.

though my experience comes from broken bar cues, not bats, so the tech may be a lil different.

  • @mantar247 lmfao

  • @mantar247 "no one takes a full step in unless they are already too far away to hit you in the first place."

Exactly. Managing the distance is a key concept in Aikido. We always try to maintain a distance that forces the attacker to move in if s/he wants to reach you, then you move at the same time and it neutralizes the threat, since the target is no longer at the proper range when the attack is fully realized.

  • @EnsoAikido This makes perfect since because engaging is your last resort. If you are at a far enough distance they can't hit you then you may not have to fight. If they want it that bad then they gotta come at you.

  • @EntrepreneurWickly well said.

  • @mantar247 there is another way of doing this which i call the counter swing. after they swing the back swing or counter swing when they have to bring the bat back into a powerful position. when the bat is fully extended the power of the hit is gone. so you rush in after the swing has met its power point and grab the bat as they try to regain balance....but the beginning is important. the trajectory of the bat is known before the swing. get out of that way while they swing.

  • i wonder if that is less painful then if htey did take the step ... it seems it would be ...

  • He still swings like a bitch give that shit to me ill knock you out with the foam bat.

  • I studied Kajukenbo as a little kid. I actually used that technique in real life against 5 guys in the street, one on my back holding my neck, one in the front. I flipped the guy on my back into the guy in front. Then put my hands up and started boxing. When the attackers are multiple you have to respond with lots of aggression. Aikido is#1 for evasion, but there will come a time when you have to hit hard and train for aggression, that's why I like Krav Maga - it's controlled violence.

  • Do it with a real bat!

  • run, run some more, keep running, because unless you have been doing this for years, you will die in a baseball fight, trying to intercept the swing. Guys who carry them are not nice gents, they swing like crazy, full speed, full force, just ruuuuuuuuuuunnnn!!!!

  • If you are the master of the dojo, I swear I will never in you dojo. The level is if down ...

  • Star wars?

  • Nothing is "100%", don't believe it?, just watch all the failed take downs and subs in the UFC/WEC/Strikeforce etc. I have used some of these techniques in real life. It was better to try, than to sit there and get pummeled by a bat...

  • In order to be able to ward off attacks such as this and others, I would highly recommend learning and practicing martial arts properly. In time you simply get better more capable

  • what dan are you, cause ur belt not showin it

  • Really liked the 5-arts approach to intro. Maybe you could just pick whichever one felt the best and just break that one down to keep it simple?

  • He makes no adjustment as you move. He just swings at a fixed point. He's also standing FAR closer than someone with a bat would stand.

  • Camera angles aren't really great for discussing this issue.

  • Just an idea, step in slightly closer, try get flush under his armpits when you do the throw, this will work a lot better as you will be flowing with the momentum, whereas at the moment you actually look like you block the strike, then follow through with the momentum, maybe it is because you are demonstrating and it is always hard to do it 100% when talking through it.

  • Sorry mate but you are full of shit.

You give people a false sense of security. They watch this shit do it on there mate a few times and think it will actually work!

  • @TheNuncaterindas It's a matter of speed, then a matter of technique, then a matter of strength. There was never a baseball bat involved, but I have been taken down by an aikidoka friend of mine quite easily before on several occasions.

  • @TheNuncaterindas I tried to be clear in the description that escape is the best option. However, if you can't escape, I believe this principle is your best chance, but I never said nor meant to imply that Aikido is easy to do. Martial skill takes countless hours of practice to develop. The intent behind this and all Enso Aikido videos is to inspire people to take up Aikido under the guidance of a qualified instructor.

  • @EnsoAikido Sorry bro, but I would beat the shit out of you with my bare hands, never mind a baseball bat.

  • @TheNuncaterindas so you have a video to demonstrate what goes wrong? I like this video, but, for me, it has nothing to do with a sense of security and everything to do with developing an attitude of forbearance. The only sanctimonious voice in this conversation seems to be yours.

Whether this video was ever produced or posted is one thing, and stupid people pretending to themselves about their ability to handle threats are another thing entirely. Do you judge music by the worst fans you met?

  • Good video, thanks for the heads up!

  • I wonder what you would recommend if you were grabbed by the collar from behind.

  • @FlourescentPotato RFC: Grab own collar with both hands from front if you need to avoid a choke, sidestep about half an arm's length to extend uke, and then step slightly back, turning to see what you've got. That's pretty typical ushiro taisabaki. From there it's pretty much like all of the other videos katatori whatever... please visit a dojo and ask again.

  • I liked this and the variety of techniques you demonstrated. At least it doesn't have a sharp edge like a sword (more to grab onto). Maybe you can do aikido v. chair/barstool. Haha.
