  • EXCELLENT PLAYLIST!!!

  • "Standing ARROW IN THE KNEE deep in a river..."

  • It is amazing how we can get so busy with life and allow the most wonderful and amazing people slip on by......Awesome song!

  • Classic Country is hard to beat. Stuff nowadays called hot new country it is just not the same.

Thanks for the good memories, of Classic Country when its good

    Thanks

  • The Keyboard player is my uncle.. Well not really my uncle but growing up we my siblings and I called him uncle. His name is Gene Lorenzo. He and my dad were really good friends. His cousin, Bill Capizzi was best man at my parents wedding. Bill was in the movie "Heart and Souls". He played the ticket guy at the race track. Great movie. Got to meet Kathy Mattea because of my uncle. She is an awesome woman!

  • @Jewel7685 How interesting! Thanks so much for identifying the keyboard player, and for providing a little backstory to go with it!

  • I stood in line to get her autograph for at least an hour as a kid. I was thrilled to get to see her in person.

  • Kathy Mattea has a beautiful strong and clear voice and this song really shows her great abilities

  • sublime

  • 19 years ago. Wow.

  • I'm so thankful to be reconnecting with so many old friends. This song's for them=))

  • Kathy hit #19 in Billboard, 4-3-93. God bless ya, Miss Kathy!

  • Tremendous song, written by the legendary Bob McDill (many massive hits for Don Williams, Keith Whitley etc) and just a tremendous performance by Miss Mattea!

  • Love this song - lovely video too

  • Hey yo yo -this is a real good song-yo!!

  • Great song from a great artist!! I love the original by Don Williams, but this is so good! Also, that's the GREAT John Hiatt on the stool playing guitar!!

  • @bwmayhew Thanks so much ~ I never realized that was John Hiatt! I've heard his music, but hadn't seen him. I don't suppose you happen to know who is playing piano in this video....would love to identify both musicians with Kathy in this. Again, thanks a million for pointing out this fact! I never tire of hearing this song.

  • @WVSunbird I don't know his name but I believe he's plays in Mary Chapin Carpenters band.

  • What a voice! No wonder she don't get no "air time"! Somebody might say "WHAT"?

    Michael T.

  • James Dupre has covered this song on his new studio debut album available on CD Baby. Fabulous.

His debut album, 'It's All Happening'", recorded in Nashville's greatest studios and produced by country music legends Kyle Lehning and Jerry Douglas, showcases James' incredible voice and genuine sound. 'It's All Happening' releases on Feb 23, 2010.

  • I really feel like this alot lately.

  • had it in our church services, sung by my great wife...

  • i miss the days of kathy mattea, suzy bogguss, etc... being on top of the charts

  • Kathy and Suzy may no longer be topping the charts, but they're definitely at the top of their game. If you get a chance to see them in concert, I'd say don't miss it. Kathy's latest CD "Coal" has garnered tons of critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy. In concert, she is amazing!

  • @JoshDL04 Great song from a great artist!! I love the original by Don Williams, but this is so good! Also, that's the GREAT John Hiatt on the stool playing guitar!!

  • @JoshDL04

Very true, its a sorry lot that is dominating the charts today...

  • "Friends I could count on, I could count on one hand... with a leftover finger or two. I took them for granted, let 'em all slip away... now where they are I wish I knew"

I think they're all on Facebook, playing FarmVille and Mafia Wars but I may be wrong...

  • We in West Virginia are VERY proud of our home grown girl. She never forgot where she came from. Great song...Great person singing it.

  • Always loved Kathy. I wanna cry when I see the homeless looking guy. I have locked eyes with people like that often and been told later by too many people how I need to stay safe because I can't just walk away.

I don't believe Jesus intended us to stay in our corner and stay safe.

To me this song isn't just about telling the ones we love how we feel but telling the ones that need our love, so they can go on living.

  • @turbo1duner you are so right . thanks for the comment . greetings from denmark

  • @turbo1duner Amen

  • Love the song, love the video. Did you know that she is regarded as the female version of the man himself 'DOn Williams'? and he sang background vocals for her on her hit, 'Five and Dime'. Talk about angelic collaboration.

  • CoolVideo

  • i love thissss song sooo much!

  • 何度聴いても好いものはいい!

    kathy ・・・・Thank You・・・・・

  • This is for HappyMike44. You seem like you have been thru a lot. So have I. Was married for 34 yrs and didnt know what I had untill she left.. This song really touches my heart too.. Im married to a wonderful lady now and I keep telling myself. DONT SCREW THIS ONE UP>

I have seen Kathy in concert and she needs more recognition. She sings with feeling and spirit. Not a big screamer and guitar thrower like some singers. Good luck with your future.. Keep looking up.

  • Immediately, this song reminds me that we all need to appreciate more what we are blest with. Sometimes, we have all we need, and more; but we just don't take the time to realize and appreciate it!

  • My nephew passed due to a car accident and hearing this reminds me how lucky I am to have known him for as long as I did.

Never will foget that fun little kid so full of life and questions about the world.

  • My deepest sympathies to you. The year this was writtne, my beloved nephew died..It gave me comfort to know how we must appreciate life.

  • I have been through a lot without his funny sense of life.

I know the loss of someone you love everyday I try to remind myself to be kind to others.

To be friendly and helpful to my fellow man.

To call his sister and brother to see how they are.

To remember to say I love you more and to show it in my actions.

These things help me to be a better person and I hope to improve someone's life.

Thank You and please take care Love from Happymike44

  • oops sorry happymike i accidentally hit the thumbs down sorry i ment to put thumbs up sorry for ur loss

  • Wow, I love this song and this video, but I can't walk by a homeless person without giving him/her something. It just breaks my heart to see people with nothing when I have so much.

  • Reminds me of how lucky I am.

I have recently started a new chapter in my life.

I am happy and looking forward to the future.

This song gives me hope for life can change and for the better.

But the song is still my favorite and wish Kathy would at least perform once and awhile so we could see her again.

  • Hi HappyMike44! Kathy does tour regularly, and her shows are incredible! She plays the smaller performing arts venues rather than the huge pavilions, and the intimacy of the former make her concerts all the more amazing. Check out her tour schedule at mattea (dot)com and catch a show if at all possible. If inspiration is what you need, Kathy Mattea will give it to you in spades, I promise. Wishing you a wonderful 2009! ~Willa

  • Great singer and song

  • Gary Allen I miss you so much. Your loss has hurt so much thru the years my dear nephew.

  • I only knew this song with wonderful Joe Cocker. And when I looked it up I ran in to this wonder of a voice. And it hits my heart every time!

  • I'm glad so many folks are enjoying this song and video by the exquisite Kathy Mattea, many discovering her for the first time...this does my heart good. Another wondrous discovery is Krista Detor...look her up here on youtube -- her voice is stunning, her songwriting would challenge songwriting legends! She's amazing!

  • Wish I saw her first ;o)

  • I recently went back to London and looked her up.

She is someone's mum and she is truly happy.

I now know it will never happen for us to be together.

The song has a new meaning for me now.

I hope she remembers me in a good and kind way.

As this is the way I like to think of her.

May she be happy for the rest of her days.

  • This song reminds of my ex who left my life after I asked them to marry me. I lost touch wth them and now think of them every so often. I wonder how our lives might have been. The road might have been different if we had traveled it together. I have come to realize how much I miss them more then ever before.

  • Very powerful song with one of the deepest messages about friendship!!!

  • Kathy's a great singer and she sings just great ! BUT Has anybody listened to Don William's rendition of this great song ??

  • I have and they are both outstanding! Both for their own reasons. But with 2 of the best country singers of their time--what do we expect?

I love the video with this one, too. Does anyone know if there is a Don Williams video made? I didn't find it when I searched for this song by name.

  • This is one of the most beauyifull true songs and Kathy sings it with such deep feeling. Give generously to the homeless, cuz the way things are going it could be one of us soon

  • Fantastic singer

  • I enjoy this song for its message, how we lose friends. How are lives change and the way ou can find yourself alone. While surrounded by so many. The song makes me remember friends long gone now.Kathy Thanks for the song From happy

  • I covet that chair.

  • A beautiful,sad song with meaningful lyrics...Katie nailed it.

  • These lyrics are so true.

  • Ahh,when the U.K had CMT and we could enjoy gems such as this. Thanks to the arseholes at MTV(who own the rights to CMT),they decided we weren't into this so scrapped it! Well gee thanks MTV for the shit you provide us all in the UK to this day.

  • It's not just the UK. Offerings of music videos in all genres sucks in the US now too. like "Music Television" almost never plays them, and CMT shows little country girls who want to be Brittany Spears with an accent for the most part.

  • (continued): She'll soon release another CD, produced by herself and Marty Stuart, called "Coal", a collection of songs about coal mining in honor of those whose lives were lost in the collapse of the Sago mine and others before them. The songs I've heard in recent concerts to be on that CD are stunning, and they bring the house down. Go see her perform live. It is an experience you'll want to repeat again and again. Thank you all for your kind comments. ~Willa (WVSunbird)

  • Thanks for sharing! I'll keep a look-out for this one.

  • Thanks to all who've posted comments here. Kathy Mattea is one of the truest, most evolved folks I've ever known, who lives her life with an open heart. If you love her in this, you ought to check out her more recent work. Her last two CDs ("Roses" and "Right Out of Nowhere") are superb examples of beautiful music that touches the spirit. Kathy makes her work an extension of her own heart. (continued in next comment)

  • this song made me cry when I first heard it and it still does...LOL! I love Kathy Mattea, her music and voice moves me deeply

  • enmaxus, listening to this song makes me tear up also. Thoughts of old friends and former loves flood my memory....incredible song.

  • 1:30, the woman with the frizzy hair is my aunt Joni.

  • A wedding ring means nothing as far as the song goes, I am married and have been for 10 years, I have friends I have missed and people who meant a lot to me that I let pass by.

  • This song tells a story of life that most of us go thru without even realising until it is way too late. That's the sad, sad state of so-called modern life.Heard the CD version by Don Williams before, it was great so is Kathy's in this video clip.TQ for sharing.

  • this has always been one of my favorite songs.

  • I have not heard this before.. just great what a voice

  • This song is so beautiful. The video would make a little more sense if she wasn't wearing a wedding ring.

  • God how I miss the people in my life that have gone on so much.

  • love the song and video she did a great job recently found a don williams cd with this son on it but like her version better

  • thank you for sharing this wonderful song.

  • This song makes me remember those gone out of my life. It brings tears to me when I hear it. Kathy is so lovely here.

  • Wow. I had completely forgotten about this song. Thank you so much for posting this! An amazing song by a amazing singer (who's quite beautiful as well).

  • This is one of my absolute favorites of Kathy Mattea! Beautiful and soulful song....great message behind it too. Thanks for posting it!

  • Visually astounding & the song is undoubtedly one of her BEST - so nostalgic, sad, & true - it'll make you want to cry.

  • my thanks as well - i love this song - i'm so happy to be able to see the video again - i wish it had garnered a larger audience - everyone should have a chance to hear it

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful vid of Kathy! Puts a tear in my eye, everytime I see it!!

  • You're so welcome...my sentiments exactly! Turn yourself on to other Kathy Mattea work. She is a super-talent who is also an incredibly warm and wonderful human being. I am addicted to the way I feel when I listen to Kathy's music, and going to one of her intimate concerts feeds my spirit for weeks afterward. I am deeply grateful for her!
