Actually, its dangerous if people are crowding the exits. But as long as there is no rush and people sitting or standing have a good grip on the handles and their centre of gravity is well within the train, its probably OK. When we were teens it was great fun to sit by the door and watch the scenery go by and feel the country breeze. Wouldn't recommend it for someone too young or anyone not alert.
