Not to sound like my own parents sounded to me, BUT, 45's were amazing. Back in them days you had the anticipation of hearing the song. You had to be careful when placing the needle on the vinyl. This created such respect for the medium. YOu get your songs immediately now, and I love that, as well. Still, it was magic back then.
How can your religion be contained in your DNA? Defies logic really. There is no such thing as a religious child, only religious parents. A child wouldn't decide upon the value of Judaism as a natural course of its development. This stands for any religion.

I lived in Liberia in 68-71 and this song was on the moneybus record player. Anyone who has lived there knows what I am talking about. I was a reggae fan waiting to be born and born I was. First heard this on vacation with my parents in summer of 69, driving into Chicago. Still can picture the northwest suburbs as we heard this - connected in my childhood history but absolutely no connection otherwise.
This is a really cool song. I remember when it hit the radio waves everyone was trying to sing along, but no one knew the lyrics. I too am greatful for the posting of the song and the lyrics. The song must be about hardship. But what's with the 'israelites'? I'm Dutch. Therefore I have some knowledge about carribean culture, but I have no clue about this. Hoping some West Indian or Brit will enlighten me.

This is a wonderful song. Heard it the other day on 106.7 FM Golden Oldies. I hadn't heard it in decades. Couldn't get it out of my head. Glad I found it here on Youtube. Awesome voice and definitely has a message. This is what I call REAL music!!!! Still fantastic after 40 years!!!

I lived in Liberia in 68-71 and this song was on the moneybus record player. Anyone who has lived there knows what I am talking about. I was a reggae fan waiting to be born and born I was. Any "kids" my age that went to the American School in Monrovia back then? (I am 56, Embassy affilliated, lived in Congotown) .So many moneybus songs...so many memories!

This is a really cool song. I remember when it hit the radio waves everyone was trying to sing along, but no one knew the lyrics. I too am greatful for the posting of the song and the lyrics. After all these years of digging the hell out of this classic, I finally now know what the actual lyrics are. Manceuk, thank you for posting the song & the words (boy did I have the words all mixed up - lol).Everytime I hear this song with that classic & unique background,I can't get over how much heart & soul Desmond Dekker poured into this recording.
