i use the pinky a lot, too, but i figured out that it's better for pentatonik stuff to use middle and ring finger; mainly when you do lot's of bendings and legato stuff and these fingers will always stay stronger than pinky;

He just does not use it much past the 12th fret except for wide stretches some sweep shapes or occasionally the 1,2,5 pattern, thats pretty common. His biggest influences (solo wise) are Yngwie, Randy Rhoads and Zakk Wylde all of whom use this technique too, nothing particularly unusual or wrong about it really. As long as its not because you CANT use your pinkie and are still using it normally before the 12th fret then its fine.

Using the standard pre 12th fret technique can limit some licks.

If your in America I'd suggest the Alexi Laiho 600 which is around $1200, use the rest to buy and EMG 81 or a Seymour Duncan Blackout because the EMG hz sucks.
