This scene makes me cry every time. Pacino playing a man having a mental break.... it's brilliant, like everything else he does. I agree with others here, NO WAY he should have lost the Oscar for Dog Day Afternoon, which is the most complete and brilliant character ever created IMO. He should have won for the phone scene alone. What a sin.
Scene so beautiful it rips your heart out....a scene with Al and Gene.... it just had to happen. Great, Underrated film...right up there with "One Flew over a Cuckoos nest" "Midnight Cowboy" and "Mean Streets" If only we had more filmmakers from the 70's!
@stephie4066 Go Figure...A lot of great actors were screwed over at the oscars...Pacino for Godfather 1 and 2, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Scarecrow etc
Robert De Niro for Mean Streets,Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter...Dustin Hoffman for Midnight Cowboy and Lenny. Pacino was screwed over the most imo.
This scene is great, but I havent seen the movie yet.Could someone tell me what exactly happens in this scene?Ive just read something about it in a book about Al Pacino. There was written that Francis' baby died and after he heard of that he has a terrible nervous breakdown.
That hurts my feelings...I believe your country is the one renowned for its homoeroticism. So why don't you go and play with your 300 bum boys Mario, and let OmegaRing fight his own battles...
Awesome scene. Personally, my favorite scene was the "Distracting the cashier" one. That sent me into hysterical giggles. If you know what I'm talking about.
@babybirl009 Pacino maybe he don't like do movie like this any more not meaning al pacino he can't act NO. he is greatest actor ever and another thing about the script's not like before the proplem not with al but with the script's
Great mostly forgotten movie from the real golden era of American cinema in the '70s. The setting is Detroit's Scott Fountain on Belle Isle, where I used to go when I was a kid.
This is my favorite scene in the movie. The scene alone is a perfect example of Al Pacino's genius. Both Hackman and Pacino are excellent together but it is Pacino's that gives the command performance and this scene is a true testament of the colossal range of his acting prowess.

This brings tears to my eyes...and shows me what a fantastic actor Al is.
This hurts me so much, this scene.
Its loveable at first,but then.
Hard to watch. But shows the brilliant acting.

I believe tha Al isn't appreciated as much
as he should. He only won one oscar,
but i believe he should've won at least three:
godfather,dog day afternoon,scarecrow,insomnia,
scarface,devil's advocate...
TheOmegaRing 2 years ago 9
You accidentally said devil's advocate

Yeah, so?

P.s You're a cunt.

Just because you're an asshole
and a cunt, it doesn't mean
that we are all cunts.
TheOmegaRing 2 years ago 2
That's very true...but you are.
tomiguess 2 years ago
Why are you calling him a cunt?
He didn't say anything to you.
You are an asshole indeed,
so shut the fuck up
and don't post again here.

Mario - Now you're a cunt, asshole...Sorry I made your boyfriend cry but don't be a little bitch whining about it.
tomiguess 2 years ago
Yeah, i don't even know the guy.
I'm talking about you.
Besides, how can you talk about boyfriends
when you are English?
That makes you automatically gay!!!
And stop busting other people's balls.

Good movie.
I had some laughs!
That was a good scene,
but why pacino didn't react
when he heard that his kid
was dead(payphone scene)?
mariomiska 2 years ago
he tried to pretend the kid was alive(which he was) but it didn't work.
