  • hahaha hehehee im a laughin gnome and u cant catch me :D

  • Had this song on cassette in my car at all times as a teenager for insurance purposes. In the event of a bad acid trip, I could play it to remedy the situation.

  • @Mcgoo66 hahahaha nice one! i watched the matrix on acid,i almost never came back.

  • Good Lord, its Anthony Newley with money...

  • @bobbydylanio You'll get gnome mates with that attitude. It's a great piece of writing, right up there with Gnome Chomsky.

  • remember this allways used to be played on radio 1 when i was kid back in the seventies. think its an old track from his sixties days though, great stuff m got it on cd!!

  • I have the original single but no sleeve for it

  • im a fuckin laughin kgnome nothin speshul

  • Hey, he was 19 years old...a kid. I was a HUGE David Bowie in my teens...ANY Bowie I could get my hands on. When I found this song, I felt like I knew him because I knew a song NO ONE else had ever heard of.

  • This is the only Bowie 45 I ever bought!

  • OH>MY>GOTH! XDD Love David Bowie.

  • Me & the hubby heard this on radio 2 the other day in the car...we laughed all the way thru...fab 'gnome-isms' ...& I can't believe it's David Bowie!

  • I know (hopefully) that David was still singing some of his early songs before retiring but when is the last time he sung the Laughing Gnome if you know?

Read this in a BBC trivia:

"When Bowie suggested that his fans should vote via phone which tracks he should play for his 1990 world tour, The Laughing Gnome was the most requested. He didn't play it. "

  • This was actually a top 10 single in the UK

  • I LOVE this!!! I haven't heard this for YEARS!!!! Thank u sooo much!!! It's CUUUTTE!!! :}:}

  • Rare? Mind you i suppose it would be rare on a bing crosby album!

  • HA HA HA ! HI HI HI xD

  • I LOVE WIERD SONGS AND DAVID BOWIE.

    THIS SONG IS EPIC.

  • Comparing this to Thursday's Child or Hallo Spaceboy...

    Just...

    How?

  • Actually... it isn't rare...

But I do love it! Bowie can act like a drunken retard and get away with it - lol.

  • I love this old song.

  • That is a badass backbeat, gnome sayin?

  • HELL YEAH!

  • Try the original Gnome Song! It's Not Much Fun Being A Gnome.

  • my dad always used to play it to me when i was little girl and he was playing it in the car one day on a cassette and i thought i would listen to it and it makes me laugh :) i love it

  • My boys love this song lol

  • this song is funny. it's david bowie singing with himself

  • I recently purchased this song on eBay. I love this song, its just such fun and not to be taken so seriously. Thanks for uploading.

  • wasn't this his 1st ever single release? and did he invent the chipmunks?

  • His laughing towards the end is so cute xD

I love David Bowie, I don't care WHAT the song is!

  • What's that clicking sound? That's Fred. He's a Mexican!

  • Metronome

  • @Satters I prefer Mexican because it reminds me of jumping beans. Ahh, relegate me to the funny misheard lyrics page. Along with chug-a-lug Ssstrawberry red, it's makin' me crazy. Yes, I now know what the real lyrics are, but I can't help singing along this way.

  • all the stupid ppl that think this is the 60 yer mad he had it in the charts in 1973 went 2 no 6

  • @999dredd And point in case - you are all mouth and no knowledge. This was released in 1967. Crawl back into your box.

  • Thank God it's rare.

  • I love this and I remember it from the 60s great little song

  • Kyuut!!^^ rofl! luv bowie!:}

  • Cute :)

  • love bowies 60's stuff

  • I'm sure Bowie would like to thank you for keeping this song from being forgotton. I mean you wont ever hear him play this song tlive.....

  • @kaninz He was in The Labyrinth. I don't think he lost his sense of humor.

  • @RigoKellerColas In Labyrinth he had to do the gurgling of the baby on the song Dance Magic and behind the scenes he said about it, what the hell, he'd done Laughing Gnome, and he added he never thought in 20 years he'd come back to working with gnomes, LOL!

  • David Bowie has a deli in his house?

  • too cute (:

  • classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT

  • Dear god...

  • How I remember it as as a kid. I love it. SWEET

  • Try playing this song nonstop from the start of the party all the way to the the morning. BEST PARTAY EVAH!

  • Fucking adorable! Especially when he laughs at the end. How did this idea come to him??

  • @SpaceOddity38 Maybe the Laughing Policeman? Idk though, that's just an innocent guess.

  • Love the way he cracks up at the end :D

  • One of his worst? BS on that...it shows his humor and willingness to not take himself so seriously that I hope he never lost.

  • its awsome

  • This is one of the most delightful little gems from David Bowie's late 60s music.

    I love this to bits!

  • Happy Birthday Bowie!

  • the song is pretty brilliant really

  • es tan excelente como todos

  • random but funny song one of bowies worst songs aparantly

  • My son had a little plastic Gnome toy.He used to love trying to catch the Gnome while i made it run around for him. Also he was in the early stages of speaking,i have a great recording of him trying to recite the song, but it is a bit back to front in places. He was only about 2 and a half to 3 years old

  • cool the kids love it

  • I haven't heard this for years! Thank you for posting. It's hilarious.

  • I seem to recall that in the original video he was all done up in his Aladdin sane gear with a garden gnome. Thanks for posting the song.

  • Fi'Gnome'j ???

  • David Bowie was actually embarrassed by this song. I don't blame him, but we wouldn't be without it. Good on you, Bowie!

  • @domparis1978 Can't say I blame him, I wouldn't own up to doing it if it was me, but I still love it!

  • It's time for a new Rick Roll! Still not as awkward as the Love You Till Tuesday video.

  • F*CKIN EPIC HAHAHA xD

    Bowie <3

  • I heard it's him who did the gnome's voice hahaha xD

  • cool

  • shite

  • Epic lol

  • Tab anyone got one?

  • Better and more talented than Stairway To Heaven and Fool's Overture...

This is the purest of true talent.

  • ha ha i love it me n my sis used to dance n sing to this bk in the 80s classic x

  • Good song. This is one song you should hear on the radio.

  • hehehehe... Well, it was on the radio quite a lot in 1973

    :)

  • Gnomes are evil

  • This song is great!

  • cocaine can do strange things to your brain.

    :P

    this song is great.

  • this was way before the cocaine...... but yes, it is great, and cocaine really can do starnge things to your mind... try TVC15 by bowie... XD if you listen carefully, its almost as mad as this...XXDD

  • I'd pay an obscene amount of money to hear him do this live.

  • im'e 17 and i know this song lol the gnome is soooo sweet and it's quite catchy lol =P xxx

  • I'm 14 its great though i'd prefer it without the highpitched talking gnome....Still AMAZING!

  • I saw him on TOTP2 but not sure how to get hold of a copy...

  • thank God for this

  • Has anyone got the film footage they showed with this on Top of the Pops?

  • I remember it. It had a gnome at the bottom of his bed if I recall correctly. Classic.

  • i remember that! there must be somewhere we can find it??

  • This kind of song could have killed a potential career in music, at least in the US. You'd run the risk of always being relegated to novelty music. Although in the 60's, i can see why this might be taken more seriously. Interesting song though.

  • true... it is an unusual song lol

  • @SaganAppreciationSoc ... Spot on mate. Deram records, a subsiduary of Decca, re-released this track around '74/'75 . RCA records and Bowie saw this as a career damaging threat , because at that time Bowie was the hottest act on the planet.

PS..Loved Carl Sagan too..Still have the Cosmos on hardback..and the DVD Boxed set. Thanks for posting, Finomej.

  • @johnmckinlay67

Always nice to meet another Saganista. If you'd like to get Sagan news updates, find our email address on my youtube page.

  • @SaganAppreciationSoc

It is a song made for children,I think.

I got it immediately as a child, and many people of my generation still love it!.

In the 90's,some journalists actually came around ,and tried to petition Bowie to include it in his live act.

    With no success.lol.

Actually,it is all part of the Bowie persona,of being a chameleon, but also,I like to think that he was just trying to record an honest to goodness novelty song.He succeeded.

  • Brilliant

  • I absolutly love this song the gnome is so cute!
