I love macaronic songs, and this is wonderfully sung. Thanks for putting this up- I never would have encountered the Highland Sessions if it weren't for the courtesy of those who have put it up on youtube.
Superb - I love this series - The Gaels of both cultures are a force of nature that isn't easily rivaled - There are historical changes between us of course and I despise the usual political commentry that comes with you tube - but it's obvious and plain that Eire agus Alba are the only living testiment today of a Celtic past - of course I stand to be corrected.
There's my old chum Neil Johnstone on the cello. I knew him when he had hair! He was the star cellist in the 3 orchestras I played in as a schoolboy. Good to see him carve out a trad niche for himself not common among cello players in my experience.
*pant, puff* Can hardly stop dancing long enough to post...wah!! Very, very cool, helsr, that you had her for a music teacher. Just one of the souls on this earth who create beauty and inspiration for all.
Yes, her book A HIDDEN ULSTER: PEOPLE SONGS AND TRADITIONS OF ORIEL (Four Courts Press, c2003), Song 23 (pages 179-80) include words in Irish and English.
I had the great pleasure of been thought by this woman for three whole years in primary school she is amazing and thought us to read music @ the age of 4 before we could read words, always singing a very very talented woman

It's so refreshing to hear traditional music performed with subtlety and art. Sadly, it seems very rare these days.
