Hey can you send me the tab? Actually... I am looking to pay someone for that lesson from Berklee, the BB King one that is super popular, I would honestly pay you to tab that. Thanks Sean
Dude, this is a good tutorial, but it would have been so much easier with some tabs! Sure, you can see what you're playing, but you have to watch it through a couple of times and try to find where the notes are taken instead of just reading the tabs and let the video tell us how to play them. That's my opinion.
Something amazing about the way that john plays, is that he didnt use alot of effects for continuum!!Its simple but he gives it alot of feeling by the way i played it..
everyone who watches these videos or feels that they need this to SOUND like john or Play like him....need to rethink their process....for god sakes, listen to Continuum and figure out the solo for urself!!! its more rewarding than copying it from this video.......ull seee
I completely agree. Often times I find these videos helpful when using them as reference for a lick, but sacrificing all creativity and playing note for note is cheating yourself.
I found this extremely helpful. I was always an acoustic girl but now I'm learning electric and if you have a good ear, which I do, you gave a great lesson. Thank you. Wish you showed your face...you sound super cute :)
well ofcourse he exspects that, its so easy! the only reason you cant do that is becouse you cant really play guitar, so then you shouldnt even try this solo....
Markyang, you might want to learn the notes on the guitar neck before attempting anything John Mayer. Not trying to be an asshole bit it'll take forever to tell which fret every individual note is on. A good rule of thumb though when you're playing where he is, is that every note you play on the 12th fret is the same note as that string. So you can just learn the notes around the 12th fret
wow imagine someone hoping you can actually copy so0mething in slow motion when you are staring straight at the fretboard and listening to him tell you EXACTLY what to do! No offense, man, I would normally let these kinds of things go, but honestly, what more could you want? He's not gonna tell you the fret for EVERY single note in the solo. That would be a 47 minute long video for fuck's sake. If you know the pentatonic scale, it's pretty easy to follow this.
I basically went straight into the computer via a cheap soundcard and added a spring reverb plug-in! All the tone comes from the Seymour Duncan Neck Position Humbucker. I also use Dunlop Jazz 3 Plectrums which are very hard!
Hi inthenude145, after the initial solo is played at speed, the solo is disected and played slowly with reference to all the frets and notes played. No tab needed!
good video - but when u play slow and bend the notes it confuses the shit out of people

Great tutorial but the two note slide just after 2:28 shold be A and C (fret 14 on G, fret 13 on B).
KCVolcom 2 years ago 2
He does doe play an A and a C though. just in different position. How he plays it is also into the scale aswell, makes it easier
Eddbeard1 2 years ago
Of course, but for the sake of correctness, you can hear in the song that it's a different voicing..

This tutorial is not good.
you don't explain which frets the notes are on. you just play it slowly and expect us to understand it. its a good solo but just bad explanations.

He says the notes, study D minor pentatonic and watch it again.
