@moonlightshadow1122 No, I'm dead serious. It seems so out of place. Serious song about female subjugation...and then mimes...? When I first hear this song, the production had altered the line to "keep pretending it's fine", and I thought the number was very strong. Then I heard the CD and actually laughed out loud when they got to the real lyric.

*NOTE* In April of 2005, the show was revised slightly. During "Learning to be Silent" Ariel sings with Vi and Ethel during the song.
