  • I thought martial artists were supposed to retain form during real fights? I thought real brawlers were supposed to have more power than these guys. Clearly these people are neither martial artists nor have real fighting experience...so who are these guys? A REAL martial artist trains for years to win a fight in one hit, yet these guys swing their arms and legs like the bully down the street.

  • @iJigglypuff do you know what is real fight?only 10 years old boy can belivie in real fight he can win with one hit..if it was that much easy today everybody could be master.real fight is about pain hard punches and kicks and grapling

  • @iJigglypuff This was the first full contact competition in like 60 years. The last one before that got people killed and many more permanently disabled and resulted in a ban on full contact fighting.

Thus none of the competitors actually have any experience in this kind of competitions.

You cant win a fight in one hit. It doesnt work that way. No matter what you train if you NEVER have had the opportunity to be even in a sparring match you cant pull off one-hit wins from thin air.

  • Also, remember that they did not have mouthpieces or gloves. Bare knuckles on teeth and no experience. Damage guaranteed.

  • thats real kung fu not the fucking light contact point sparring they have now

  • How gay

  • This shit gotta come back.

It's part of our culture! for at least 4000 years man!

  • Awesome sanda fights man

  • It is so strangely entertaining when midgets fight!?

  • its almost like DBZ fighting when they fight in that arena!

  • This is like DBZ tournament in less realistic

  • Although this is a traditional competition. Rules still exist. Alot of REAL traditional fights are using techniques that are really meant to kill. Therefore its not really a good protray of Chinese kung fu. Well leitai during the early 20th century usually last less than a min and casualty is high. When that happens, it doesn't make much of a good show but then again kung fu wasn't meant to be a show. Its meant to survive and kill in ancient times.

  • LOL. That's a good joke.

  • @himalayanspirit Hahahaa :D That was funny! First of, UFC is an organization, not a sport. The sport is called MMA. Stands for Mixed Martial Arts. Sorry, just tired of americans thinking UFC is the only thing out there. It's like calling a computer Microsoft or a hamburger McDonalds.

2nd: Even trained for or been in a MMA fight? If you had you would know that they probably wouldn't land a single one of those bar-swings on a well trained MMA fighter.

    Love comments from schoolyard-fighters. :)

  • Real fighters don't come to youtube to debating fighting. Therefore you are also a "schoolyard-fighter" until proven otherwise.

  • @IwarRobin not these guys wont but a well trained kung fu person can beat MMA fighter simply becuz they have been doing it forever and they perfected that skill im not sayin they will dominate the fight cuz they might lose i dont know... but bare in mind they train killing methods and perform at peak human capabilities MMA is more about training for the next fight or jus improving ur current skills

  • @KBrizle as in there is more entertainment to it but this is their life since a very young age (not saying it isnt for MMA fighters) but i persume these guys are what u call the perfect human weapon and note i said weapon cuz they dont practise knock out methods they kill.. :) anyway i get ur view but i still believe they could really dominate MMA

  • @IwarRobin as in there is more entertainment to it but this is their life since a very young age (not saying it isnt for MMA fighters) but i persume these guys are what u call the perfect human weapon and note i said weapon cuz they dont practise knock out methods they kill.. :) anyway i get ur view but i still believe they could really dominate MMA but they never would cuz its against the shoalin code etc.

  • @himalayanspirit

no way. they dont even protect their faces.

  • the 2nd pair/fight...the way each kick into each other must be hurt. I bet both guys have bruises on their stomach and leg for sure.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching it.

  • @karoneprincess1 it's actually impossible to get a bruise on your stomach =], but yah, i can't imagine taking a straight on kick that hard on the stomach and still be able to stand up much less keep fighting. these guys are insane

  • he..he..

  • I think it's kind of interesting that these fights do look a lot like the modern san shou contests, just in somewhat more "raw" form. Nice to see the evolution there. Too bad the early 20th century lei tai matches aren't recorded, though.

  • I noticed that whenever kf guys fight for real (at least of the northern variety), the fight "degenerates" into kicks and shuai-chiao (wrestling). I guess the reason is not that these fighters are low-quality, as many seem to imply, but that this IS what northern kung-fu looks like in a fight. And the fact that their handwork is weak as uncomparable to western boxing - well, is that such a surprise?

  • no, its not surprising that their hand work is weak compared to western boxers, but thats because every martial artist in the world has weak hands compared to a professional western boxer. Boxers only train there hands.....all the time. I train traditional Northern Shaolin Long Fist and, while some of these fighters have a fine amount of skill, they are not the pentacle of their arts. The guy on the left in the first fight effectively snuffs his enemy's charges and even side-steps to evade.

  • That's pretty much my point - some people seem to expect them to "box" each other, while missing some of the other skills that are in play (eg fanzi-style slapping). I for example appreciate the "shuais" as I like wrestling.

Also I'm quite tired of people saying "this isn't the real kung-fu" and "these guys are fake"...well then, when are we finally going to see the real mccoy?

  • haha its not that this is not the "real" kung fu. If I went into an Muay Thai gym or a Judo school and watched the students there spar then that would be "real". The issue is that people compare the practitioners in this video to UFC fighters and professional boxers. You cant compare professional fighters of one style or field to amateurs in another

  • leitan desnudo

    jajajajajajajajajajajajajajjajajajajajajajajaç

    leitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmm

  • thats because this isnt a movie and these fighters clearly have very limited experience actually fighting. This can be seen the way that their techniques clash regularly as both of the fighters fail to predict and then adapt the their opponents moves.

  • this doesn't look like the martial arts in the movies... its like a cat fight. bitch slaps everywhere... damn...

  • Erm...no fight ever looks like martial arts in the movies...because these are choreographed and just for show. What you see is what it looks like when the pressure is for real.

  • If I remember correctly. This is just after the period when they banned sparring right? I wish we had vids of the 1933 national comp..

  • laughing the shit out of myself watching the second fight

  • MMA is not "A" martial art, its styles brought together. So how would one beat MMA, when one is using wrestling, punching, kicking and joint locks from different systems? Chinese gungfu is mma. We use all the 4 p, k, wrestle, and bone breaks!

  • MMA is just an Sporting event. You really can't combine 2 MA philosophys. The problem is that the complete knowledge of techniques of a style has been lost either intentionally or because of the desire to follow a more sportive direction ex: modern shiai karate compare to traditional, or judo compare to the old jujutsu.See karate has throws just like judo has strikes, but each one is particular, in karate you don't throw over the hips, in judo blows are not rigid or solid like karate's

  • Wow. I think I've heard more interpretations of Bruce Lee's work than I have of the bible.

That reaction without thought concept: isn't that what martial artists have been striving towards for centuries? Mr. Lee was brilliant, but he didn't invent that. And as far as kung fu working or not, you just need to break down the forms and practice the techniques for a real time fight. You've GOT TO. There's no way just doing complex movements will make you a good fighter.

  • when things get desperate, out come the haymakers..

  • oh yeah real affective Kung fu is great and can beat all other type of martial arts and MMA, well i guess you'd die from laughter ....so it's kinda lethal

  • haha... im pretty sure Kung fu is useless against an unorthodox fighter who reacts and doesn't rely on rules to guide his fighting, I.E. Bruce Lee, felt kung fu had too many rules thats why he created his own style.

  • Bruce Lee felt that every style had too many rules.

  • I think he probably didn't like the cultish and religious element of chinese martial arts, and probably also thought there wasn't enough room for personalization. What's interesting though is that if you watch videos of him training with his students, they all seem to look like him, or try to. I'm sure there's some idiosyncracies, but then it's really no different from any other martial art. It's only natural to try to imitate the teacher, but equally natural to unavoidably express yourself.

  • bruce lee took the underlying concepts of martial arts, the style he created was not a style but a a concept whereby no style was exibitted. just an expression of the person. but he still adhered to rules that made each concept work.

for exaple he took the stance, sensitivity traing from wing chun. but you still have to adhere to certain principles for it to work. by doingg this, a thought process was eliminated form an atack, creating an unthinking natural flowing reaction.

  • Bitch slaps are effective...

  • People who said bitch slaps aint effective are very dumb, because a well performed bitchslap on your ear can make your deaf. They are really effective.

  • Is that what you think, that these guys are trying to make eachother deaf? Someone special might be the very dumb one here.

Besides, it's also effective to throw sand in the eyes, kick in the groin, punch the throat but you don't see that in martial/fighting arts, for different reasons.

  • I said bitch slapping IS effective I didnt say IT IS NOT effective. I said a bitchslap CAN make some one deaf if you give it on his ear. I think you're the dumbass here because you cannot read properly. Learn to read first before you comment.

  • le tai fighting is awesome, i'm thinking of starting it.

  • while all of you experts run your mouths. did you take notice that they don't wear pads, gloves or helmets. lets see just how long all of you grand masters of typing do in this kind of situation

  • The guys in this video suck. Teddy Atlas could teach them how to really throw down.

  • None of these fighters could throw a single good punch. All of these fighters had their hands down and chin sticking way up. Where's the defence? No blocks, no parrys and no lateral movement. All martial arts should do themselves a favor and take up boxing to help suppliment their training. You'll be amazed at how boxing helps you with your balance, foot work, cardio, hand/eye cordination and reaction speed. Its also a lot easier to kick when you have a solid hands to set them up with.

  • at least they can throw.

  • I never said anything about their throwing skills. I'm a judo player so I like thier thowing abilities. I just thought that these fighters had very sloppy punching and kicking skills.

  • It's a style of punching. It might look sloppy but they're swinging type of hits. I don't know if you notice but I think.. the punches are timed and aimed either to hit the face or to use as a throw maybe? As for kicking It's not that bad just they give up themselves too much at least they aim somewhere like the leg or abdomen. etc etc

    haha Just a thought.

  • brawling where is the skill

  • Que feo pegaban..

  • why not call it wushu?wushu means methods of fighting..

  • that's real fighting

  • Any real fighter should know that the only way to know what the skill is truly like is to get in there toe to toe. also fights change depending on who you are up against. and so if u think these guys are fake, imagine yourself on the receiving end on one these blows bare knuckle from a guy who punched sandbags n cement, running up mountains, doing horsestances till dawn 24/7 n who aint scared for shit, but who only looks like a geeky Asian from a distance. I think id trust em in a streetfight.

  • well said

  • @doink3

Yeah i immagine myself fighting them and i would fuck them up because I'm a fighter and I also train 24/7 and i way better than that. It's better to train correctly during 2 hours than training bad during 10 hours.

  • @Caca51m each time you pull ur cock, wrap all ur fingers around it, u've obviously never done any martial arts u knt.

  • @doink3 shut the fuck up. they wouldn't win against jiu jitsu or wrestling. fucking idiot.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord dude , yeah doink3 kinda exaggerated but i doubt some white trash mma fighter would win.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord who da fuck cares? they're not trying to put up an mma show, every fucken time someone posts a video on youtube about martial arts there is always the usual retard going "bjj or mma is better" ...congrats today's retard award goes to you

  • @BareseMaledetto Ah I see. You were involved in MMA but got broken down completely and currently your stuck in a wheelchair for life with all that anger. Smh. Go kill yourself bro. Don't direct that anger at me you stupid fuck.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord you got a pretty good imagination for a clinically retarded child

  • @BareseMaledetto Are you are clinically retarded because of the stint at MMA? Smh. I think its best to seek additional help with RESTRICTED internet access. There is no telling that what I could say to you could lead to you killing yourself because you are just too stupid. Its okay man. Don't give up. Stupid people are alive and well afterall.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord Look dude i'm not gonna do the whole back and forth thing here because I happen to be the kinda guy who thinks arguing with a retard online and the special Olympics have a lot in common. I mean wtf are you even talking about? R u a crackchild or something?

  • @BareseMaledetto Look dude if you are in the special olympics I respect that. But you being retarded isn't good for your health. YOU NEED HELP AND QUICK. Stop skipping your damn drugs and get off the internet faggot. Geez. Motherfuckers.

  • @BareseMaledetto Stupid dumbfuck. Nothing to say now huh? Get more of those meds stupid sorry ass nigger.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord lol dude I just looked at your profile, you're probably a chubby little albino dude with a mental disability who plays video games all day, the fact you even know how to spell "fight" is impressing. Go ahead keep on making an ass out of yourself : )

  • @BareseMaledetto This is my little brother's profile I'm using dumbfuck. Did you finally escape the mental clinic? Smh. Are you really that stupid? GO BACK SON! ROFLMAO! GO BACK MR "I WAS NOT GONNA REPLY TO YOU AND I DID BECAUSE I AM A DUMBFUCK".

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord ahahahahah thats such BULLSHIT, why wouldn't you have your own profile? One thing is being retarded another is blame your younger brother for the gay ass profile you got. Tell you what I'm bored with you so why don't you fill up the following questionnaire to stfu:

1- where you dropped over your head as a child

    2-are your parents cousins?

3-how did you manage to survive an abortion?

4-aren't you afraid that if you get any gayer you're gonna be a lesbian?

  • @BareseMaledetto Dude I don't feel sorry for you. No. I feel sorry for your parents. I feel sorry for your whore of a mom who couldn't do shit but she atleast tried her best. I feel sorry for your dead beat dad who brought you into this world when you were better off not existing. Its not too late dude lol. Give the doc a call. Hell... google "retarded kids hotline". Its NOT TOO LATE BRO. ROFLMAO!!!!! Hahaha.

  • @doink3 lol look geeky Asian from distance, and people start putting their defense down... ;P

  • @dimka124

after or while we squashed you???

    sry for my grammar

  • ive never seen a kungfu swing his arm like a hooligan!

  • And where did you learn about Kung Fu from, Shaw Bros. movies or actual fact?

  • i learn from Phoenix Eye Fists...which is resembles like Wing Chun-Bruce Lee's wushu!

  • this is fuckin stupid if it where real fighting they would just let them go at it and the last one standing would win

  • i practice western boxing and sambo ,you right bruce lee is a legend but the real deal is mma people like fedor, noguiera, klichko, lewis, badr hari,rampage,silva....and many more

  • One thing that you need to realize dimka is that it isn't just about fighting. That is something a lot of us in the west don't understand. Martial arts is practically a theology, its about disciplining all aspects of your life. UFC fighters age, their muscles and reactions diminish, true martial arts are about the Way and developing the complete individual. Practical? Maybe not to you, but when you realize there is more to it than fighting life becomes much more fulfilling.

  • In internet you pretend to be a man, huh?

  • holy crap what a crock of bullshite. but its like a train wreck, you just cant pull your eyes from it.

  • this is disgracing my country okay...i wanna beat this commentator up, this guys is talking so much shit

  • come on,the answer is unquestioned, heres nothing to quarrel.keep peace ok?

  • train in Chengdu 8 1 35 3379

  • "Fighters" generally don't fight enough to use what they practice efficiently. Many Kung Fu styles are highly effective, but most who practice them tend to forget or just simply don't know what to do in the situation of a real fight because a lot of them don't understand the nature of real fighting and everything that goes in it; time, space, and energy variations.

Also, most fighters you ever see from the 1900's to now are very passive in terms of "moving forward" and "intercepting" the enemy

  • The sad thing is, when they do walk through the first step, "interception", they end up relying solely on instinct instead of what they've been trained in, resulting in a sloppy brawl. The timing is too fast and their bodys' aren't trained to react in that kind of situation, so they either end up "grabbing", "trading strikes", or "taking hits".

  • "Fear" is a major issue in fighting nowadays. The reason why people who train in striking styles end up "grabbing" is because of "fear", you see it all the time. That is why fights are taken to the ground so much now, making it a requirement for UFC/MMA fighters to learn ground fighting.

  • In my truest and honest opinion, I dont think a real fighter should have to fight on the ground. Ground fighting is popular now because stand up fighting especially Kung Fu in general is too complicated and requires way too much skills for the modern person. To achieve that ability is just too hard for the modern person, not because we are born weaker, but because of our modern societies in which we live in.

  • That is why people just learn what they think is practical; styles like thai boxing and ground fighting(ie. jujitsu) is the best choice for that purpose. Real fighting skill is starting to become extinct.

  • I think that what we see in Kung Fu films nowadays really portray what real Kung Fu fighting was like back then, minus all the flying wire effects.

Because I'm assuming fighters back then generally didn't grab that much at all, if not, grappling and ground fighting would be a major section in Kung Fu. People didn't stoop to grabbing like what you see nowadays.

  • In Kung Fu films, they have to choreograph the reactions of both fighters; how they would intercept each other's strikes or dodge them.

All that choreography action directors in films have to do would have been natural to the fighters back then in real fighting, so what we see in movies I would say is the closest thing we get to "Realistic Kung Fu fighting", rather than saying that real fighting is what we see today.

  • Are you insane? To think that anything you see in martial arts films, especially the Chinese ones, would ever happen in a fight, and has ever happened in a fight is utterly ludicrous.

The entire reason behind those scenes looking the way they do is because they are a dance, there is no element of chaos. I think that if you went back in time, the real stuff would look much more raw and brutal than you would suspect.

  • I understand that real fighting itself is not as fancy as what you would see in a lot of kung fu films, but my point is that it probably was much more clean than what we see today especially when in the time where martial artists fighting was much more common than now, where protective gears and rules were at the minimum. Of course, it was even more brutal.

  • Perhaps, since there was more time for straight practice, but I still think that your claims of fighters in the past never grabbing and grappling is silly. Historically, wrestling came first as a fighting style in all cultures, so I doubt ancient fighters never grabbed each other.

  • Well grabbing in a sense of what a lot of top fighters do nowadays; to transition into ground fighting or wrestling.

There are wrestling in some kung fu styles, but not very common for the ultimate level of fighting isn't wrestling or ground fighting. I don't see the Top fighters(in media) today are at a very high level. UFC/MMA guys are strong, have good techniques and all, but that's what I consider more of an armature level.

  • Wow...now you've single-handedly shot down your own credibility. To call professionals who fight and train for a living amatuers, even amongst the best is absurd. The fact that you even think you know what the "highest level of fighting" is shows how little you know.

There isn't any superior technique, style, or approach.

  • There is in fact superior techniques and to think that there isn't is just a nice way to put it, so there won't be much discrimination between styles. These

"professionals" are good at playing their "games", but are mere amateurs at fighting. I don't care how much they train, it's what they're capable of that matters.

  • Don't you understand? How much you train intrinsicly relates to what you are capable of. If there was a superior method of fighting, one that reigned above all others, then wouldn't other fighting styles be extinct?

Come on now. Punching, kicking, or grappling don't work 100% of the time. There's an appropriate time and place for each, and calling professional fighters amatuers just makes you sound jealous and disgruntled. If you're so into traditional styles, study something called Wu De.

  • Unfortunately, what they spend their lives training for is not towards what they think they are training for, but simply a game. Their level of capability is of the game, not fighting.

  • 'Credibility'? You're arguing with someone who calls themselves 'ThePedoBrothers'.

  • Well, not arguing, this has been my first return to this thread in a month, I don't really care. I was just taken aback by Pedobrothers claims that there are "superior techniques" like this is some bad Gung Fu movie and that trained professional fighters aren't at a "high level". His claims of Chinese Gung Fu not having grappling are also silly as Shuai Jiao is one of the most ancient wrestling styles in the world, one of the most effective, and is present in every style of Gung Fu.

  • actually u were arguing, and a nice one too. i think what pedobrothers is trying to say is while ufc/mma fighters are plenty strong, and can knock someone out no problem outside a ring, they are still fighting within rules and such, compared to before where people used their gung fu to live. one good example is, not all...but most mma guys use takedowns as a transition to ground fighting, which usually lasts the duration of the round, instead of finishing the fight.

  • what the fuck kung fu is dancing not foghting, you telling abaut mma fighters and ufc wow you stupid i can own like 20 of your kunf fu gays in couple of minutes

  • It's different rules if you haven't noticed you dumb piece of shit. Also, I suggest you fix your grammar before you say something like "fogthing" "wow you stupid" "kunf fu" Get the fuck out of here you MMA douchebag.

  • sorry to interrupt but you seem to have a misconception. All MA hve a form of wrestling along their striking method & vice. versa. Sometimes is not easilly seen because one style or another prefers to be predominant in one particular skill i.e. jutsu prefers the grappling while kara-te prefers striking yet karate has throws & inmobilizations, true that they'r very particular to karate & don't resemble judo throws at all but they'r there

  • what happen in 1949?

  • Communists.

  • 00:42 I thought he was transforming into Super Saiyan

  • they should get a fighter from chengdu and another one from chongqing haha

  • 看了半天,leitai原来是不是单词而是一个拼音,faint!

  • Quite good figthing. It looks akward to people not used to the wild swings of soem long arm styles. Nonetheless these techniques are quite effective and hit like a motherf...Just cause its ugly and their guard is open doesnt mean they are not skilled. Kykukushin is ugly and their guard is open. Go challenge the kyukushin, choy lei fut etc,... and you will gain new insight into the possibilities in combat,

    Lorne

  • It's amazing when sanshou guys claim that their style is not influenced by muay thai. They alway say that sanshou has been part of kungfu since the begining yet these guys seem to have no ideal on how to fight. This fight is in China with chinese players yet it looks nothing like sanshou/sanda. If sanshou has been part of kungfu for a very long time then why are they not useing it in 1986.

  • Dude, do you even know how many different styles of Kung Fu are there? What does Sanda have that is similar to muay thai? Basic punches and round house kicks? I think a lot of martial arts have these basic moves.

  • Traditional styles have elbow strikes and knees strikes also. I don't know the reason why they aren't using. Rules? Haven't trained properly? Well I can warrant you that these techniques exists. I'm sorry. I feel disturbed about the low quality of these leitai fightings also. Yes I am a kung-fu practitioner. I think these fights are gay. Yes. Sometimes they look like street fighting. I can see the bitchslaps at the end of the video.

  • the only influence MT had on sanda is that they just took out similar techniques from their own systems and made it into one simplified competitive format. Ie roundhouse, punches, etc.

  • Don't know who you mean of sanshou, may be it is sanda which actually is chinese translation of kick boxing. Chinese traditional martial art don't have sanda or sanshou. You are right, and kick boxing are imported from outside of china.

  • sanshou is not a style sanshou just means free fighting in chinese wat ever tehcnique u learn for sanshou varies from different masters n regions but there is a government created program of sanshou thats for military n civilians

  • i agree with you judofan, this fight to me looks more like kung fu than sanshou or sanda fights which are very similar to kickboxing.Similar thing started to happen with karate and soon enough in came the JKA. and WKF. as well as some help from the IKO.basically karate was becoming kickboxing.Since i also am a practitioner of judo one thing i admire 'bout the sport is the fact that it still looks like jujutsu minus the striking offcourse.why can KF hve. fights that resemble their style?

  • There are rules. Unfortunately there hasn't been "real" fighting in CMA since 1949, and even that one was shit. Most people can agree that since the beginning of 19th century, the seclusion/isolation of practices/styles and less REAL fighting has contributed to CMA's demise.

  • @cloud0123 you are totally right, last year I heard that footage from the National Examinations appeared and the few that were allowed to watch it agre on this. The fighting was terrible. However we only need to look at how the UFC started and when compared with modern MMA fighters the difference is abyssmal. If the Chinese hadn't gone through the cultural revolution, who knows how much better they might have became.

  • well they seem pretty new to figthing, but at least have balls to do it

  • New? They are using traditional techniques as opposed to kick boxing which is rampant nowdays.

  • well some guys are more experienced than others, thats what I meant. But you a right, traditional is not kickboxing, eventhough if one can mixed them both you would be better striker, IMO, cheers

check this one too : Baji contest in Cangzhou 1988

  • 3:28-3:30, that is sweet.

  • funny kong fu
