55 mph descending the West side on Sunday, July 26th in 96 degree heat, 25lb bike, 185lb rider using aerobar tuck on 54cm frame. Two waterbottles and seat bag added drag. First ever descent of W side, so likely could improve on that.
Ahhh, you didn't take into consideration teh thin air. I did this descent again this year with minimal pedaling and achieved 56+ mph (58+ in this 2007 video.) I only wieght 139 lbs. with a 16 lb. bike. Aerodynamics plays a huge roll at these speeds on a bike. Thanks for your input though.
Umm yeah the top speed recorded going downhill is by a professional (I think sean kelly still holds it) who clocked 120km ph +. translates to about 75mph.
It's not down to weight but descending style and balls!
@Laserguy88 Hey Mofo. Maybe he is not talking about average speed. Mother fucker. Maybe he is talking about maxing out at 58 which is infinitely possible. Mother fucker. Learn to fucking think critically, not just mouthing criticisms out of your fuckn ass mother fucker
@SubUrbanHunter i heard the record for fast downhill speed on a bicycle is 135 Kilometers per hour which is 86.4 miles per hour. it was set in Colorado. that record since the last time i have check it out has been holding for seven years
Great Video of the west monitor descent - especially love the end - the left turn beginning the Ebbetts ascent! ACDC should be the official music of the Death Ride! Great endurance climbing training music!
Good eyes in picking up the bar tape! I will be posting the descents of both sides from Ebbetts when I get a chance to convert the video and post it. Check back in a week or so for the continuation of the adventure!
Awesome - it's great to see more and more objects being used to record video. In this case, clearly the video was recorded directly to a radish.

has anyone ever thought of using a Helmetcam? it cost more but it is way safer.

Better hope those roads are nice and clean. One flat tire could ruin your whole week.

It is safer when you descend in the drops.

58 mph No way in 15 lbs bike, unless the rider is 260 lbs and the frame is 50 cm.
Top speed for this ride is 54-56. Maybe in a tandem bike you could get to 58 mph.
48 - 50 mph is a more realistic speed.
