  • My last Cello teacher David Schepps took lessons from this guy =D

  • my god not another monster!!

  • He was by far the best sounding and masterful cellist of his day. You could eat off him, as we'd say.How nice to see this video.

    Bernie Zaslav

  • silence!

  • Grand violoncelliste français, digne représentant de l'école française du violoncelle.

    Elégant, racé. Apprécie énormément.

  • Great cellist, not doubting... but his Bach is not my cup of tea...

  • @thegreenjaguar Seriez-vous violoncelliste?

  • @nyphriscat Yes, I am.

  • Someone close to me took lessons from him and now he's passing on every thing he know's to me! Simply wonderful!

  • Someone close to me took lessons from him and now he's passing on every thing he know's to me! Simply wonerful!

  • Écouter Bach joué par Pierre Fournier c'est comme avoir l'impression de toucher à l'infini et se dire que l'univers a un sens.

  • Such a lovely piece. Those double stops are played marvelously.

  • amazing! so simple, egoless and so much dignity

  • Francois Guye a Cello player from Geneva,Suisse ownsone of Fournier's Cello's,you know the sound

    from

Guye plays masterffully in the Suisse - Romande Orch. It may be now he is retired?

In 1995 Francois gave a great solo recital in NYC

    of J.S.Bach's music.

  • Wow! I imprinted on Fournier's Archiv recordings of the Bach suites as a young cellist many years ago, but didn't know there was video. I still consider his recordings of the 5th and 6th suites definitive. I once listened to his recordings against others in a professional studio, and both the playing and the 1960 recording sound quality stood out.

  • one night i was randomly going through all the tv channels and i found this guy on a public access channel and i watched him play for like an hour... im not even really into this kind of music but he is a really good celloist

  • Never mind how much I try, I have never heard a finner interpertation of this piece. Thanks for posting.. I never tough I would be able to see him

  • Thanks for posting this - he was beyond compare. No need for showmanship - just impeccable musicianship of the very highest order...

  • wow... this is the best Bach I have ever heard

  • listen mstislav rostropovich play JS Bach before 1980

    its much better

  • Best Of The Bests., King Of Cello., and Specially Bach.,., He Makes EveryOne Crazy.,. He Is Legend.,.

  • he milks every note...incredible...and awe provoking vibrato...

  • Thank you for this video. My first time to SEE him play. He looks just as noble as he plays.

I am jealous of great granddaughter.

    Pierre, make me great granddaughter!

Sorry, my opinion and great granddaughter jealousy.

  • The most beautiful phrasing in the history of cello playing. Without doubt the most all round master of the instrument to date.

  • Yes, his Dvorcak concerto recording is earthshaking brilliance. Accept no other!

  • a master.

  • Unutterably wonderful - playing that radiates greatness of spirit, nobility of soul - musicianship of the very highest order!

  • Someone once said that you cannot play Bach, you have to allow the music to live through you as with no other composer. Fournier has such elegance, such mastery, he even surpasses Yoyo Ma. Music of the soul played by a master. I nearly failed my law degree because I was in the music library morst often, listening to this man playing on old records (I am ancient!) rather than reading up case notes. He must be a deeply spiritual man to be able to play like this, its all about the music and not him

  • yoyo ma is great, but not as great as people said,he is nothing compared with Pierre Fournier .Esp in this work.

  • Fournier is king of violoncellists!

  • Ahhhhh I'm thinking of no other cellist when i listen to this. oohhhhh mesmerising.

  • My favorite cellist, bar none.

  • it has the elegance, the lightness, the "groove", the fragility, the movement, everything! beautifull

  • He has the best of all cellist I know

  • France is indeed the land of the greatest cellists (Navarra, Gendron, Yo Yo Ma, Tortelier, etc.) but Fournier is the Emperor of that royalty.

  • please, don't say these things.. you should consider Enriuco Dindo, Antonio Janigro, Mario Brunello, or russian school like Rostropovich, Gutman and Geringas...

  • It doesn't get much better than this.

  • awesome french cellist, to be exact the aristocrat of the cellists

  • Nice. Pierre
