I've been a Zappa fan since the 1970's and hope to remain so until the great by and by. This does not mean I agree with him all the time. The Bible states we are made in the image of God. We are not "just like" God anymore and alot less than a photograph of ourselves presents the totality of ourselves.
@toobularbells Of course God knew the outcome, one point is that Abraham didn't. Not being The SUPREME BEING myself, I will not presume to speculate on all the possible nuances of God's modus operendi (sp?)
Actually, the Bible doesn't say the Earth is 7,000 years old.
Two religious figures in England some hundreds of years ago sought to create a time line documenting when Biblical characters lived, and traced the time line to the "original" point when Adam was created.
It was traced back to 4,000 and some odd years.
Not all atheists can attack the Bible correctly LOL
@toobularbells My thoughts exactly its all a load of fucking shite packed with morality tales to scare people into been placid and to stop everyone from going mad. Sorry but i will never believe something i have never seen. But i do believe in the heart of a person and the way they live their life. @toobularbells if i were you i wouldn't even argue with these idiots let them spend their lives worshiping a lie it is their time they are wasting and r gunna be so pissed when they die.
@mrmojorisin291278 I would agree that arguing with these people is a waste of time, but they should be openly mocked.. belittled .. and if you're up for it maybe even the occasional beating... but arguing is a waste of time of that there can be no doubt
@tamerswan I don't know for sure, I know he's not a Satanist because he openly denied it when the called him one on a talk show. He was probably along the lines of deism, you know, believing in the real God but not making a religion about it, because he did say he loves religious people, just not the assholes who use it for business and power and corruption. He said on a few occasions that his religion was music. He said "music is the only religion that delivers the goods". Hendrix was the same.
@Cunobelinus54 and you're a programmed moron that's incapable of thinking for yourself because all you know how to do is listen to predictive programming from people like Mr.Zappa.
I would say try and work it out but in your case it would obviously be pointless so if all you can do is throw aggressive comments at other people may I suggest you do the world a favour and drop dead yourself.
@subcutaneousboredom On the contrary, I simply find it abhorrent to rejoice in the death of anybody, regardless of the circumstances. Saying that you are glad someone's dead is simply horrible behaviour and suggesting that someone else should die based on an insult is similarly deplorable behaviour. Though, I must admit, I loved how you extrapolated all that information about me from just six words.
@stfwho Your right but if you think about it he died in 95 and while he lived through Vietnam and other wars his words are very fitting for today. The last 11 years could have been the inspiration for this song if i didn't know Frank wasn't around and when the song was written.

@mrmojorisin291278 I only remembered because that's the year I was born. I really hope I'm Frank Zappa's reincarnation haha. I've been looking a long time for the best music of the modern age and I think Zappa is IT. Perfect blend of comedy, music, observation, criticism, and genius!
@stfwho Your only 18? It's nice to know there are some of younger generation good taste in music and brains. I was given loads of grief at school for loving the Beatles and John Lennon. I laugh when i go on Facebook and the mates who laughed at me have The Beatles and The Doors as their favorite music. I call them try hard's cos they are just liking what "It's cool" to like and in 93 it wasn't cool. Anyway i am sending you an invite. Peace.
@pinknpurpledragon Frank mentioned appreciating Ice-T in an interview, saying that if it wasn't for rap there wouldn't be any modern poetry. I'm sure if he were alive today, he'd like Greydon Square, who is probably the most well-known atheist rapper, and whose fans include Richard Dawkins and Penn Jillette.
This song and album was written in response to Jimmy Swaggart and Pat Robertson and Oral Roberts and Jerry Falwell, who infested the airwaves c. 1978-1980 with a particularly virulent brand of brain disease that has now become stare decisis in our culture.
Wow, despite being written 30 years ago, this song gives a pretty accurate description of the US in the past few years (especially under Bush). I guess it just goes to show how predictably violent and brainwashed people are and sadly it'll never change.

Just saw Zappa plays Zappa do this tonight with Frank's vocals... awesome... amazing show... the guy was a genius. I kind of like the vocals live cause I can hear them a bit better.
Charles Whitman, who was the sniper in the University of Texas at Austin massacre, was a devote Catholic. He was shown to have had serious mental health issues which led to this tragedy. Faith, or a lack of faith has nothing to do with this. As Chris Rock says,"Can't anybody be crazy?" However, Paul Hill's Christianity did motivate him to kill an abortion doctor and his guard. Paul Hill felt he was a martyr and due a great reward in heaven.
Was a Christian nation? The U.S. is way more Christian now than it ever was. As far as all these points that are brought up.....well saying that taking god out has given society this, it seems incredibly naive. There are many factors that have contributed to this. If people actually listen to Zappa, this will be crystal clear. As far as the nation being so much better before the 60's, ask yourself how great it was if you were black or gay. Hardly a paradise for these people.
@apk1215 There used to be an old line around company, "No religion and no politics." Things have certainly changed (which all in all is good). In the late 60's and 70's progressive minded people moved various issues to the front burners. Pro-choice, women's rights, gay rights were certainly front and center. However, since the Reagan years the religious right has certainly felt a wind in its sail. 9/11 has made this worse by having people become more religious and chanting up OUR god.
@max86max Hmmm, that's interesting. Well, according to multiple sources, Christians, generally speaking, started to get far more involved in politics in the 70s as a reaction to the way the gov't was affecting their kids in public schools. Remember that, far before the Reagan years, the culture & laws(esp. about schools) had been changing **drastically**. So their involvement - rather than being a sign of increasing strength - was,in a way, a sign of weakness.
@apk1215 You might want to put in the words "decline of christianity in america" (w/out the quotation marks,of course) in a search engine & read about the decline. Also, investigating the Supreme Oligarc - oops - Court decision in 1962 about schools & those after would help you to understand what happened & what is going on now.
Anyway,I could go on & on about this but you know how it is - this "forum" stinks in that there's no room to type easily. lol. :P
@max86max Good gravy, that last message was suppose to be directed to you,Max,but I used the old rules for forum posting so I replied to myself in an attempt to get the comments in proper order. As I said before, this "forum" stinks. lol
For those who say fundamentalist Christianity isn't like Islam, I ask this question.....If you could fill a building with 3,000 abortion doctors, would you think flying a plane into it would be such a bad thing?
Religion, of any kind, is retarding any real progress in this world for humans.
1)Christians are prohibited by the Bible from taking those actions against the doctors. Anyone who bothers to do their homework will understand that religions are extremely different from one another. Where, for example, does it say in the Quran to forgive ones enemies and even to love them? Please do show this Quranic verse to me to demonstrate to me that Christianity is like Islam?
2)If Christianity is such a retarding influence then why is it that as Christianity has waned in the West ,things have been getting so much worse? Again,if one bothers to do one's homework one will begin to see the correlation between Christianity and a better society. It was around the mid-late 1960s that young Americans started to reject Christianity and it was at that point that America started to decline at a fantastic rate.
@max86max Back when America was a Christian nation - before the baby boomers came about - there weren't school shootings or shootings at workplaces and other places. Kids could even bring guns to school for gun club. There wasn't a need for expressions like "road rage" or "air rage". The crime rate was vastly lower, the income was vastly higher,America was a huge exporter, the kids in school had grades that were vastly higher.,etc,etc..
@max86max If Christianity were the horrible cancer upon society that some today say that it is,how is it that things were so much better when the US was a Christian nation?
Christianity is an intellectual corruption, an idiosyncracy of the degenerate that has caused immesurable harm. Despite Islam saving many of the great works of antiquity from clodhopping Christian 'philistines' (pun intended) they too are now following this glorious path, due in no small part, I fear, to our influence....
This song would have been far more logical if he had touched upon the vicious, violent communists - who were always atheists - that afflicted the 20th century. If he had truly believed that Dumb is "All Over" then he would have had tons to tell about atheists. lol
@apk1215 The difference being that violent communists weren't at all influenced by their atheism, they simply chose to do that. Not a valid comparison next to all the harm that's been done by religious lunatics.
It's quite clear from his music that Zappa was too intelligent to be able to buy into the religion business. Hell, just listen to these lyrics.
@Ziphoblat Quote: "The difference being that violent communists weren't at all influenced by their atheism, they simply chose to do that."
I can see what you're getting at here. By that same reasoning, how much more so would one who calls himself a Christian not be influenced by Christianity to do evil since the Bible teaches one to love one's enemies and forgive them.
Not all religions are the same. It sounds like you may be mistaking Christianity with Islam.
@apk1215 I don't have my religions mixed up at all; they're all one and the same as far as I'm concerned.. It's all well and good jumping on the bandwagon and scapegoating all the blame to Islam, but they're no different to any other organised religion. They're just in the limelight at the moment due to recent happenings in the world.
@Ziphoblat You misunderstood my point in mentioning the love and forgiveness parts. If you reread your quote and then what I wrote,it might become more clear why I pointed it out.
You mention that every religion is the same as far as you're concerned. I don't quite know,in a sense, what to make of this. Offhand, that would seem to me to be similar to seeing a person say that all governments throughout history have all been the same. I just don't get it.
@apk1215 The extreme misogynism and violence undertaken by a minority in the Islam faith is no different, for example, to the crusades of Christianity, it's just the 21st century take on it. I'm also curious as to how you believe that burning people who interpret your book in a different way at the stake could be considered love and forgiveness?
@EdDeRs3 Really? Does it say that on the album? I don't have it any more. I've never known Zappa to feature anyone other than himself as a guitar soloist, but what do I know. Maybe so. Now that I think of it, the Doreen solo sounds like it could be Vai. How does one know?
@EdDeRs3 It's not. I'm a Zappa expert and I can assure you it's Frank ;) Check on the Globalia dot net website. There is specific information about each track. Steve doesn't even play on "Dumb All Over".
Wow, despite being written 30 years ago, this song gives a pretty accurate description of the US in the past few years (especially under Bush). I guess it just goes to show how predictably violent and brainwashed people are and sadly it'll never change.
@NWG92 I was thinking the same thing (Even the Bush part) then I looked down and saw your post. He's definitely dumb all over and a little ugly on the side
@NWG92 Was it really 30 years ago? Hell. I had this album in my teens, but thought it was late teens. That's sad. I'm well passed middle age then. This whole album was brilliant.
@kickass5 He hasn't fucked up as bad as Bush yet, but other than that there's nothing special about him. The only people that run for political office are shitheads who weren't good at anything in life and so we're only ever going to get dumbass wastes of life for presidents. The tiny number of people who actually mean anything in this world don't waste their time trying to control people's lives.

trevorb6 6 months ago
@trevorb6
Yup.
I particularly like the part about Adam tearing his rib out, planting it in the ground,& how it grew into a woman.
& Jonah living inside the whale is pretty cool
Or how Noah was over 600 yrs old
Lot's wife turning around to see Sodom & Gommorah destoyed & turning into a Pillar of Salt was Uber-Cool
& why would a SUPREME BEING need to TEST Abrahams faith? you'd think he would know
BTW,it also says the EARTH is about 7000 years old
Read LOTR,it a much better FANTASY NOVEL

Hardly a paradise for these people.
max86max 1 year ago
@max86max Why do you believe that the USA is more influenced by Christianity now than it was back in 1961?
apk1215 1 year ago
@apk1215 There used to be an old line around company, "No religion and no politics." Things have certainly changed (which all in all is good). In the late 60's and 70's progressive minded people moved various issues to the front burners. Pro-choice, women's rights, gay rights were certainly front and center. However, since the Reagan years the religious right has certainly felt a wind in its sail. 9/11 has made this worse by having people become more religious and chanting up OUR god.
max86max 1 year ago
@max86max Hmmm, that's interesting. Well, according to multiple sources, Christians, generally speaking, started to get far more involved in politics in the 70s as a reaction to the way the gov't was affecting their kids in public schools. Remember that, far before the Reagan years, the culture & laws(esp. about schools) had been changing **drastically**. So their involvement - rather than being a sign of increasing strength - was,in a way, a sign of weakness.
apk1215 1 year ago
@apk1215 You might want to put in the words "decline of christianity in america" (w/out the quotation marks,of course) in a search engine & read about the decline. Also, investigating the Supreme Oligarc - oops - Court decision in 1962 about schools & those after would help you to understand what happened & what is going on now.
Anyway,I could go on & on about this but you know how it is - this "forum" stinks in that there's no room to type easily. lol. :P

For those who say fundamentalist Christianity isn't like Islam, I ask this question.....If you could fill a building with 3,000 abortion doctors, would you think flying a plane into it would be such a bad thing?
Religion, of any kind, is retarding any real progress in this world for humans.
max86max 1 year ago
@max86max
1)Christians are prohibited by the Bible from taking those actions against the doctors. Anyone who bothers to do their homework will understand that religions are extremely different from one another. Where, for example, does it say in the Quran to forgive ones enemies and even to love them? Please do show this Quranic verse to me to demonstrate to me that Christianity is like Islam?
apk1215 1 year ago
@max86max
2)If Christianity is such a retarding influence then why is it that as Christianity has waned in the West ,things have been getting so much worse? Again,if one bothers to do one's homework one will begin to see the correlation between Christianity and a better society. It was around the mid-late 1960s that young Americans started to reject Christianity and it was at that point that America started to decline at a fantastic rate.
apk1215 1 year ago
@max86max Back when America was a Christian nation - before the baby boomers came about - there weren't school shootings or shootings at workplaces and other places. Kids could even bring guns to school for gun club. There wasn't a need for expressions like "road rage" or "air rage". The crime rate was vastly lower, the income was vastly higher,America was a huge exporter, the kids in school had grades that were vastly higher.,etc,etc..
apk1215 1 year ago
@max86max If Christianity were the horrible cancer upon society that some today say that it is,how is it that things were so much better when the US was a Christian nation?
apk1215 1 year ago
Christianity is an intellectual corruption, an idiosyncracy of the degenerate that has caused immesurable harm. Despite Islam saving many of the great works of antiquity from clodhopping Christian 'philistines' (pun intended) they too are now following this glorious path, due in no small part, I fear, to our influence....

This song would have been far more logical if he had touched upon the vicious, violent communists - who were always atheists - that afflicted the 20th century. If he had truly believed that Dumb is "All Over" then he would have had tons to tell about atheists. lol
apk1215 1 year ago
@apk1215 The difference being that violent communists weren't at all influenced by their atheism, they simply chose to do that. Not a valid comparison next to all the harm that's been done by religious lunatics.
It's quite clear from his music that Zappa was too intelligent to be able to buy into the religion business. Hell, just listen to these lyrics.
Ziphoblat 1 year ago
@Ziphoblat Quote: "The difference being that violent communists weren't at all influenced by their atheism, they simply chose to do that."
I can see what you're getting at here. By that same reasoning, how much more so would one who calls himself a Christian not be influenced by Christianity to do evil since the Bible teaches one to love one's enemies and forgive them.
Not all religions are the same. It sounds like you may be mistaking Christianity with Islam.
apk1215 1 year ago
@apk1215 I don't have my religions mixed up at all; they're all one and the same as far as I'm concerned.. It's all well and good jumping on the bandwagon and scapegoating all the blame to Islam, but they're no different to any other organised religion. They're just in the limelight at the moment due to recent happenings in the world.
Ziphoblat 1 year ago
@Ziphoblat You misunderstood my point in mentioning the love and forgiveness parts. If you reread your quote and then what I wrote,it might become more clear why I pointed it out.
You mention that every religion is the same as far as you're concerned. I don't quite know,in a sense, what to make of this. Offhand, that would seem to me to be similar to seeing a person say that all governments throughout history have all been the same. I just don't get it.
apk1215 1 year ago
@apk1215 The extreme misogynism and violence undertaken by a minority in the Islam faith is no different, for example, to the crusades of Christianity, it's just the 21st century take on it. I'm also curious as to how you believe that burning people who interpret your book in a different way at the stake could be considered love and forgiveness?

EdDeRs3 1 year ago
@EdDeRs3 Really? Does it say that on the album? I don't have it any more. I've never known Zappa to feature anyone other than himself as a guitar soloist, but what do I know. Maybe so. Now that I think of it, the Doreen solo sounds like it could be Vai. How does one know?

@furyofbongos yes, yes it dose Vai is in fact lisyed as "stratabuse" on you are what you is and dose the solos on almost every album he plays
