  • love it. long time since I heard it. the joy of living abroad

  • from my Stuart and Wallace bloodlines ,i totally agree

  • Moran Taing. Beautiful photos.

  • Obrigada por disponibilizar belíssimas imagens aos som de Capercaillie !

  • I think this is my favorite Capercaillie song, if it is possible to choose a favorite (it isn't easy).

  • is maith liom an ceann seo .. mar ta an Ghaeilge agam. Don

  • An absolute classic.

  • i'm italian, and i can assure you, it doesn't matter where do you come from, this kind of music just grabs your heart and doesn't let it go!

  • What does na ho ro eile mean?

  • @mmasny There's no real meaning to it. It's like "e ho hao ri ri ri o" and "fill o ro" in other Gaidhlig songs. It's akin to "fol de diddle dero" and such that you find in Irish songs.

  • @Falscaidh or, I sometimes theorize, that if we could go back way further, say back to pre-christian times, such things could have a similar usage to the vocables in native american songs. just sounds, made to carry a meaning, or a particular rhythm or inflection of cadence. like the stereotypical "heyah, heyah ho"....just an idea I had... :)

  • The celtic empire covered a bigger area and lasted longer than the Romans, but having no written history, much of our history was written by the Romans and other enemies. Ireland, Wales and Scotland are all stunning in their own way, and we've long had a common enemy.....South the Tweed. Pity they often conscripted Scots to fight their battles for them.

    Celtic is all that matters.

  • It has much the same effect on a Gaelic speaking Irishman too ! Even one with a name like mine ( Phil Bebbington ) Le dea guí ó Éireann !

  • @euroserf :Its the mindset,not the name.Erin Go Bragh

  • there are no words that describe the feeling of a true Scot when this song is heard. Breathtaking. Thank you for uploading certainly the best version of this unbelievably beautiful song

  • To those who have not come back from the Seas, and to those families that have waited, this song is for them and for those that returned out of uncertainty,

  • this makes me a wee bit homesick. There's no where better when the sun's shining. i'm not a gaelic speaker but the music feels like home... one of the many songs and poems that feel so much more relevant than our official anthem, which, to my mind, is a nonsense.

  • Great music

  • My God this song is beautiful..and the landscapes are almost the same my land has!! (I'm from Galicia) are all of them from scotland? I'm really surprised because that's kinda "far" with seas between and all that :O

  • I toured through Galicia, Asturias, and Cantabria and was amazed at the similarity of the Landscape, the people, the music to the Scottish and Irish stuff, Long live all the Celts ( I am Irish ) !

I saw Harps, Bagpipes, Beer, Cider, Orujo, and Pota Gallego,,,,,,,it was very like home to me !

We'd have Harps,Bagpipes, Beer, Cider, Poitín, and Irish Stew !

  • @euroserf Haha that's funny! I'm from Cantabria and spent 5 months in Ireland last winter. I'm glad someone knows about the north of Spain - its green mountains, rainy and cloudy weather and vast nature. It's really tiring having to explain that there's another "Spain" apart from flamenco, toros and hot, dry summers!

  • While Robbie Burns wrote the phrase about a lass, I think it aptly applies to Scotland herself. "To see her was to love her, Love but her, forever, for Nature made her what she is, and never made another!

  • Ae Fond Kiss......lovely stuff !

  • I cry when I hear this! I used to be embarrassed, bursting into tears at "Flowers of Scotland" or anything that reminds me of my Scottish heritage, but now I just say "I'm from a beautiful island, so I'm used to being close to water"! Cry with pride, such beautiful language, beautiful pictures, who wouldn't cry. We can be first, second or third generation Canadian, American, but we were a hundred generations Scots, and blood will out"!

  • @maryschacht I know EXACTLY how you feel....God bless you and your family!

  • The other version by Karen is at: v=ZVup_-eFcKQ

  • Fear A' Bhata: aquaphobia? :-D

  • This song reminds me of the times when my mom was in hospital and I got scared and slept int he same bed as my dad as a child. I always played scottish music, and this song was one of the ones of the CD. It brings back the memories so strong, i cans till smell the scent of the sheets. 10 years on...

  • @joeah82 I was not saying it was a different person singing. I was saying it was the same person singing it differently.

  • brilliant helped me learn for my local mod in ArdSgoil Ardnamurachan

  • Does anyone have the English words for this song? I'd be very grateful!!

  • @elyzhium: They are in their website, but anyway, here you are: Oh My Boatman O my boatman, na ho ro eile O my boatman, na ho ro eile O my boatman, na ho ro eile May joy await thee where 'er thou sailest! I climb the mountain and scan the ocean For thee, my boatman, with fond devotion When shall I see thee? today? tomorrow? Oh! do not leave me in lonely sorrow. O my boatman, na ho ro eile O my boatman, na ho ro eile O my boatman, na ho ro eile May joy await thee where 'er thou sailest!
  • @azvf4833 thanks so much! :-)

  • There's another version of this sung by Karen Matheson on youtube, and she sings it differently.

  • My Grandfather's favorite song. His first language was Gaelic. This is a good version.

Makes me sad, missing him, but happy remembering him.

  • @LDixon007:

The original version of this song can be heard on Capercaillie`s album "Get Out" - Wonderful song, and I can`t get enough of Karen`s voice

  • I hadn't heard this version before - which album is is it from?

The version I'm used to is from "The Blood is Strong" album. That version is also available on YT.

    Both are excellent!

  • Alban - Éire abú!!!!!!!

  • stunning video and song. thanks for posting

  • I'm half Scot, and right now, I'm really getting misty-eyed. Let me tell you, southern California is NO substitute for the Highlands.

  • @hoosyerdaddie

Nor the steppes of southwest Kansas.

  • Marvelous! Can't get out of my mind :-)
