I know someone that has visited North Korea. It is possible, but you have "people" following you everywhere and you can't just go where you like. Also, if you're American, try to not to make it too obvious. Also be careful with the camera. Make sure it's okay before you go take any pictures\film. Otherwise it was a pretty cool experience, or so he said.

Somebody truly competent would institute Gorbachev-style reforms, which would be disasterous for the generals.

from what i've read, conditions in north korea are very bad.
it's been explained at massive prision.
i'm a bit confused though. do the people who live there want help? or are they made to keep quiet about it all? can no-one help the conditions there because they may have nukes, so if a country was to try and help, s.k could just nuke them?

I pity the poor North Korean people, led for 60 years by ruthless scumbags whose only concern is the continuance their own power. Kim Jong Il is a heartless killer who has pretty 'comfort women' surrounding him, and who lives in luxury. More than 40% of the budget is spent on the military, while millions of the people starve. To be an ordinary citizen in North Korea is to be a nobody. The regime is unspeakable, and Chinese support for it speaks volumes for the latter's attitude to human rights.

However, any change to their government has to come from within and it will take time. You cannot force some other country to change based on what you think is right. Take the Vietnam-American war for example. Killing millions of innocent people, for what? Vietnam is now peaceful and opening up by itself, on its own term.

@pokenei They are dying of starvation, because the North Korean government has decided to spend all their money on weaponry, and the Chinese are all to willing to sell them all the weaponry they want, to the point where the North Koreans now have nuclear weapons, which they can and will use against the South Koreans, the Japanese, or, if they manage to smuggle one in, the Americans.
Helping them by supplying them with armaments is not helping them at all.

Only through dialog and mutual respect can you bring change to North Korea. American's way of threat and invasion has failed repeatedly over the years. USA is the primary season why North Korea wants to develop nuclear weapons. It does not want to become the 2nd IRAQ.

None of these countries are communist, they're merely de jure communist. Communism is characterized by the abolition of commodity production (producing to sell), consuming & allocation according to individual need, abolition of wage labour. According to Marx the state is by definition a tool for one particular class, therefore when classes cease to exist the state will cease to exist as well. That's why, according to Marx, pure communism would be STATELESS communism.

Clearly these countries do not qualify as "communist", they are the "dictatorship of the proletariat" the (supposed) transitional phase before pure, stateless communism. (Of course Marx failed to take in account that there can be brought about a classless society through a dictatorship, after all a new class is then born: the ruling class/communist party elite).

I know someone that has visited North Korea. It is possible, but you have "people" following you everywhere and you can't just go where you like. Also, if you're American, try to not to make it too obvious. Also be careful with the camera. Make sure it's okay before you go take any pictures\film. Otherwise it was a pretty cool experience, or so he said.
