  • One of my favourite bands of the "goth"-era! Totally loved them!

Saw them a few times and one of my photos is used on the cover of their last (live)album, which I still don't own!

  • I followed this band and at each gig bumped into the lead singer - literally once - to the point that he just said "alright?" - I was too shy to hold a conversation!! - only 17! - best gig was at Coventry - did a bit of chicken moss pit dancing and lived to tell the tale - have all their early stuff tucked away - play it to annoy the children now!! - Helen

  • Proper tribal goth post punk, like 1919 and Ausgang. Before it all became nancy shit about vampires...thanks Dave Vanian.

  • goth post punk !

  • this is seriously beyond cool.....post punk not goth!

  • I love this...!I'm seriously getting into them despite having had the LP of 'Company of Justice' since my teens...but this is excellent!

  • man that was gay

  • Nice flange.

  • So underrated, it hurts me deep inside :-(

  • Lovely boys, good clean fun :-/

  • WOWOWOWOW - forgot all about this band....how the hell could I. He has my hair style after all (well, when I actually had hair!).

I remember this being on and have it on Video somewhere. Bloody brilliant.

    Rich

  • Loved Play Dead and all the mental chicken mosh ravers - u know who ur. Their gigs were awesome. Thanks for posting. : ).

  • @Captainyouth1

So that's what ya called it....'mental chicken mosh ravers'....we always called it the 'chicken war dance' lol

Good times indeed...and miss it like hell

  • i used to see these all time, total classic band, god i wish they would re form!!!

  • God I remember these. Sounded like a cross between Killing Joke and the mission. Always was more into Killing Joke tho

  • awesome band live in the day

  • AH! Glitter Band Drumming!!!

    Brilliant!!!!!!

  • The guy dancing in yellow cap, is norman whiteside, played for man u...massive play dead fan

  • This airing turned me into a fan- was already a killing joke and echo and the bunnymen fan- and regarded play dead as the 3rd band in fav 3 bands at the time- bought every vinyl offering- now every avail cd offering- even managed to get their video into the fire cooied onto DVD - which has their tube tracks on to- wish they would reform- that would be a dream come true

  • Bands like this always opened on the Tube and they were why we watched it. The Tube always made a big fuss about the headline act which was usually some twat like George Michael or Cliff Richard but I always turned off when the headliners came on. Play Dead took Killing Jokes ideas and ran with them. Play Dead were great!!

  • Without question, the most underrated band of the 80's. Their gigs were fantastic.

  • a band that split up far too soon they had so much promise

  • The First Flower was such a great record! Also, I have the "bat's head" logo as a tattoo. Great band!

  • 2 things to say here...

    diesel,flat tops,fishnecks..ah bisto,

  • What?!?! Hahahaha oh thats so awesome, I'd bug him like everyday :P What does he teach?

  • Tell your teacher he was in the most underrated band of the 80's.Play Dead gigs were fantastic and I own all their records(and a few bootlegs)!!!

  • You serious!!!????

  • @IcythosSapien I used to have a huge crush on him!

  • I'd file this one under Dark Wave myself, not necessarily goth though.

  • I'm in this video! I definitely wasn't a goth!!

  • lucky you!!!

Now you have an alibi for the forgotten years

    in your memory gongs.

  • let me guess... you're about 12, right?

  • agree with ye there mate, what about the lords of the new church episode, starkers in the dressing room then went on stage n said 'dont take heroin, take coke, its cheaper an a lot more fun' ha ha. tha dont make em like that any more!

  • WHAT A FUCKING BAND! I loved them. When the Tube makers remember the program in it's heyday they always remember when they had some mainstream shite on it like WHAM! Bands like Play Dead was why I watched it matey!

  • They played Sacrosanct straight after this..anyone got that?

  • I have that, in fact I thought I'd posted it...wonder if it was removed?.When I get the time I'll get it posted.

  • Can you get "Shine" on youtube? Or is there no vid?

  • They deserved to be as big as Killing Joke!

  • In my opinion "Pleasureland" was thier finest moment!

  • Worked with the drummers cousin in the eighties he freaked when he saw my lether jacket with the "Play Dead" logo on it LOL!

  • easily one of the most under-rated gothic rock bands

  • COOL!!

    まさかPlayDeadの動画が観れるなんて!!

  • Play Dead Lives!

  • Awesome to see this again. Hope to see more Play Dead stuff here. Makes me want to shave my head again and plat rat tails yeah!

  • cool

  • Why you PD guys don't take out the gears from the wardrobe and start playing again? Do it now when the industry is turning into a more positive direction, right now, before it is too late (once again).

I was lucky to be present on the Stockholm concert, round -85, absolutely awesome.

  • It is so strange, why is this not one of the most popular groups in the world? Strong tracks, individual top skilled musicians, play together live like gods....And they are more or less unknown today, absolutely unbelievable! My guess is that they launched 3-4 years too late, when they did, the music industry was changing direction into fucking shit music.

  • Great band...

  • Estos que son los padres del siniestro no van vestidos tan cutres como los goticuchis de ahora. Y el público también pasando del protocolo nazi que se quiere imponer en la actualidad para ser hipermegagótico de la muerte.
