I followed this band and at each gig bumped into the lead singer - literally once - to the point that he just said "alright?" - I was too shy to hold a conversation!! - only 17! - best gig was at Coventry - did a bit of chicken moss pit dancing and lived to tell the tale - have all their early stuff tucked away - play it to annoy the children now!! - Helen
This airing turned me into a fan- was already a killing joke and echo and the bunnymen fan- and regarded play dead as the 3rd band in fav 3 bands at the time- bought every vinyl offering- now every avail cd offering- even managed to get their video into the fire cooied onto DVD - which has their tube tracks on to- wish they would reform- that would be a dream come true
Bands like this always opened on the Tube and they were why we watched it. The Tube always made a big fuss about the headline act which was usually some twat like George Michael or Cliff Richard but I always turned off when the headliners came on. Play Dead took Killing Jokes ideas and ran with them. Play Dead were great!!
Just found this. Talk about meories flodding back, my Dad (RIP) Don Alexander was their manager for a while. Me young punk in awe when they turn up our lounge. Still got original copy of cassette tape with Tennant/ Propaganda in my garage, have to dig it out now. Cheers for making a 42 year old's day!!
agree with ye there mate, what about the lords of the new church episode, starkers in the dressing room then went on stage n said 'dont take heroin, take coke, its cheaper an a lot more fun' ha ha. tha dont make em like that any more!
WHAT A FUCKING BAND! I loved them. When the Tube makers remember the program in it's heyday they always remember when they had some mainstream shite on it like WHAM! Bands like Play Dead was why I watched it matey!
Why you PD guys don't take out the gears from the wardrobe and start playing again? Do it now when the industry is turning into a more positive direction, right now, before it is too late (once again).
I was lucky to be present on the Stockholm concert, round -85, absolutely awesome.
It is so strange, why is this not one of the most popular groups in the world? Strong tracks, individual top skilled musicians, play together live like gods....And they are more or less unknown today, absolutely unbelievable! My guess is that they launched 3-4 years too late, when they did, the music industry was changing direction into fucking shit music.

One of my favourite bands of the "goth"-era! Totally loved them!
Saw them a few times and one of my photos is used on the cover of their last (live)album, which I still don't own!
