@NWguy83 But Japan never even get to defeat China totally in WWII. In fact their ground forces were pinned down in China while the few that could be spared for the Pacific got totally beat by USA. Forcing the Japanese Navy to fight as infantry
@Siluriuskaeso that and the U.S and European embargo of oil and metals to Japan forced them to stretch their supplies and a fight with the stubborn chinese army was impossible. An Asian conquest was out of question.
What if China had adopted 20 variant of the Remington Model 8 sporting rifle in 1912? Or if Poland had done likewise in 1922? World War II in both theaters might have never happened.
What I wouldn't give to work in that museum and be surrounded by the breathtaking history of the firearm from its earliest inception to its most spectacular expressions during the Second World War and all the way to the present... it would be downright inspirational...
@maooz I've read it fired a full charge 4.8mm round but it more likely fired the 7.92x57 Mauser round. as for capacity it appears to have the magazine design of a Mauser 'Kaishek rifle' probably holding five rounds
Wow, imagine if that rifle had made it back. China may have been able to hold off Japan earlier in the war, Pearl harbour may not have happened and America's involvment in WW2 minimized. Could have been a much much different war
lol only some semi-auto rifles could prevent Japanese attack? that's kidding.
In the battle of Ramou(1944), 5 divisions of KMT army including 1st Chang Kai-shek guard division: the best trained troops of Chinese land force, equipped with American weapons and commanded by Gen. Joseph Stilwell from US army, fought against 1300(about 300 are wounded) Japanese soldiers of the 113 regiment.
As the result, most Japanese soldiers had fought to death but instead 7000 of 20000 Chinese were killed, even they had better equipment and outnumbered Japanese. Most important factor to dicide war situation is strategy, tactics and quality of combatants, not fuckin M1 Garands or SMGs.
and don't forget that Imperial army had some manurable machineguns and Type 89 knee mortar which could provide massive firepower in a battlefield.
@Nitoryuu before the German invasion of Russia they had the SVT-40 a semi-auto rifle which was better than the German kar98 so i don't see how a semi-auto would help much unless used in the right hands
@bloodyblade24 Yes but the Russians were also caught off guard and many SVT-40 rifles were captured by the Germans. They had trouble supplying guns to their troops in months/years after and were more interested in making sub-machine guns and simpler mosin nagants as fast as possible.
Huh. China couldn't have fought off the Japanese with AK-47s, but it's still mind-boggling everybody went to war with bolt-action rifles. To save money?
@opinioninflicting well its because to make a semi from a bolt was not only questionable to the generals(tactics),but the fact to make the semi and introduce such a new gun would cost a nation a arm and a leg, plus where to make the new factory to make them, and the machines, and parts, and more ammo, and to train the troops, would take a year or so for a new gun to full merge into the military and become popular.and plus bolts where always more accurate then semi, and still are.
@opinioninflicting They went with bolt-actions because nobody had perfected a semi-auto capable of firing a full-powered cartridge in the 9-10 pound range. If Japan, or anyone else had AK-47s (or the German Stg 44) early in the war, they would have had what is known as a "combat multiplier", which is what the M1 turned out to be. One company of soldiers or marines with Garand rifles have a lot more firepower than an equal number with bolt actions.
not to troll but China's soldiers still would have been rolled over by the Japanese with or without that rifle.

@Nitoryuu We would never have to deal with Pearl Harbour, and France wouldn't exist as a country.
I see nothing wrong with this.

The narration differed in quite a few places to the research done by Chinese firearms expert Bin Shih.
Among other things, the marking on the receiver indicated that the rifle was made by the Army Hanyang Armory.
