@HemiHead66 ...as kind of irrational as that possibility is lol, it's the only one that makes sense. Who could possibly dislike this song, this band, this time in rock music. Let's not mention that Bieber guy's name again, especially in the presence of anything Skynryd :)
zz top was a blues band and they ain't sloutches either, gibbons ain't bad in anybodies book except someone who doesn't play anything except the player
Of the Southern Fried Rock bands that came out of The 70's, I liked The Eagles and ZZ Top better. For those who liked Lynyrd Skynyrd, if they turn your crank, more power to you.
Watching this i thought to myself, "How come i never really heard of the guitarist from Lynyrd Skynyrd like i know Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix? This guy is fuckin awesome and i can't think of anybody else from that time period playing like that. It sounds original but familiar. Other guitarists etched out their style and were known for it by name. Why have I never heard of this guy?" Then i realized its becuz he never marketed himself that way. Its Lynyrd Skynyrd the BAND, not just a guitarist.
@MrJordanisking: Easy: because there wasn't just one to take all the glory, they had to split it up evenly.
Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Steve Gaines, and Ed King. Hell, even later on when they formed what I call the "Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band" they still had Hughie Thomasson and Ricky Medlocke.
Love the band, love the song, but I have to ask why, despite the sound of screaming girls in the background, we only see close-up shots of drunk/stoned boys nodding their heads to the music in the crowd? One would think from watching this video that there were no girls in attendance!!
Fuck - we got tickets for the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon gig - the band still with Ed King. On the way the car died and we were stuck in Bow Rd. We clubbed-together money to get the tube-train to Hammersmith -where we had front-row circle seats.
We ran up the stairs and could hear the intro for a song -it was loud.
The song hit us hard as we fell through the door and I'd never heard anything so pure and perfect before and so loud. Never seen fireworks at a gig before either!
The first time I heard this song was in the Burt Reynolds movie "The Longest Yard" .. he was driving his wife's car and being chased by the police .. Saturday Night Special fan since ! ..
HEY THAT MUST HAVE BEEN A AUTOMATIC RADIO 8TRACK THEY ALL DID THAT MINE WAS NEW AND DID THAT MY 8TRACKS ARE GONE BUT THE ALBUM WITH THE FIRE IS RIGHT NEXT TO ME ALONG WITH 5OTHERS FROM THEM
@mikemcpeak714 Hi. Did you know that Ronnie Van Zant considered himself a redneck?. And he say that in US "you don´t have to be black to be a nigger". And finally, he considered the "american dream" a nightmare he was trying to get up from. I read that in the liner notes of the Skynyrd´s Best Of Millenium Compilation. Cheers!
Skynyrd was on their way to being the biggest rock band in the world. Just imagine how many songs Ronnie would have written by now. It just blows your mind. He did so much in so little time.
You say 50Cent - I say Led Zeppelin You say Miley Cyrus - I say Metallica You say T-Pain - I say Deep Purple You say Flowers - I say Van Halen You say Pink - I say Pink Floyd You say Hip Hop - I say Jimi Hendrix You say R&B - I scream Classic rock rock is dying from this crap 70% of kids have turned to it dont let rock die be the other 30%
I wounder if the people in the crowd realised how lucky they were to be witnessing one of the greatest of all time. Wish i was born a little ealier and could have seen them. RIP ronnie.
@rickswar - actually Michael Jackson sold more records than anyone ever with his release,"Thriller" produced and written by Bruce Swedien and Quincy Jones. Get it right if you're gonna call someone stupid
The way the guitar starts out is just awesome. Folks this was 35 years ago and it still is as good as it was in '76. Also the message is still as strong as ever. Guns are no good in 2011 as will as 1976.....
@bigman300 You Got That Right!!!!!! There will be another time like this one in the concert. Everytime I watch Skynyrd it makes me sad though, such incredibly talented guys.
My father had AN eight track in his Dodge Challenger one of two in New Zealand we would sink into those big leather seats and listen to surround heaven aka Lynard Skinner and other greats back in the seventies
Preach it Ronnie! and what about the Okie? Steve Gaines was the man,not takeing anything from Gary or Allen, but Steve Gaines was, well words cant discribe him!!!
This song is about the gun most of us have .I understand thier meaning ,but they also put it in perspective about how stupid people can be when other things influence how you act.
This is the song that is blaring out of Burt Reynolds car while he's being chased by the cops at the beginning of The Longest Yard. Loved it since 1974.
I remember having the 8 track of this and we played it so much in the car that we had to stick a book of matches under it so it would play right. Does anyone remember doing that?
@gklcinc I guess that was a trait of 8 track tapes when they were well liked. I still have a small box of 4 track tapes. I found them dumped on a service road for utilities
@gklcinc Yeah but I was just a bit too proud so I used a broken emry board (Nail file) and made it small enough that only my best friend and His And My Old lady knew about it Good listening Huh !
Its is amazing that after all of this time this is still music that can not be denied. Say what you want about marketing or personal beliefs it has the power to move you. It is something that we can all identify with.

@GLYDR Haha that's funny, even though Ronnie Van Zant and the rest of Skynyrd loved Neil Young, and Neil and the Ronnie were in contact with each other not long before the big crash. @scott4xtc Wow! You must have been the wet spot your momma rolled over onto after your daddy got done spanking his monkey! Not that I owe any dickhead an explanation but........ I have a closet full of guns, I am a registered republican, I'm conservative, obviously 10 times smarter than your dumb ass, I don't make moronic assumptions about people based on a screen name, I dig music, & I piss on idiots like you!
@scott4xtc Put down the xbox & get a brain! What are you??? Freakin 2 yrs old??? Start stupid shit with people for no reason other than you're a stupid jackass? Yea yer reaaaal cooool duuuude.
@scott4xtc You do realize that this song is about how there should NOT be handguns, right? Does that make Lynyrd Skynyrd a bunch of communist "Libtards"?
This makes my southern heart proud! LOVE this song. It just didn't get any better than this and it still has no rival. The VanZant bloodline is amazing.

I have a closet full of guns, I am a registered republican, I'm conservative, obviously 10 times smarter than your dumb ass, I don't make moronic assumptions about people based on a screen name, I dig music, & I piss on idiots like you!

This makes my southern heart proud! LOVE this song. It just didn't get any better than this and it still has no rival. The VanZant bloodline is amazing.
