I hate this praising of Streep - as if she was the only actress ever managing to interpret Mutter Courage well. I saw it at Berliner Ensemble. Those guys know what Brecht is all about.

"The play needs some cutting!! The woman must be insane! Is she talking about commercial or artistic succes. Apparently in America that is one and the same thing. SAD!

Anyway I really respect Meryl Streep - even though she is doing what any trained European stage actor would do. Nothing more. Nothing less.

i saw this and went back again JUST to see that last song (the closer of the 1st act) It was the best thing I've ever seen on stage and I've seen a lot of 'landmark' theater. If you ever have a chance to see Streep live GO! It is revelatory. there's something different about it and her film acting (also brilliant) but live she's doing something else.
