  • I love how they tried to edit it like an actual movie haha

  • Damn!! soo rad!! :D

  • Dressen, OG Dogtown ripper!

  • This video has been up almost 3 years, has 31,923 views,86 likes and not one single dislike. And that's the way it should be.

  • speeed freeeaks burp

  • love this fuckin part, so damn good and i always felt like it was a year or two ahead of its time. the slo-mo is overkill though; reminds me of a video made in the past five years

  • imagine the flat spots..

  • Fuck! That was fuckin gnar! Eric is a pure shred machine!

  • hes the original dennis busenitz

  • wow, grabbing the nose on that wallride at 6:26 is ballsy shit

  • lol my ass old man. there are skaters wiping their ass with money.

  • ahahah i bet skatenerd at transworld skateboarding sent u here

  • i'm just glad he's back on santa cruz

  • Steve Caballero said he was one of the first to salad

  • killing it!

  • badass thanks for the memories.

  • anyway you can put Jason Jessee's part up??

  • @drewb75 I fuckin' love Jason Jesse's part and I'm not even a huge vert ramp fan. His style is so awesome and the song on his speed freaks part goes very nicely as well.

  • @MyWendal btw the song is called: "Start the Machine" by Bl'ast from the Take the Manic Ride album. Whole album kicks ass!!

  • I love this stuff. Man I wanna make a retro old school videotape. Or at least try.

  • Dang he fuckin rip's imagine how hard it must have been doing a handrail when there were barely even concaves on a board.

  • check out how fast hes going- and modern skaters make fun of 60mm wheels. 52's are a bullshit marketing scam "hey lets get the kids to buy wheels that only last for one session!" "no way man, guiseppe zastapidde rides these wheels and he rules." yeah, but he gets sacks of them from his sponsor. and he rules slowly..

  • Eric D is a true OG. This part rules, as does his parts in Risk It and Reason for Living. Glad he still skates.

  • Speed Freaks is one of the dopest videos ever, i still have an original VHS copy!!

  • @shermanfunk Yep it's one of my all time favs. Jason Jesse, Natas, Dressen, Vallely, Hosoi all kill in this one. Neil Blender's part is good too in a comical way.

  • did that old fart say "another form of game", or "another form of gay"? eric should have smacked him and shoved his crack pipe up his ass.

  • "form of game"

Haha..we use to quote that dude back in the day.

  • 10-4. yeah, i skated back in the '80's and didnt know that much about him then cause all we had was thrasher and shit, but now that i look back i think he has just about the all around sickest style out there. then and now.

  • @Don1970 lol yeah that guys a legend. I can only imagine how many skaters were impersonating him all over the country after this vid came out.

  • @Don1970 I think we watched this 10,000 times when it came out. We used to quote this entire flick while skating lol. Some great one liners. "You think you can make a living skateboarding?"

  • @Don1970 totally! I think my bros and I even did a ping-pong based spoof on handicam... :D

  • @Don1970 I guess everyone, if you saw that movie.

Having such good feeling about this vid. esp. this part.

It was like watching and then the unstoppable itch came to go outside and roll the board...

  • Yeah we all know that kid, I'd prefer to see Natas, Eric, Vallely or Gonz any day.

  • Respect. That little shithead down the street that can trey flip down his steps all day couldn't do a fraction of this shit. Everybody knows that kid right?

  • skateboard isn't a game old man-its a way of life! and he's doing bert slides!

  • dressen wasn't covered nearly enough back in the day IMO. dude was a pioneer.

  • I agree, he could skate anything thrown at him.

  • king of the salad

  • ripping style holmes!

  • @jckstnly well ya he invented it. lol

  • Back when it was real. We watched this so many times when it came out the tape stopped working. Eric still rips.

  • Eric does rip.

I loved this part so much, the entire speed freaks vid tbh.

  • funny shit

  • this is one of the most inspirational skate parts ever, wants you to go out and skate as fast as him, just cruise.

  • my father skates like him,and he told me i'm a wimp :D

  • hahahahahah:D

  • spot on!

just cruise, this exactly what i liked about skateboarding, I wasn't a technical good skater, i just loved crusing around.

  • hahahah slow mo for 2:25

    its awesome

  • What setup is he using on his demo?

  • His model Dogtown squaretail 30" Indy 159s and OJ 2 street razors or somethimg 60mm or small as 55's Cell Blocks and Grind king king pins.. I think He stayed with friends of ours outside Atlanta after one of the Savannah Slamma Contests and was totally chill, laidback Venice style and skated really, really fast..Eric still skates and still rips...Eric has a great quote too.."You don't quit skateboarding because you get old..you get old because you quit skateboarding.." 100% SKATEBOARDER FOR LIFE

  • What wheels is he using? I'd like to know the hardness as I thought softer wheels were less slidy?

  • wtf? It says at the beginning of the video at :30! Can't u read??

  • No I can't read. It says that about the OJs yeah but it's a different (banana) board so I thought it was a different setup he's riding in the video. It's definitely not the exact same deck as he shows to camera at the beginning so it's fair to ask what wheels he's using.

  • the wheel measurements are for the actual board he is riding thru the video. The measurements at 0:30 have nothing to do with the banana board...Every pro rider in this video had their wheel stats at the beginning of their part.

  • Does anyone no the song thats in the Jason Jesse part of this video

  • Yeah, it's "Off and On / Start the Machine" by Bl'ast. The album was called "Take the Manic Ride", and you can find it at Amazon. Good stuff.

  • @Don1970 i fuckin' love Jason Jesse's part for his big airs plus the awesome track. Someone needs to upload that shit.

  • @MyWendal I've been meaning to put that part up. I'll try to do it soon. He's bad ass and funny!

  • @Don1970 I'd like that!

  • @Don1970 I have a bl'ast LP I should upload

  • I dunno who has the balls to thumb down your big brothers out here remembering the good times- but respect your roots that made it all possible and the OG's representing on and enjoying this post, or just quit skateboarding now and bring on the inevitable rat race of a life that awaits your type...

  • the vitus song is "thirsty and miserable"

    it's a black flag cover

  • See this is the kind of stuff that I want to do. This is skateboarding at its best. Just out to have fun. And thats what its all about! We need to keep in mind of where we got skateboarding from. My heros man.

  • Thanks so much for posting, man. I, too, was a young skateboarder during the late '80s to mid '90s. This was my era. I loved it like nothing else. This Dressen clip in particular was one of my favorite things ever. He tore it up hard and fast, and this footage definitely captures the freedom of street skating during that time. Amazing...

  • This is back when it was fun and not about doing runs and having a whole line of tricks wherever you go.. Not just doing a single handrail or stair case.. Good times!

  • This is the way to skate. Skating like a MAN! Fast and hitting what ever comes in your way. Doing as many tricks as possible while going FAST. Thanks for posting this. Eric Dressen was one of my favorite skaters.

  • Does anyone have the jason jessee mini part in this video i cant find it

  • i also used to get pumped up watching this clip back in the days! Nowadays looking at it, it still wanna makes me go rip up the streets :-)

also like the jason jesse part on the mini though

  • wahoo 11th post !!

  • Eric D is a classic example of "street stylin!" for you kids out there, that is what we used to call street skating. this dude invented the salad grind. ala "salad dressen" check it out at 4:05!

  • yeah them were the dayz,.... jason jesse was all quirky now even more neil blender had that classic thrasher inteview talkin bout he had a girlfriend ..."once"... never forget that.. met him long time ago when he came round to chicago burbs i couldnt remember for nothin where it was now..chris millers famous fall at the combi pool..on and on..

  • " skateboarding is no big deal"... just another form of guh ammmee.. get the point... god i rememeber this video.. the opening..got ran over by 2 cars and it didnt break HELL no boards back then where BUILT ford tuff.. rails on it dam I miss nii halfs..

  • Haha I remember quoting the hell out of this vid. The "skateboarding is no big deal" guy. Grosso...quote him all day.

  • yeah, laughs...I wonder if he ever saw himself in this classic vid. He's probably retired old man now sitting on his porch rocking chair telling skaters to "get offa my sidewalk!!" ;P

  • This video aint that old little kid.

  • @Don1970 lol yeah Grosso was damn funny in this video. Loved the screeching laugh at the end "Hehehehe!!"

  • I love rad old school videos like this.

It makes me wanna buy a sweet shaped board

  • I hear ya man! I've been looking at old decks recently. I have a few myself that I skated back then, but none are in good shape now to really skate. There's lots of re-issues out that I'm looking at.

  • go to tgmskateboards. c 0m its has old school complete great ones for 70.00 dollers or less yw

  • Those power slides downhill are siiiiick!! :D I wonder how he didn't end up with major flat spots afterwards? Good advertising for Speed Wheels here! :D

  • Yeah, I love the slides. He's skating some harder wheels. You can slide them bad boys all day!

  • This vid is sick, ill put some vids up of my old skl stuff, nice work.

  • whats the song. its been buggin me cool song great video, spreed freaks is one of my favorites.

  • Thanks man. The music credits in the video are kinda funny, but I think the band is called THE ALTER NATIVES fromm SST Records. The song title isn't listed, but I found some info online. It says their first two albums featured a saxophone and flute, and that's what I hear in this tune. Great tune! Here are the first two albums plus 3rd...

    Hold Your Tongue (SST) 1986

    Group Therapy (SST) 1988

    Buzz (SST) 1989

  • Update: I wasn't thinking. I just remembered the music switches when he's skating at the school. That band should be SAINT VITUS. They have a much larger discography than the other band. From 84-89 there's 7 LP's & EP's listed, plus more after that.

  • Thanks! That sounds like fun. Five foot longboards...awesome! I would love to skate again, but one of my ankles is shot from skating back then. I could step on a rock and twist it easily. It really sucks cause I miss skating. Check out the Mark Gonzales vid I put up. One of my favorite parts from a skateboard video. I'm going to put more stuff up later. Going through a big box of vids, thinking back to the old days.

  • hey guys, im gone put some old school vids too, hope you ll like it!. savannah slamma!!! and some more stuff! we gotta keep the old days...

  • Awesome! I'll check it out. Hey, do you have an old vid called "Summer Sessions"? I'm dying to get a hold of that thing. A friend of mine had it back in like 86 or 87. Love that vid. The music was all T.S.O.L

  • ill take a look at all my old school vids. i think there is a chance to find it! just gimme some time til i find it!

  • Awesome man! Funny though I just started skateboarding again about a month ago. I hadn't been in fifteen years. A friend of mine has several five foot longboards so weve been skating the hills out by William and Mary. Kick ass vid!
