woah. u are soooo good! after this search up ukelele eden and then you will realise how good he is ... :) P.S its me on da uke when i just started sooo im not da best back then)
@BadGuitarPlayerRock Actually the ukulele was not invented in Hawaii but imported by Portugese sailors. The only truly native instruments of the Pacific Islands are percussion and wind instruments.
How fortunate for me and all of my classmates to have Carl as our Uke teacher!!!! I am brand new to the Uke or ANY musical instrument and I kind of suck at playing (after only 3 classes) but I can see that the more time I spend with my new little friend (my uke) the closer I will get to my neighbors actually liking with they hear over the fence :) - Carl is an awesome dude with a great sense of humor.
If you don't mind, could you please tell carl that this is the most amazing ukelele piece i've ever heard in my entire life? seriously, he is so talented. if there is any place to purchase his music, i'd be interested.
He's using what is called a loop pedal wich records up to around 40sec of music playback, He record's his first strum by the tap of the pedal, which plays back his first strum, at the same time, he can add other thing's on top like (scaling, and picking etc) and record/playback these aswell.
But in this case he just use's the first strum and adds on top of it, with the help of the loop pedal, which is a very handy pedal to use for solo's........i have this equipment myself.....Guitarist
@JESSePAUL100, No looping electronics were used. In the "info" it explains, "Carl Ray VillaVerde plays both rhythm and lead in this version." We taped the rhythm and played it back and he accompanied himself playing leads the second time. You can see dissolves between them. When his right ear has a dark patch, that is the headphones used for him to hear himself for the taping the leads.
When he's playing the background, he has a small smile on his face. He's really enjoying that song. I almost enjoyed it just as much. Thanks so much for the post. Beautiful
His virtuoso play on the ukulele is a balm for body and soul. One cannot learn something like that, one gets it in the cradle laid. Lots of love from Germany.
@McLovinn21@McLovinn21 Yeah, he does look like the grandpa! I was watching Johnny Tsunami the other night, and then saw this-- that's exactly what came to mind.
@McLovinn21 Yeah, he does look like the grandpa! I was watching Johnny Tsunami the other night, and then saw this-- that's exactly what came to mind.
They are both seen and heard. carl recorded the rhythm first, then listened to it and accompanied himself with leads. Note his right ear has a small headphone when playing leads. Dissolves are between the different parts.
lol my little sis married a doll cause she has a crush on "prince Eric" from Ariel so she said her "Honeymoon" would be Hawaii then she wanted a Hawaii song and I clicked on the very talented guy!
Beautiful. I think the Hawaiian people have a connection to the ukulele in the same way the Okinawan people have a connection with the sanshin. An island nation thing?
this is like flamenco style guitar : ) i play flamenco and i'm looking into playing ukulele. it would be easy for me to learn it cuz the styles are just so similer! just a ukulele is wayy smaller then a flamenco guitar
Wow! That was very kewl indeed! The only thing missing is us in the background with our bongos playing along! As soon as I get some time, I will try to get some video of an Appalachian favorite - the dulcimer!
You hear both rhythm and lead all the time, you only see one at a time but you do see them both. When the dark spot is over Carls right ear he is listening to the rhythm and playing lead to it.
you're not born with the ability to play a song by ear it comes with practice. that said, i don't think making a song accessable to those who want to play it amounts to killing it. if you want to improve as a musician, figuring a song out by ear is a great way to do that. if you want to play this song just because you feel like learning it there is nothing wrong with tabs, lots of people knowing a song doesn't 'cheapen' it or anything.
If you read the information it says that Carl first recorded the rhythm then listened and accompanied himself. In the video you see both with dissoves back and forth. When his right ear is darkened from the headset he is playing leads.
Yea, Carl is playing, but there are 2 recording sessions. First the rhythm, then he listens to that with a headphone (note the dark spot on his right ear) and then he plays leads to it.
He's playing with another person....watch closely. When he's playing in the high register...you'll realize there's other ukulele sounds and it's not him playing. It's background music. He's just playing along with a recorded CD or another player.
You see 2 different shoots. On one he's playing rhythms, and the other he's accompanying himself playing leads to his rhythms. When you see a dark spot on his right ear he's doing leads. Dissolves are between them.
He'eia is an traditional Hawaiian song about the Kings favorite surfing spot. It was originally a chant that has been adapted to ukulele. Carl Ray VillaVerde plays both rhythm and lead in this version.

When the black spot appears on his right ear, (headphone) he is playing leads to the rhythm which was recorded first.

tabbing music is the same as killing it. once tabbed, everyone has it and it becomes so common they disrespect it.
Learn it by ear and it will mean that much more when you play/perform it.
