This isnt the fort, this is the tower battery, the fort in on the shore and was filled up in the 60s, this is a common mix-up as the fort isnt visible
Excellent video, went there about 12 years ago, and the staircases and iron handrails were rotten then! Was to scared to go right to the top! Was that ladder already there? I had to climb in useing that huge chain! By the way, that dumbwaiter is a hoist to raise shells and their propellent charge from the safety of the deep inner magazine , to the guns. This fort was originally built in the 1850,s as a large martello tower, and was altered in both world wars.
@joeyollie123 There isn't any abandoned mines near where I live. but I will see if there are any more abandoned forts I could get to. There are some on small islands out at sea but I don't have a boat. (I might see if I could hire one)
@benobve oh ok i have never been to that sort of area in kent but the only place i have been by water in kent is erith because my grandad and grandma live in bexleyheath and there isn't much around there.
Facinating. Give me a call next time and i'll come with you! hehe!! Love exploring places like this, but enjoy it better when i'm otta there and can view footage safely back at home!
Be careful, and watch out for the tide (yes, that could be embarrasing if the tide came back in!)
Asbestos isn't dangerous if you don't disturb it.
