I don't agree with sirmacintoy's posit re:adrenaline & cortisol (stress) levels. Identical behavior has been observed in response to the availability of luxury goods. Luxury goods also "prime" individuals to be less concerned about or considerate toward others. How does riding in town cars and on flying in corporate jets stress people out?
Free energy is finaly here! But a few ppl make too many billions from our energy needs to let this technology be known,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,Let the revolution begin!
I disagree, Money might have similar effects but my conclusion....Sugar=increased heart rate = increased pain tolerance and who stops to help on a sugar rush?
Couldn't it just be that, as they were just trusted handling a lot of money, they "owe" it to the researchers to get more into the project, by keeping their hands in longer, eating more, etc.?
My guess is that handling lots of money raised adrenaline & stress levels of the tests subjects - making them hungrier for sweets, less helpful and less susceptible to pain. They basically went into "hunt mode". A similar effect could probably be created by for example scaring the participants or injecting them with an adrenaline shot.
Definitely... I'd have to agree with you on that. Sure... Putting them into a "Fight or Flight" state might well have similar consequences. Keep thinking! :)
nope, i dont quite believe the first experiment... i think those who handled the money ate more sweets because subconsciously they think the researchers are rich, and can afford more sweets.
paper money is filthy to handle....assuming they didn't wash their hands I would think the money handlers would have had an aversion to finger food.......
It's a shame the research was not done scientifically:
1) The researchers knew which group had to count what, so the researchers' expectations may have influenced the way they treated their test subjects; it was not a so-called "blind experiment".
2) There were multiple variables. One group got different things to count AND different questions to answer, while only the latter was taken into account with the paper drop experiment.
With these points in mind the 98.6% has no meaning.
Hmm.. That was told long ago by yogis, for example if you see the laughing buddha statue it has a big belly and laughing Buddha has been associated with bringing in money and prosperity, so if you want money you must also have greed, it is inevitable. The degree of greed increases in direct proportion to money unknowing to us..

@gpeuhqt - Actually, a blind experiment, which this was, is scientific. It might have been better if it was a double-blind experiment.
