We don't have a food stamp system in Canada, but $600/month for 2 adults and 2 children is generous. I spend about that much in a month but it will also include pet food, cleaning and paper products, toothpaste etc. We eat very healthy with emphasis on fresh and frozen veg, lean meats and dairy. We stay away from the centre aisles of prepackaged and processed foods. Planning is a key factor in budgeting for healthy meals.

@cdltpx what do I mean wow I was working on the same construction site the other workers had to pay for a motel I was camping out on the locals land and was free to come and go as I please. I was able to save all of my money rather than pay for a sub standard hotel room all because I sought work not money. it is not with you earn it is what you spend. bike 50 mpg lodging free food manimal. I don't know where they're getting that people with food stamps eat so bad. I know people on welfare that have the most outrageous, expensive birthday parties for their kids and spend the food stamps for big barbeques. They also buy the biggest packages of meat and have steak at least 3 times a week. My family lives off of ramen and rice.

I recieved food stamps for a few years about 20 years ago. I needed more food to feed the kids, but I didnt think for one minute that the state or tax payers were suspose to pay for all my food. My kids were what the concern was. We had eggs and toast and hotdoogs, daily. Then there was enough for a halfway desent hambuger helper meal at night.
