Britain has a real problem with binge drinking, and has had for years. It's pretty sad. I don't think British people can enjoy themselves without being drunk.
Funny how alcohol is legal and causes so many problems, yet certain drugs are banned, but you never hear of people on weed having massive fights! Hmm, I wonder if it's because the beer companies donate masses to government political parties and the tax booze brings in is significant. The greedy government get nothing from marijuana (because it's so easy to grow) except people with more free minds, so they 'ban' it instead! If that isn't population 'control', then I don't know what is.
Drinking is bollocks but there is nothing out there to give people an incentive not to drink. Soft drinks are often more expensive than booze and its always booze offers in clubs and pubs. Designated drivers should get there drinks free.
Thats their own stupidity. You can't punish the masses for the irresponsibility of a few. 18 is the legal age of adulthood therefore you can't take away our rights. Sorry cunt.
Wasnt much of a doc (no offense). I've been drunk for the last 4 years, I'd like some real information about how F*(&cked I may or may not be. *Cracks beer*
After thirty five years away from Sunderland I see it has not changed. I live now , oddly enough , near a similar city where binge drinking and alcoholics are commonplace. In fact I would say I have never been far from a place where folks drink till they fall and I spent half of my life in rural places.
The condition is manufactured , if folks want it changed they will do so . Until then the drunks in the streets of the world will always be there demanding yet more poison.
I live a half hour or so North of Milwaukee Wisconsin. A city which in so many way has undergone an identical change ( to Sunderland ) wrt unemployment . I have lived here for about 10 years.
brilliant, point put accross perfectly well, i know the effects of binge drinking as i got alcohol poisoning when i was 18 and survived to tell the tale thankfully and to warn others of the effects
I am happy to know that your story had a happy ending however they are many everyday that do not and i hope that this doc helps to show these facts :)
Hi i thought the film was very good and lots of information. My daughter Stacey passed away on May 22 at the age of 24 yrs from alcoholic liver disease.Yes this is a terrible illness to have and it was and still is difficult to have seen my little girl die in this way .We need better and younger education for our kids and adults.People don,t realise what it is doing to them.Louise
Hi Louise, myself and other group members do agree with you! We do need better and more informative eduction to all ages no matter if your 11 or 51! You NEED to know just what alcohol can do to your body if you abuse it with large amounts of alcohol and until they know this, more people will sadly lose there life to alcohol.
I am so sorry for your loss and do thank-you for informing me and the other viewers of this documentary on what can happen with alcohol abuse.
I have just watched your flm and had to say it was very informative. I sadly lost my niece to alcohol related liver disease aged just 24, before she passed away she took part in a channel4 documentary to help others and raise awareness about the effects of alcohol. Please take a look at 'Binge drinking the consequences' This is a growing problem and we need better education at a younger age and less availability at such cheap sale prices!
lol i know, we had a guy from the US when this was screened at uni and he said the same thing... we ran out of time so that was messed up and the bar maid sucks but cheers for the com bud
I'm a college student hoping to go to university this year, and this is one of the aspects of student life that worries me most.
I don't think I'll fit in because it seems like 95% of people are into getting drunk all the time, and see non-alcoholics like me as 'losers'.
Good documentary, though I can't help but worry of what lies ahead...

Its a MINT Uni if you are into film directing/producing and the order in which the tracks are featured are;
1) Portishead - Roads
2) Layer Cake feat. Kahuna - Hayling
3) Moby - Memory Gospel
4) Portihead - Strangers
