  • As good as the studio version is, this live take shits on it from a great height.

  • i love the little intro there by McCabe, it makes a mega song even that much more better. Gotta love his little improvs that he does on songs. That's what makes the verve

  • i was in a hotel with his missus at the time......

  • Sublime track. It has a beautiful magic to it, blissful and mysterious.

  • druggy

  • no but it starts very similar. not sure where the gravity grave single version is from

  • Is this the version on the "Gravity Grave" single?

  • Those first few seconds just give you the shivers.

  • dunno bout ashcroft solo albums but i would love mccabe to do something on his own

  • Ashcroft's solo work is godlike. Urban Hymns is practically his first solo album.

  • @remembermeforevertit do a search for "mccabe black ships"

  • @remembermeforevertit also search neotropic "la prochaine fois" and mellow "instant love"

  • One of the Verve's best songs.

  • If the Verve wouldn't have made the conscious decision in 1997 to make radio-friendly 'commercial' music then no where near as many people would be aware that they used to make 'shoegazing' music.

  • Who says it was a conscious decision? From what ive heard and read about the band, Nick Mccabe was no longer a member of the band so they pretty much just used the songs that Richard had written, which had always been more of a pop-rock mentality, thats just his style. Then they got nick back on board at the eleventh hour because richard thought the album and band were sorely missing his contribution on guitar. I dont think they necessarily set out to make an album just to make a load of cash.

  • Are they gonna tour in the states?

  • so awesome ... i wanna play this bass line so bad ....

  • welcome back Mr McCabe ;)

  • Just booked my tickets!!!! Can't believe it! Roll on November 5th!! My life is a boat being blown by you, there's nothing left just the deepest bluuuuuuuueeeeeee

  • And see the world.... through my dirty, lonely mixed up mind....Bluuuuueeee I get a question everytime I hold you.... This band are the soundtrack to my life!

  • Living with me is like keeping a fool......

    soundtrack to my life too!!!!

  • My God I cannot wait to see them in November, come onnnn!

  • yeah, i hope they come back to rip it up, not that pop urban hymns. catching the butterfly was great but i prefer this era better.

  • Thestarsare... I totally agree with you! The band were already losing it by the time Urban Hymns came out. A Northern Soul & A Storm in Heaven & No Come Down, the remix disc are the best albums ever created in my 39 years on this planet. I live for this band. Nick McCabe is a guitar god & cant wait to here their new material. Ashcroft's solo stuff made me want to top myself...The Verve forever!!!

  • The Verve return 2007

  • Does anyone know if Nick McCabe plays in any form anywhere? Love, love, love his sound!

  • Yes he plays with The Verve - They are back!

  • mccabetastic.......hes due his respest

  • or respect even

  • ashcroft is god

  • this is one of the most inspiring songs I've ever heard

  • Stunning,sadly missed.

  • wow, this is a lot better than the album version. It's so eerie...

  • i just got the verve EP the other day, this is such an amazing song!!

  • just by listening to the guitar intro you can tell it's the best live version of the song

  • thanks bring back McCabe
