My father comes from the southern Marche region of Italy, this type of music is still played there. They usually have a bagpipe, a type of recorder/flute and an organetto which is a small accordian. After I returned to the my father's town after my marriage, a troupe came and played nearly all night under our ancestral home where we were staying for a short vacation.
I usually listen to electronica..and this is easily 2nd on my list of favorite genres. I find it hard not to think of myself dancing to this. It's beautiful.
@steeve212 We listen to this music because pricks like you can't understand great music and are only attracted to shit artists like Lil' Wayne and P. Diddy.
a classic renaissance piece, very nicely played, not too fast, good flute player, and I like the Lute or whatever it is in the background, thanks for sharing!

Saltarello is an Ancient ITALIAN musi for dance. The origins of Saltarello are in the religious Culture of the early Italics populations: Etruschi, Latini...etc...
Love this music! Wish you could go to the record store and buy it today. This stuff is getting harder to find. Just at shows and stuff now. Thanks for sharing it
Perhaps Kalenda Maya is the group's name? It is the title of a song also, but the tune they are playing is definitely Saltarello and not Kalenda Maya.
Sounds like it could be a whistle of some sort (probably not tin - sound isn't that bright). Or, if this is an historically-informed recording, it could be a medieval flute (which shares quite a bit with the whistle).
Forgive my spelling and grammar, it's horrible today for some reason. I won't even bother to list corrections to things I'd normally say/type correctly..
yes, sounds like the middle ages; except of course you need to add sewage and garage in the streets, no rights for women, and superstition so barbaric as to turn your stomach; i love you people romanticize an age that were they transplanted, they would abhor
Where did I claim it was anything but? Poverty is still an issue and so is ignorance world wide. If you want to come in and trash on the middle ages when nobody was even discussing it that's fine, but to make blind moral judgments on history is laughably amateur. Witch burnings weren't common and I dare you to give me evidence they were apart of daily like. The poor still suffer worldwide from diseases that the rich do nothing to help, and it's STILL about the family you're born into. Get real!
The middle ages weren't a golden age of anything, but nobody hear claimed it was. You just came in waiting for an argument, that's the only reason you'd randomly post such a statement that's only about music. Again, if you want to make passing judgments on history then you should look to your own time and see how badly the world is outside of America and Europe, and even within the poor of these western societies still. I dare you to go live in a slum or ghetto and tell me it's humane.
apart from you rant-like argumentation, its of comon knowladge today, that the middle ages wheren't so obscure as they make it look in the past. there where a lot of advances in technology, cience, music and art. and if you have any doubt, look in the internet, there is plenty of evidence^^
plague is clearly gone; if you think there is any comparison in knowledge to a time when people burned witches at the stake, thought mental illness was demons, that the earth was the center of the universe, then i can't help you; and in western europe, where this music came from, there is also no comparison w.r.t. poverty; if you want to go back to that time, be my guest; hope you are a noble, and don't die of some awful disease easily treated now; but at least on average, you'll die by 30
Is that a recorder as the solo instrument? Sounds good. Apparently the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company is going to choreographed a dance to the music. Not sure if it's the same piece though (Saltarello). Its nice music, quite refreshing.
The ensamble is called "Kalenda Maya" they are from Sweden, the tune is "Saltarello di la pioggia", saltarello of the rain. Calenda Maya is the name of a tune composed by Rimbaud de Vaqueiras a trovadour.

@leguatorre It doesn't exist a composer. Saltarello (or fem. saltarella) is peculiar of the central Italy. You can find something on wiki.
