I live in New Jersey and i'm a veteran. I have friend that I served with thats currently attending this school and he loves everyday of it. I really am considering going myself, but with training from Guidance Helicopters what are my odds of landing a job in the helicopter industry.
Jobs are out there. If your dedicated and professional, prove yourself to be a solid pilot, there is a decent shot of getting hired on with the school then moving up from there. Don't wait, and let it pass by. Jump on this. I'm doing it and have never looked back. Ill be finished in two more semesters and cannot believe how quickly it has gone.
@SgtBenasfre - Yup post 9/11 covers it all and pays you a housing allowance. 30 is by no means to old. I was 30 when I started and have been out since 2005. If you are interested in Guidance Helicopters here in Prescott AZ, hit me up with an email and we can chat it up rjardy2@yahoo.com
@centerra100, what helicopter do you fly or train in? I have not found a down side to a robby. Any helicopter can kill you...
@rjardy Looks like a great school but since I am former IDF military they won't pay for me to attend so I'm better off going to Florida for training. Anyway, I don't think I'm really looking at flying helicopters for a careers but I'd love to get my private pilot licence, instrument rating and night flying. Anyway, guidance does look like an awesome school, especially for US Military that need high altitude training.
This is the school I go to. I love it. The staff is great and very helpful. Im lucky enough to have the program paid in full by the post 9/11 GI bill. I have had to come out of pocket for literally nothing. Im thirty years old and have done some fun and exciting things with my life, but this tops them all. I recommend anyone that may be interested, to look into it. Flying helicopters is a blast, and it beats working for a living.
@rjardy So the 9/11 GI Bill will pay for all of it?! That is exciting news. I have been wanting to do this for a long time but the costs are insane. I'll be about thirty by the time I get out of the military as well. I can't wait to start this!
The most common way to become a pilot is to spend about $60k to be a flight instructor. This allows you to build hours without costing you more money. You need several hours of flight before you can make enough to start paying back loans. Helicopter training schools know you need the hours so they pay you very little, all while interest is building on you loans. After about 2500hrs, people can find work in the gulf of mexico transporting people to the offshore rigs.Pays about 45k to start
Yupp... I flight train there. Just finished my Private Pilot add-on for helicopters. The instructors there top notch and care a lot about their students.
I am currently on my Instrument rating at Guidance Helicopters, I have nothing but GOOD things to say about this school. From what I hear about other schools this is one of the BEST schools in the helicopter industry.
Thanks, i really appreciate it. I have a meeting with someone named kurt on thursday to see what it is all about. i am really excited. I really have no aviation background, but i graduated high school with a 3.6. would you say this field is really difficult? Thanks again for answering my questions.
Flying helicopters is a really tough, but it beats any other job in the world. I recommend talking to a few people at Guidance, JJ is the main one, and possibly talk to some of the instructors. If possible you should also look into an intro flight, to see if you really like it or not.
