Not every kayaker knows to stay out of the way. Here in Memphis, they like to paddle North of the I-40 bridge & get between the barges & the bank w/o noticing the wires holding the barges in the fleet. The wires can be pulled up as the barges move around and either guillotine the kayakers or flip the boat over.Either way is dangerour so they shoudl stay clear of motorized traffic no matter what the Rulles of the Road say.
trust me, thats my boat, turning a barge full of 30k barrels of oil around here is tight. 300 foot long barge river is 400 foot wide with barges tied up on both sides. We usually operate with less than 25 feet of clearance. It is nerve racking. Then Kayaks come along and scare the shit out of us. thank you for staying out of the way.
