  • Seeing eye dogs are not the only type of service animal, I thought this video would address that. Also, Not all service animals are certified as such, so you won't always get papers verifing this.

  • one more thing....People First Language- IS A MUST! I have met Kathie Snow, who began the "PFL" crusade! Her and her family are amazing!

Anyone who has a "DD" or have family with disabilities should read her book "Disability is Natural". I have searched youtube for her but no luck!

  • A Developmental Disability is a category of different types of

disabilities. Developmental disabilities include disabilities like

intellectual disabilities (mental retardation), but also other physical

disabilities as well like cerebral palsy or Down's Syndrome.

Developmental disabilities are diagnosed prior to the age of 22 and last

a life time. Mental illness may be diagnosed throughout a person's life

and may not last the person's whole life (like depression).

  • Individuals who have a mental illness that is significant enough that it

impairs their ability to function in life: at work, home and in the

community are considered to have a disability. There is diagnostic

criteria that determines which mental illness a person has. This

criteria is set forth in a book called the Diagnostic and Statistical

    Manual of Mental Disorders.

  • What's the differnce between a disabilty and Mental illness? Is it like asthma vs ADD?
