This technique puts you in the danger zone for the scissor sweep... When my instructor first introduced the scissor sweep he had our opponent put one leg up becuase it helps those still developing their hip speed to fall to the opposite side of the up leg and execute the scissor sweep.
How do you do the tech and avoid the scissor sweep?
I understand that every move comes with inherent risks, but man this move just seems to beg a kneebar or sweep.....I dont think you could put your foot far enough away that he cant just shrimp and grab it.
Thats the first thing I look for when someone is breaking my guard, to see if when they stand up the leg plants close.
I assure you that this technique works VERY effectively. Matt Serra is the one that worked extensively with me on this technique- and is one of the first guard passes that he teaches new students.
There are many different variations and setups. Please post your questions in the MMA discussion board at our site and there over 1,000 members who would be happy to help you out.
Yes, but in the vid I would have swept the guy. Unless you stood up on the foot rather than the knee, and had it back instead of forward like in the vid. Just being critical, w/e.
Keep it far enough away from your opponents reach that he can't grab it to sweep you with. Please post your question in our MMA Discussion Board, and there will be plenty of people who will be happy to help you. Thanks.

@TheScamr You do have to be careful to avoid the scissor sweep, but with your weight properly distributed, you should be out of danger.
The biggest area of concern is for people who put their foot up too close to their opponent and he gets an underhook.
