If you are English you therefore use the si system and one billion is 1,000,000,000 or 1000 * 1,000,000. Some countries (foreign speaking/ non English countries) define the it as 1,000,000 * 1,000,000. So in a way we are both right. Have a good day :D
@MrDirkles Well to be fair, we do use 1,000 x 1,000,000 as one billion nowadays, since the seventies I think. However, when I say "we", myself and an awful lot more people stick to the traditional way so I will always call it one thousand million and refer to one billion as, one million times one million.
I also love the music to these ads, I remember it very well as a child, I still get goose bumps when I hear it now, it seems quite exciting!! Wish Esso would make some in this style again that would be great!!
TRIVIA The Siberian tiger in the Esso tv ads in the 1970s was called Tessa she was born in captivity Esso paid £25.000 to find her a new home after the council evicted her from Kington Langley Wild Life Centre in Chippenham Wilts in 1998 She died in 2004 aged 27 Today Esso have pledged nearly £2 million to Save The Tiger Fund and conservation of wild tigers threatened with extintion a beautifully shot ad so memorable 1978 that was 1st shown
Investment?. The stations all look the bloody same today.

@williamkanegateshead
Wrong!
1,000,000 x 1000 = 1,000,000,000 or one billion

Mike Oldfield? SKY? Hayzee Fantazi? That's a joke by the way, but I do wish Esso would answer this once and for all.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't Jeff Wayne.....it's very WOTW'ish.

I thought the composer might be Alan Hawkshaw. Don't know though. Perhaps a bit too orchestral. First class.

The one that ran across the ice in the unleaded ad was called Kipling. I work part time at a wildlife park with the girl who used to be his keeper.
