In my opinion the justice dept should not have allowed that. Fearing the judge would change his mind, R.P. fled before trial.

Read the transcripts. They are online. He admitted to raping her if they agreed to drop the other charges which carried extra jail time. He learned the judge might still be harsh with him, so he fled the country. Fast forward thirty years, and here we are.

Woopie is a smart enough woman to know that just because the charges were changed from rape to a lesser charge, DOES NOT MEAN THAT A RAPE DID NOT OCCURE!! She was making her stand clear. We all read between the lines. She could have said more about, the injustice but she was VERY careful to NOT say to much, even the next day.

I think if you consider the context that she was talking about what he was being charged with as opposed to the act itself. In her clarification mid video she even says 'all I'm talking about is what he was charged with'.

But he WAS charged with rape. Along with other charges such as furnishing controlled substances to a minor with the intent to commit rape. All the charges were serious w/ potential for a 50 year sentence. He plea bargained----in order to NOT be tried as a rapist, & for the other charges to be dropped as well, he agreed to plead guilty to having sex with a minor. In my opinion the justice dept should not have allowed that. Fearing the judge would change his mind, R.P. fled before trial.

I vaguely recall a tv interview Goldberg did years ago where she seemed to be saying that it wasn't real that bad in the former Communist East Germany-I'm going from memories, this is from my youth but she seemed to be saying that the shootings/murders by East German border guards against their own citizens who were tryin to escape the regime by running towards the Berlin Wall-was propoganda. She lived there at some point and said it 'wasn't bad' or some shit. As an American she would know.

Well-the D.A. stated that if brought back Polanski would be immediately sentenced-and THEN 'there are 5 or 6 other charges' pending. I hope that means Polanski is phucked. I would prefer by a cellmate who makes him his bitch but Polanski unfortunately has children so that will have to remain just a wish on my part..

This was a full 8 yrs after those murders. Tragedy in one's life does not excuse one's own actions. He plead guilty and ran b/c he felt he would not get a fair deal. Well, boo hoo. The fact that Polanski's mother died at Auschwitz, and that his wife and child were butchered does not give old Roman a Child Rape Pass. He is not the only concentration camp survivor-and though Sharon Tate is the most famous there were a total of I believe 8 victims in a 2 day Manson 'Family' rampage-Tate, Steve Parent, Abigail Folger, Woczek Frykowski, Jay Sebring, Leno and Rosemary Labianca were butchered as well and I don't think any of their loved ones went on to rape children.

if you sit there and watch it again you will see she is only clarifying what he is actually convicted with, or at least what she thought he is convicted with. from what i can see she doesn't say what he did was right, she says the court convicted him with "insert what it was here" not actual rape.

They plea bargained because the victim's family did not want her to have to go through a trial where she would have to relive this ordeal over again and have her identity revealed which happened anyways since Polanski ran and this story has been in the public eye since then. Even though she now says she wants to move on, she has not changed her story about the rape. Read her testimony on thesmokinggun website.
