Dr.Chee gets my respect but for democracy in Sing. and Malaysia (I'm a Malaysian) to mature and become like our western European counterparts where the people have the right to vote out the ruling party, it will not happen in our lifetime. We need people like Dr.Chee to spark it off and history will remember people like him who started it all.

Ruling parties here will not respect the decision of the electorate if they lose but will declare martial law if their gerry mandering didn't work

Policies should not be only about dollars and cents, a minister's job involves a level of compassion. If profit & loss/efficiency factors are just the priority, you do not deserve to be a minister. Is the high pay for minister justifiable? Mr Obama does not even get paid as highly and he is the president of the most influential country in the world, take note he even has to make decision on a WORLD STAGE and our ministers are only at best, doing the job of a mayor in US. If the reason is to prevent corruption, then I post another question, does that means if without that high of a pay they WOULD corrupt? If is it then I worry about the integrity of the people we are voting as minster....

Michael Palmer struck me as competent and reasonable, while CSJ came across as needlessly sarcastic with him. I am also in favour of high Ministerial pay; at least in Singapore, we know exactly what our leaders are being paid, while in certain other countries there are Ministers who ostensibly receive far less, but in actuality receive far more in terms of questionable 'fringe benefits'.

@chromodomo I agree too. To have good managers, you need to pay for them. That is a merit based system. Alot of people forget how much Ministers also have to sacrifice at their position. There are a lot of businessmen and professionals who make more than 4 mil a year that can do anything that Ministers morally cannot. They are scrutinized and have to hold accountability to their actions that regular people do not.
