Dr.Chee gets my respect but for democracy in Sing. and Malaysia (I'm a Malaysian) to mature and become like our western European counterparts where the people have the right to vote out the ruling party, it will not happen in our lifetime. We need people like Dr.Chee to spark it off and history will remember people like him who started it all.
Ruling parties here will not respect the decision of the electorate if they lose but will declare martial law if their gerry mandering didn't work
Hello>>Palmer guy. I like MMLee n PMLee but I think it is mighty rude of you to be deliberately turning the pages to show your disinterest because Chee is speaking now. You wouldn't like it vice-versa too, would you?
I respect Dr Chee .... He is brave and passionate and his love for country is really incredible... willing to sacrifice being sued and arrested so many times... Is it for money? No!!!!! ITs to wake us up!!!!
you speak the truth! everyone knows that but is afraid to admit it and it takes a man,a REAL man who is part of the people to speak for the people- In time to come, the majority of the general public will come to understand that for i already saw what you envisioned for singapore and for the people- You will always be our voice and for that i thank you Dr Chee-
Michael Palmer, you are rude and insolent. You are the one who is missing the point. You are lining your pocket, while there are some very poor people who would live with just a very small fraction of what you earn. Your disinterest only shows who you really are.
instead of listening attentively and try to rationalise d whole situation..dat michael palmer totally showed disgust n total lack of interesn dis dingbatt.why is dat so? Dr Chee isn''t spouting nonsense.itz d truth for all we know.n dis dingbat Palmer choose not to aceept straightfoward facts. u;re a GONER man.
Why are these forums not broad casted by MediaCorp, nor are these forums reported in our newspapers.
Policies should not be only about dollars and cents, a minister's job involves a level of compassion. If profit & loss/efficiency factors are just the priority, you do not deserve to be a minister. Certain political figures persuaded hawker stalls to avoid raising their prices recently, which was absolutely disgusting after
parliamentary wages were raised heavily. Cheers to the hypocrisy.
The same thing that is happening in singapore is happening all around the world. Inflation? Recession? Unemployment? Rising Food Cost?.. List goes on.
I believed that the new members who share the same passion with you and stand beside you had made you more confidents! You are not alone, people will vote for you and your from now in consideration and respect on what you have sacrafied all these years! Do not failed the voters and the people of Singapore; same that the voters and people o Singapoe will never forget you and supports you!!!!
inspiration speech! Where is the details? Who is he? Just pop up from no where again?! HUMBLE?! oh ooooo !?90 over % are will illiterate?! check the facts..... There is y the work fare and reemployment of elderly are reemployed! Smart economy are in the pipeline?! progressively, can you do it in 5 years with what you said? Show me the details
will reduce minister pay increase the salary of the security guard ???
what is the impact of reducing minister pay???
we see what happen in some first world country that govt official make unreasonable claim on expenses. running a country is like running a business. what we pay a business leader we should pay our govt leader.
@sgtle2 perhaps one should ask the question the other way around. Will the increase in salary of the minister who is suppose to served the security guard help the security guard?
i reckon michael palmer should show a bit of respect for the opposition. he's just looking arrogant and bored and uninterested. after all, OUR CONCERNS are all just "noise" to the PAP. how much more evident can it be? that our concerns are NOT PAP's concerns.. HOW can they understand ?? when they are living in altogether another sphere.
That Palmer chap from PAP is very very rude. You look at his body language. He continue to read while Dr. Chee is talking. This is unbecoming of an MP. Do you want to vote for an MP who show disinterest when you are discussing the country's issues? Definitely not me. it sickens me.
Mr Palmer, I just want to say your attitude is really suck to the public. I will definitely not to cast my vote to you on this coming election for sure.
This opposition acts only as an alternative voice. A voice with opinions but no solution. Says that Ministers should be paid a lot less even though they may be earning a lot more if they were in private practice, removing talent where we need them most. I'd rather pay 4 million to have someone with solutions to run my country than someone who can only talk and talk and talk...
All these "targeted assistance" rubbish, on theory always sounds. Go try applying for 1 and you will know. All the means testing, this and that, end of the day give you a $20 transport voucher and then ask you to F off. That is IF you are "eligible" for them in the first place.
Is the high pay for minister justifiable? Mr Obama does not even get paid as highly and he is the president of the most influential country in the world, take note he even has to make decision on a WORLD STAGE and our ministers are only at best, doing the job of a mayor in US. If the reason is to prevent corruption, then I post another question, does that means if without that high of a pay they WOULD corrupt? If is it then I worry about the integrity of the people we are voting as minster....
Michael Palmer struck me as competent and reasonable, while CSJ came across as needlessly sarcastic with him. I am also in favour of high Ministerial pay; at least in Singapore, we know exactly what our leaders are being paid, while in certain other countries there are Ministers who ostensibly receive far less, but in actuality receive far more in terms of questionable 'fringe benefits'.
CSJ is just rehashing an old argument and trying to be sensationalist. I am in support of the high ministerial pay, otherwise we may just get imbeciles like CSJ in govt.
@chromodomo I agree too. To have good managers, you need to pay for them. That is a merit based system. Alot of people forget how much Ministers also have to sacrifice at their position. There are a lot of businessmen and professionals who make more than 4 mil a year that can do anything that Ministers morally cannot. They are scrutinized and have to hold accountability to their actions that regular people do not.
@chromodomo is due to the high ministerial pay tat there are imbeciles and useless ministers, ministers who cant even handle a flood, when japanese ministers who get paid 10 times less can handle a 8.9 scale earthquake.
@chromodomo they are getting paid from the taxes you and our fellow singaporeans pay. so kudos to you that you dont mind them getting paid 30k or more a month with the taxes that YOU pay, while you earn 5k or less. logic = fail
@chromodomo That's ridiculous. The ministers are merely perpetuating the income inequality/gap in Singapore. No amount of salaries can prevent corruption. To suggest that high ministerial pay can prevent corruption is an open-ended argument and if that's the case, we should believe too, that getting a ridiculously high salary is also related to poor performance.
if you've been living in singapore for the past 5 years, or even paid attention to the MSM, you'll know we ALREADY have imbeciles in the government. old argument, yes, but pertinent and relevant nonetheless.
The initial few mins Michael Palmer showed no interest in what Dr Chee was saying. What disrespect! Dr Chee sound really logical, lucid, and brought his points across very well. He certainly has changed my opinion about him. Good job!
