  • thinnk its in F but what mode ?

  • SMOKIN,LOL.

  • Excellent solo. Sounds like Bartolini pickups- that "Bart" sound.... :-(

  • It takes a special talent to play a bass solo that long, And still keep peoples attention. Well done sir, Well done.

  • Winslowwwwww!!!

  • Amazing solo

  • lol great solo, Also great bass faces :)

  • Hello ! I'm from Brazil, very good sound !

  • hey someone know wich bass is he playing?

  • @busccini Looks to me like an Overwater of some variety.

  • super bueno !!!!!! espero llegar a tocar así algún día, se ve que lo disfruta

  • Impressive bass solo. This dude has serious chops. Basskat Michael G Detroit MI. USA

  • 9 People are Morons.

  • Amazing!

  • If you cropped out everything but his head, you'd think that he was getting a message or something… not bustin' out a sweet bass solo haha

  • You got soul Brother!

  • Now that... was impressive.

  • Loose some kilo's bro...

  • THIS is my BOY here!!! Go head, Ron!!! I'm proud of you, man. Thanks for teaching me all of this stuff you just did. NOW, I'm going to go practice... right after the A-team goes off... You ARE the Man!!!

  • Smokin RON HALL !!

  • Sounds really good. . im gettin there!

  • Great solo. I have got to study more to put something like this together. I agree that drummers need to learn how to comp while the bass player is doing his thing. I was taking a solo at a gig and the drummer stepped all over it. I knew it, the crowd knew it and atfer the gig he asked me if I had a metronome. it was my solo and I couldn;t take it where I wanted. Shit all he has to do was shut up and let me go.

  • if i saw that guy in kfc i wouldn't never ever believe he even knew what is a bass. confusing

  • Give the bass soloist a little more room Mr. Drummer. Not quite so "In yo face with the skins. The man need some space to his groove going. Nice job.

  • who could seriously dislike this?

  • all black people steal bikes, have never met their children, smoke crack, and play the shit out of the bass.

  • thumps up if you came here just because MarloweDK liked it!

  • PAUSE AT 0:51

    LEGENDARY!

  • Uncle Phill playing a bass solo *-* lol

  • I wonder how to they get his punchy slick sound... I wan't to get that too on my GK 1001RB-II and MM Sting5... Any1 has any ideas how to do it?

  • @popace I've been wondering exactly the same..

I've got a MM Stingray5 Earnie Ball music man and I too wanna find that perfect tone!

I guess having a good amp on which you can find a good tone is important. Finding the right settings on your bass too, in conjunction with your amp is also how...just mess around with it a bit. Finally, having a good pair of strings helps..but I don't know what type or gauge....sorry I've been so general!

Hit me back if you find out how.

  • @bananafingerrrs

I know all this :) Definately the right amps and strings make the sound. But it's not everything. You can have additional preamps, effects, external EQ's, that can crucially shape the sound into your thing.

That's why I sold the Hartke set and bought myself the GK 1001RB-II and the GK 212 for the cab, and now it works perfect. But I'm still looking for the right thing, messing up the eq's and stuff :) GK and MM is born to be together :) Perfect combo for the Sting :)

  • @popace Thanks for all your info mate!

Now...you might think I'm completely clueless, but could you enlighten me as to what the GK 1001RB-II and the GK 212 cab etc stuff is...I'm going to admit I don't know a huge amount about amps and would really like to know some of the details!! I understand it's an amp but that's the extent of my knowledge on what you said!

Could you help? I've got a MM stingray 5...you say GK amps get a good tone?

  • @bananafingerrrs

Well, GK amps are born to be paired with the MM :)

Flea of the RHCP, Fugazi, and many others are still using GK heads.

But it all ends down on what you want. If you need a warmer sound, try Ampeg SVT series for ex. if you want more attack, GK is the most punchy and growling. That's why it goes well with the MM as it's low action needs the punch from the amp. EBS, SWR, Hartke, Mark Bass, Kustom Groove Bass these are all good amps too... And many others.

  • @bananafingerrrs

Here, this is the same set that I have. Sound is quite similar, very punchy, full of attack, just a little bit more than in this vid, as the MM is much more responsive, than the Stocktons bass.

  • @popace Cheers buddy you've helped me out a lot!

I'm always torn between the sound I wanna create...but I reckon I'd rather home in on the growly, punchy tone of a GK line of amps. My ideal tone would be the one Tom Barney has when he played for Steely Dan on Two Against Nature on Gaslighting Abbie. So Sweet!

Out of interest...could you give me a rough estimate on price ranges for GK amp and cab...I need to know how much I need to save as a student!

Thanks for all the help :D

  • @bananafingerrrs

Yeah, no problem man :) Any more questions, feel free to ask :)

Am... Well the GK1001RB-II is somewhere between 750 and 800€, and the NEO 410, which would be awesome with this head, is roughly 600€. Alltogether it's a near 1400€ investment, but it's worth every dime.

We, bassists have luck, that amplifiers aren't so damn expensive like guitar amps are...

For 800€ you get a GK1001RB-II which is already a top professional head. Isn't it awesome :)

  • @bananafingerrrs

    /watch?v=AxzwHmEnRZs

  • @popace Thanks man that video was pretty good...Now you've got me wanting a sweet GK setup! Only problem is I'm a student and therefore I don't have much money! Nevertheless, it sounds soo good with a GK set up so I will start saving.

Sorry for another question, but what gauge and type of strings do you use for our MM to get that funky, punchy tone?

    Thanks again! :)

  • @bananafingerrrs

I'm a student too, but every single dime I earn, I spend for the music. And it is then no problem to buy amps and stuff :)

Am strings... Regular Slinky coated (titan coat as I remember), can be only regular slinky non coated, the only difference is in endurance (the coated strings keep their original tone longer than non coated), then you can use Elixirs, than DR's, maybe the ones from Bootsy Collins, and if you can get ones, the Flea signature strings :) Awesome strings:)

  • @popace

Hey you seem to know a lot about strings! And I, well, don't.

Anyway, I've been using the same strings for two years… is that bad?

  • @blueblob4 Well it depends on what sound do you want to get out from your bass. Yes, strings make helluva difference if new or old. Old strings give you more fatness, but they cut the treble, while new strings give you a more heavy, sustained sound. It depends on strings which sound they give you when they're fresh, but to put it in one word - more "metallic" grungy and sharp sound. You know what I mean? :P

  • @bananafingerrrs Your strings, bass and amp are important for great tone. So are your hands. The way you hold and play your instrument.

  • @bassistdc Hey thanks for the info man!

In terms of the kind of playing this guy is doing...could you recommend a set up strings wise? I'm never sure what make or gauge to go for!

If you could help you'd be a legend!

  • this bass solo is fantastic but, bass solos suck in comparison to guitar solos. :( They just are epic enough nor do they have the range.

  • @bnel890 now now hold the phone..yes there are way more legendary Guitar solos than Bass solos but that doesnt mean that there are no EPIC bass solos..listen to some Dream Theater and Old Metallica..John Myung and Cliff Burton are AMAZING bassists and have solos that pound many guitar solos into the ground

  • @Silverone43 agreed anesthesia is pretty dope, and myung is insane, but still bass just sounds like it gets off track often. But one bass solo/ song that will always be a fav is the theme song to toejam and earl for sega genesis. Excep played on an actual bass. Les claypool in oysterhead did some sweet stuff too. Check it out if you havent, Lead bass and rythm guitar

  • @bnel890 i LOVE Les Claypool..that guy is in a league of his own in my opinion and id say that pretty much sums it up cuz he actually tried out for Metallica after Cliff died and they turned him down only based on the fact that hes in his own world musically lol

  • This what it's all about!!! Keep funkin' Ron m'man!!!

  • who the fuck is ron hall, this is fucken lame ,this shit sucks ,dont get me wrong i like bass but this is jazz or some shit i fucken hate jazz

  • @1CRAZYGUY3 if you never practis jazz bass you will never be a good bass man ;)

  • @1CRAZYGUY3 lol das cool man... then don't fuck around with it. meanwhile ill be over here with my big dick and my jazz, gettin bitches and not givin a fuck

  • @1CRAZYGUY3 you obviously don't know shit about the bass, how can you like the bass and not like this? you should kill your self.

  • @1CRAZYGUY3 So you like bass, and hate jazz? lol You must be between 12 and 15.

  • @ilovebluexnick So, so wrong there mate. It's a boutique Jazz Bass of some sort. I'd say it's an LEJ, but I don't think it is.

  • @sickdiggitydog It's a Moon JB Made In Japan. And you're right it's a boutique bass, kind of rare and top quality.

  • VERY NICE NEED !!!!!!!!!!!

  • this man puts E string humpers to shame!

  • True mastery. I love it.

  • he s like george porter jr n juan nelson.A school of bassists that proves that you dont need tapping, double thumping n all this stuff to be a good bassist, just groove n melody n the basic of technique n theory(but i m more of a chatterbox whe n it comes to that, meaning i like tapppin g n stuff,in genres like metal etc etcc),but these guys are the real deal i think,God bless them:)

  • geees it dosnt madder if you black white u have to have skills and the ear and the knowlged of what u doing i mean look at steve baley he look like a ex porn star and he got a lot of skills that most black bass players dont have so there u have it
