  • loved this in the 80s, cool.....

  • I love this song for a lot of reasons, but most especially for its fun use of alliteration! Brilliant! :o)

  • I'm an English teacher and I actually use this to teach alliteration ;)

  • :o)

  • Im gonna go look up that word and get back to you.

  • i think it has to do with 'snorting one under the table'...er sumptin like that

  • ..wtf

  • finally the original video (made in Sydney Australia) is posted. Thankyou for the upload

  • Absoloute Ledgend :)

  • All of his music is good, that being said his best years were in the 70s to mid 80s.

  • i love all of it... but what you think is great is personal opinion.

  • All the eras are great! 70´s,80´s, 90´s!!! He is the the champion of the duets and still make some awesome performances alive!

  • nice thing about this song is that its talking about sad songs but it makes you want to dance...lol..

  • I agree, Despite being a 'Sad Song" it always makes me happy :)

  • I have to say that I always thought this song was awesome because it's talking about sad songs and is yet so upbeat....and reading all posts here...I gotta say..Elton is Elton...it's ALL good! Love the old and the new! His voice has changed somewhat but I adore all of his stuff....

  • I'm not EJ bashing, please understand and I do respect your opnion of EJ's music. My main point would be that his albums were best in the 70's. His Singles from the 80's and 90's are just as good, but the albums were just not up to snuff...that's all.

  • yeah great music but this guy is uffly as fuck..he looks like a fat butchy lesbian nowadays. cant watch his videos

  • this must be a old song 0.o

  • It was from his "Breaking Hearts" album in 1984. He really had a hit-n-miss career in the 80's. The 70's were his best era! Still a great song though, watch out for his stuff in the 90's and current. YIKES!

  • I don't agree with you joey1127. To me 90'es were his best era.

  • Well, Record Sales and Hit Singles Sales would agree with me... Elton had his Swan Song in the 1970's. His biggest seller of the 90's was the Princes Dianna thing. Oh yeah, he still had his original voice in the 70's too!

  • Elton's record sales were much better in 90'es than in 80'es.His "The One " album from 1992.sold better than any his albums since 1976. His The Lion King was sold in millions and his albums Made In England and The Big Picture too.On the other hand, quantity doesn't mean quality.Although 70'es Elton is great, only snobs listen to only 70's Elton, while true music lovers who don't have prejudice listen Elton through all eras because Elton was great in every decade no matter how much albums he sold

  • Yeah, NO! I was there, heard the music...saw the peoples reaction...Sorry, the 70's were it for Elton. ...and he has said this himslef. 1968 - 1975 was the BEST of Elton John.

  • Elton's 1989-2006 era is great just like his 70'es era. For your information Elton's first album was released in 1969, not in 1968 and that album is not consider even near to be one of his best. He admitted in 1976 that he is "bisexual" and that's reason for lower record sales after. If you want to sound competent, then you have to listen all Elton's albums, because like this you only sound like you are repating what somebody else said many times before you or you simply has a poor music taste.

  • I stand by my statement, the 70's was Eltons best era. His main decline in record sales was because he tried to change his direction and also tried to write his own songs without Bernie (check out "a Single Man" from '78)...the bi-sexual issue was never a problem for me...I bought his music, not his life.

  • No, I'm pretty sure I know what good music is. I have a recording collection probobly worth more than the home you live in. Original master tapes and lots of stuff never released or heard of...so I know something about music.

  • SUUUUURREE YOU KNOW! ... good boy ;)

  • Joey, you may have a music collection worth more than most peoples home but who cares? His 70's are great, to you, I'm 42, his 80's were great to me because they wee the times of my life. The argument could rage on but in the end, it's the songs that lift you that will be considered the best.....

  • Best song ever EVER made

  • I love this song soo much...great song

  • Love Elton John's songs so much...probably the millionth person to say that, but anyway.

  • the best song ever

  • i lost my reputation and popularity so im like all over elton john songs

  • my 2nd favourite Elton song from the 80s

  • elton is so cool

  • haha whats with the trenchcoats in the 80's xD rick roll status right there

  • beginning of the song, the music is fantastic!

  • i like candle in the wind who cares if hes gay

  • thank you elton

  • my favorite Elton song.Listened to this on way to work in early 80's.

  • hmm..elton was cute when he was young, too bad he was gay. i would've dated him xD.

  • HEY! That's the same red ribbon hat from the Nekita video. WOW, you don't see ANY recycling in videos anymore.

  • good song what a classic

  • Gotta love the suit...

  • Only the good die young...

  • elton john didn't die...

  • elton is a living legend, the same as "queen" is.

  • Queen isn't entirely "living"...

  • Elton john is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I think this is his best song besides pinball wizzard

  • What an amazing song and even more amazing video!! Thanks to syd8965 for the share.

  • Elton John is a great classic.

  • The only problem with this video is when Elton John is with the dancers. The difference between the dancers' and John's moves is embarrassing.

  • Love it,even after all these years.Elton is still one of the greatest singers of all time.Timeless indeed.A+++++++++++

  • how is this song sad?

does anyone know any really depressing songs, please?

  • It's not a sad song, it's a song about sad songs.

  • How it ends - Devotchka (It's really sad)

  • awesome video! one of elton john's best songs too. you cannot listen without singing along, or at least tapping your toes!

  • It feels so good to hurt so bad,

and suffer just enough to sing the blues

  • I can listen to almost NO Elton John song without smiling. Only his funeral songs get me to tears. But that is proof, his songs are just so great!

  • I challenge anyone to find anybody that this CLASSIS doesn't strike home with! KILLER SONG...........thx 4 postin

  • first song ever recorded on my first video player

  • luv it

  • powerful lyrics he always says just a little more than most

  • this was at the time of the Watford-Everton cup final. Thanks for all the great memories, Elton!

  • Excellant Song .

  • 1984...very especial year..

  • this is in this video we see Elton is a good Pianist!not a dancer lolll

  • GENIUS!

  • cool song.

  • I was looking for a sad song because I was listening to Boston and was reminded of something unfortunate. Then began reading the article about how Brad killed himself and I got really sad... so I was looking for a sad song, but this song made me happy, but then I made this post which reminded me about Brad and I'm sad again... aww... Anyway, great song.

  • great song. i love this song and its not so sad s it makes me happy...if that makes any sense???

  • Rickmansworth, thanks Elton

  • one of the best

    so much hidden meaning

  • lol is this supposed to take place during the Great Depression or something? lmao

  • good song man

  • extremely gay video, halirous. but a great song!

  • great song!! Elton John is the shit love all his songs especially this one and yea i listen to it while drinking but its the truth about the song. sometimes all hope is gone and we turn to what? SAD SONGS

  • cheeeeers banda

  • This brings back so many great memories. We actually had the single on vinyl. My grandma loved this song. Thanks.

  • GREAT SONG!!

  • Good drinking music!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You got that right! That's what I'm doing right now!!

  • Hahaha.

  • Damn straight!

  • Sir Elton John is the king!

  • what? 78452312 my comment (so?) is not for you comment its ok?

  • Thank god for Sir.Elton John.Classic. To bad we dont have more classics like this one.

People if you dont like SIR.Elton John ,why are you on his music page????

Your jealous thats all it is.

  • so?

  • What does your opinion mean & matter?

  • It would be cool if I was asked to sing this song at work (Wal-Mart). (I think I could), I know the track well enough.

  • Does Elton John get along with Phil Collins? They never did a duo.

  • EJ doesn't represent 80s music whatsoever. Springsteen, Duran-duran, Men at Work, culture club are the 80s. This guy's 70s.

  • and 80's he had success in both decades....

  • who is put the stupid comment now?

  • about this song i look for it because i like elton john... know i hope you anderstand why i comment ok? thanks (sorry for my english)

  • you are very unfair i know that you like very much elton john but that it dosen't mean that you can judge my opininions for any song and that what you do talk about for the music i hear you revenge me because i comment a star you like. And something else i have more reasons to comment because except the music i hear and put to my profile i listen more 60'80'90' music than anyone else i know about every singer and song in that age oh and i know elton johns very well and when i hear

  • Fuck what these assholes have to say.. Bottom line is elton john sings good music. So amen to Elton.

  • PITTA, pop for teens and masses like Britney S. that you like is less awful? You should learn something about music before you posted such stupid comment.

I don't have anything against opinions of other people, but sometimes it is evident that people like you don't know what they're talking about. It is enough for me to look at your profile. I have albums from Britney,Aguilera,Timberlake and all such mostly crap. If you think they have ONE better song than "Sad Songs", you are deluded then.

  • another comment for me...People seem to laugh about the 80's 'cheese' in the video...Lets be honest, this doesn't even touch the cheesiness of many 80s videos...pretty tame by comparison

  • who cares if kids born in the 90's think this video is funny. most have no clue what the world was like before the internet and wireless phones.

love this song. didn't they make this song into a blue jeans commercial?

  • elton john's persona and music are only to be revered and nothing else...perhaps the only people that get a "pass" in poking fun at him are matt stone and trey parker when they do it on South Park. Otherwise, EJ is truly a rock/pop legend and icon. Plus...let's not forget that this video was made in the 80's.

  • OH MY GOD thats so freaking funny LMAO!!

  • @ ninja2211

wth are you smoking? elton john is a fucking legend! this isnt supposed to be funny, its a great song. i dont know what your problem is, but i know a lot of people who enjoy this song a lot.

  • hahahah wat the fuck hahah wat the hell hhahahah im goign to pee my self this is fucking funny!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Elton is a legend!

  • this is an 80s song and that is a fact....but i hate that 80s sound...though this is still a terrific song...elton john is a living legend

  • fabulous song!!!

  • i have to agree, even though the song is called sad songs it promotes happiness and hope

very clever thats why i have his golden alblum

  • That red outfit is awesome. He looks like a turn of the century pimp lol.

  • Elton John is the GREATEST...

  • One of the first songs I can remember on the radio... I was 4 years old when it came out ;)

  • great Elton John song.

  • A great song & a great video; and far from being gay (I have three kids and a beautiful wife) two of my fav singers were: EJ and Freddie Mercury. I just don't care. Enjoy what they have done for the music.

  • i second that.

  • a good song if you want to get over something

  • My favorite by Elton John

  • How they do the 4 elton's? and was he gay at this point?

  • he didn't come out until 1988.. and they probably overlaid the film over itself in that take.

  • pretty sure he was but in the closet, not too sure though... seriously whats with all the gay cowboys? everyone had to know he was gay at this point

  • He was not openly gay in the 80's!

  • this song is the bomb!

  • The irony for me is that listening to this tribute to sad songs has always made me feel great! Whenever I hear it I want to sing and dance. :). Wasn't familiar with the vid.. love the vid!
