  • reminds me their intense live version of 1975 in Evanston.

  • Oh, yeah! What an incredible quartet! Burton gave Metheny his start back in the '70's, and it's great to see that they can still burn it up in their own inimitable fashion.

  • What a nice trio, burton and metheny!

  • ... and Steve Swallow's bass & Antonio Sanchez's drums... what a quarter!!!

  • Love this groove! ( ^ _ ^ )

  • sea journey, chick corea.

    excellent piece, very well played.

  • I had an opportunity to listen to them live. The best concert in my life so far :) Love them all!

  • i saw these guys perform this live... it was amazingg! Gary Burton quartet is so unique and truly a musical colaboration of geniouses. idk why im saying this i cant even understand how good they are lol

  • this is some cool music

  • GREAT MUSICIANS.

  • circularity? not sure what that means...he sounds like every other college drummer - u mean berklee? hummmm...i dont think so. btw i played with him in college and he sounds really fuckin good - not like he when first got to berklee - just ask him. hey u got any of ur music posted online? peace, -d

  • Sorry, but I don´t get it.

Circularity? You should better ask "lanerant".

  • i sure hope metheny gets tired of playing with this drummer, he sounds too much like Wertico! too many cymbals, too much everything all the time!

    I want Bill Stewart back!

  • what is it about antonio that u dont like? i think he burns it up with metheny.

  • I'm not a fan of the density and circularity of is playing.

It has this constant cymbal rat a tat tat that just sounds like every college jazz drummer I've ever heard or played with.

But before people go giving this a hundred thumbs down, I am not saying he's a shitty drummer, obviously he's great, but just like I prefer Pat to Sco or maybe Pat to Dimeola would be a more apt comparison, I prefer Bill Stewart and Jim Black (i.e. linear drummers) to Antonio, plus he looks to serious and angry: )

  • @lanerant this was posted a really long time ago, but you should check out his solo album- its not like that at all

  • @davidhilton Antonio burns up everything he plays! Dude is awesome! :)

  • Thanks for posting the video. I got the Passengers album in 1982 and has loved it ever since. You can imagine how I feel when I watch this clip. Thanks a million!

  • Hello everyone!

Thank you for posting this wonderful video

I am trying to locate some cd's from Manfred Schoff Quintet,....anyone has any tips..cannot find them

    marie x

  • Hi Marie,

Here's your answer, straight from Steve Lake at ECM:

Manfred Schoof Quintet "Resonance" Recordings 1976-79 (ECM 2093/4) are due this fall! This will consist of Manfred Schoof's personal compilation of his favorite music from his ECM and JAPO albums, with new track order and dramaturgical flow...

  • I saw them last night at the Keswick in PA -- I had first row center seating! Freakin' awesome concert!!! Bought the CD for the ride home and been listening to nothing else since. BTW That country player is Hank Garland, who's real name was Walter L Garland, so Gary named the tune Walter L. Hank Garland was a studio player who recorded several jazz records and jammed many times with Charlie Parker at Birdland in NYC. He just passed in 2004. Gary worked in Nashville early on in his career.

  • Just saw the group at Berklee in Boston. Amazing. I think they were on their game as they knew all the students would be listening with extra care. Outstanding performances by all.

  • saw them an hour ago in red bank n.j. they opened with this number. gary burton and steve swallow were incredible. the band did a number that gary said he wrote when he was 17 as a tribute to some old country star. the treatment was great. it sounded like some sort of absract country band.

  • I like Pat's hairdo. He must get it done at the same place as the old lady next door.

I gona see this quartet in 3 days and I have front row tix. I'm psyched.

  • @Heavengrey Metheny has his hair like that to block his peripheral vision so he can concentrate on his playing.

  • @pete5668 PERFECT ANSWER INDEED , SIR

  • Old man Swallow keepin it spaced and simple B)

  • i wish they call up chick corea and tour :p.

where does antonio sanchez com from musically? he's really good.

  • antomio was born and raised in Mexico and studied at the national conservatory there...very prestigious music school...he then went to berkley...blew everyone away...caught ear of Metheny...and the rest as they say is history. i hear a lot of Jack in his playing...the guy is a monster.

  • yeah he is. I discovered him only recently and I have been blown away every time I see a video of him play. I'll be seeing this trio in about a month from now. VERY excited.

  • he also played some years before with the well known pianist danilo perez Louis

  • c'ero anch'io.......bellissimo!!!!

  • Bello!!! C'ero!!! :)

  • Great quality video. I saw him in Rotterdam at the North Sea Jazz Festival in July 2008. Loved every second of his performance!

  • Yeah " SEA JOURNEY" by Chick Corea

  • c'ero anke io e sn stato da dioooo

  • This is cool, but I LOVE PMG which has everything....percussion, piano, keyboards, drums, horns, bass, vocals and all of Pat's amazing guitar sounds.

  • reminds me of "set the controls for the heart of the sun" by Pink Floyd lol

  • beautiful, how much better is sanchez gonna get. hes already incredible.

  • I'll be at M in the stalls downstairs.

If you check again, its pretty much full.

Also on 1st July, Lee Ritenour is playing at Jazz Cafe / Camden.

    Hope you enjoy too!

  • oh I got my tickets as well!

  • Thanks for posting. Can't wait to see them on the 28th in Poole! Anyone also going to be there?

  • @57anthony and @757LM

unfortunately couldn't make it for Darmstadt-so there's no chance for me this year to listen to him... still have to keep last years' munich tollhaus festival memories and wait for better times (only 2 concerts in germany this year) ENJOY every minute of your concerts on 27th and 28th!

  • I love Metheny's new sound! I got to see his trio in the winter. No more muted or buried tone- it's bright and refined.

  • Totally agree about Pat's sound - I much prefer it with the added edge. Pity I can't get to London to see them. I believe there's a live album in the works.

  • straordinario!! ho visto il concerto di Roma con la stessa formazione... assolutamente straordinario!! LE STELLE DEL JAZZ NON SI SPENGONO MAI!!

    by a Metheny's fun

  • i'm going to see them in london july 27th!!! wow!!!

  • c'ero.

    plettro ufficiale intascato.

grande saluto a CLAUDIA dal messico.
