it's amazing that in so short time technology gets better and better, the human race is so smart that we took over the world and we are so dumb that we can't keep a balance on things and with all the things that r going on we, the human race are going to end
Thanks for the comment, but really... Pointless? Listen to the voice over again. If you are a gamer, then surely the ideas make some sense. It makes sense to many non-gamers and museum curators, so anyone who plays should be able to understand the ideas.
ok dude. i'm a hardcore gamer and i think this is a fucking stupid viedeo. your saying" the player is beong controled while evetybody else is part of the program" we know that, duh! come on dude. it really is stupid.
No no dude there is a difference. An NPC is a non player character which cannot be controlled. A bot is a computer controlled character IN PLACE of a normally controllable character for convenience. An NPC can never be controlled however a BOT is a controllable character which is currently under AI control. It has a bigger signifigance in the realm of multiplayer.
yeah, but i heard that crap about video gameinfluence, i play Black, but i dont go around with an AK trying to "stop government control" i just personally thought it was a bit weird
Thanks for the comment, but I think you misunderstand the point of this video. It is not about the political discussion of how video games influence people or incite violence. It's about how we as players see ourselves within games - how our ideas about identity can be influenced by creating in-game identities that reflect the player's true nature, and not just the personality that the game developer's presume.
I noticed that somebody mis-spelled a Family name in their review of this clip....it's TATTAGLIA..and they aren't even in the clip....the gangsters froma rival Family are from the STRACCI Family.
dude you also should have explained how the f*cking bad ass fighting/shooting works i mean there were 3 barzini/tagalia (i couldn't see it so well) standing in f*cking front of you you must WACK EM!
jesus fucking christ. here we go with the bullshit comments trying to be philosophical and practically question the meaning of life itself. there was nothing wrong with what was said in the video or with the video overall. i agree, Vinewhip303 ..... bottom line, it's just a game.
StupidShit, Thanks for the comment. It IS just a game, but as an artist I use all kinds of materials and ideas for my conceptual self portraits - Games, TV, sculptures, etc... There is a big shift occuring where people are able to appreciate conceptual art made with mass media. If you are in the Bay Area, come to my reception at the San Jose Museum of Art on June 7, 6-9pm where I will be displaying 3 of these game-based artworks.
Im in no way an idiot, and i see what your trying to do, but you have to ask yourself this sole question. Does this game actually have any relevence to human nature at all or is it made by companys to amuse people? Personally, I think that too many people try to find subtext or anything in places that have none at all.
Thanks for the comment, but I disagree regarding the lack of subtext or relavance in games. The world of critical theory has plenty to say regarding cyberspace/games as a venue for meaningful expression and art. By the same arguement you put forth, is ANY media (TV, movies, novels, theater) worth thinking about? Whether you agree or not, the ideas are out there, and many find them relevant.
In real life, blisters. Blisters with secondary blisters. Pockets of fluid become infected. Infection, unchecked, leads to muscle, ligament and bone damage. Constant pain, inability to stand touch, socks, sandals or shoes. Inability to stand at all. Pain even in a wheelchair, searing agony standing to enter the chair or bed. Gangrene. Amputation. Then, phantom pain of nerves long dead. Pain untreatable by painkiller or therapy. Only sleep, and dreams of parkour. Awake, only rage.
just imagine a game where we could do anything we wanted. get any job you want, buy houses, get married and have kids. oh wait, you can do all those things in real life. The more life like games become, the more people will throw their lives away by dedicating their own real life to that of their character.
Interesting take on games. But I can't help but wonder if the differences between real and virtual life will lose their distictions as we rely more on avatars, Mii's and icons to interact with each other. After all, we (you and I) have already entered into virtuality with this online exchange of ideas. Is earning $ as an architect in real life so different from earning it in Second Life? Hopefully my artwork poses the question.
I see your point, in that I know you only as h2oboy, and that is all you are to me. But can we ever allow our lives to ever become fully integrated into a system such as this, or will our subconscious human nature prevent us from reaching a certain stage.
Good question, and one I hoped to inspire with this piece. Is the denial of the game's violent premise enough to elevate the action to the realm of performance? Does a performance require a human audience? What constitutes an audience? Can in-game AI be the audience? They respond in realtime to my actions - or in this case, lack of actions - in much the same way a human audience would. I guess I'm more interested in the question than the answer.
Are you obsessed with this game or are your trying to start a discussion about the human condition, if you are then this topic is never ending, I like your idea, if it is the idea that I have obtained by reading your reply.
My current art explores identity in the info-based cultural landscape and examines the role of the self in this new terrain. We are learning to move outside the body and inhabit a world of VR, video games, DIY media, and online communities where we are often identified only by our screen name, icon or avatar. We're increasingly mediated by these technological filters, and beginning to face unique challenges in determining the boundries of the self within this context.
